My 10 month old likes high stimulus, so she seems to get bored with her toys quickly and doesn't think much of toys that don't DO something. This piano has a lot going on and so far it's been enough to keep her entertained better than any other toy.

Primarily I like its design. The 'composer' function doesn't just play one song quickly, repeatedly and loudly as most piano toys with some kind of 'demo' function do. When the baby hits a key, it plays one phrase. The next time a key is pressed gets another musical phrase. It's pleasant to listen to, you aren't left with one short tune running through your head and there's seven different melodies. In short, it seems like someone put some thought into what would make a piano toy fun and interesting to play with. It doesn't feel like it's been dumbed down on the assumption that parents don't care and babies don't know the difference.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great toy with one design flaw August 13, 2010
This is a fun little toy that my 6-month old son enjoys playing with. As another reviewer mentioned, one of the great things about this piano is how varied the melodies are. Not only does it play classical pieces but your child can compose his/her own music as well, which means mom and dad don't have to hear the same melody over and over and over... big plus!

The one down-side is that the speaker is on the bottom of the toy, which means that if your child doesn't hold the piano on his/her lap while playing with it the sounds is very muffled. My son still likes to play with it - muffled sounds and all - but I can't help marveling that the designers put the speaker in such an unfavorable location. Einstein would blush to know that such an obvious design flaw was incorporated into a product with his name on it!

5.0 out of 5 stars My 7 month old son loves this piano!! October 31, 2008
By S.R.S
This is a great interactive toy for babies who love music.....Especially when they are learning to sit up on their own and good for tummy time too. It lights up and has 3 different play modes, sounds, and languages. It's not too loud, holds thier attention span, teaches them to push the buttons to get it to play, and is small so it can go to Grandma's for a weekend. My son loves the little spinner with the beads too. One thing you should know is, if your child is strong or plays rough and is active as mine,(he is only 7 months old and a big boy!) the piano is hard plastic with some weight to it and well, you get the idea!

3.0 out of 5 stars Does the job but could be better January 30, 2010

I bought this toy for my 4 month old son, who is still in the "supported sitter" stage and therefore loves to sit in his stroller. He still doesn't reach the tray so I use toys that fit between him and the tray, this toy is the perfect size for that (he also has the vTech steering wheel, and vTech Baby's Laptop for this purpose and they are great if you are looking for the same size of toys#.

After seeing my son play with the piano a few times this is what I have to say:

PROS:

1- As with most Baby Einstein toys and videos, classical music is the main feature and I like that.

2- Different settings provide a wide range of sounds and therefore I don't think this toy will drive me crazy too soon.

3- Different languages set ups helps me expose my son to several languages which is great and I big factor in my decision when I buy a toy #we live in a bilingual home as it is, and the more languages the better as far as I know#

4- Perfect size for my son to play with it in his stroller #as I mentioned before that was my main goal#

CONS

1- The speaker is on the bottom of the toy. When playing with it in his stroller this is not too big of a problem #since it's on his lap -an irregular surface- but when we lay the toy on his "tummy time" blanket it's really hard to hear the sounds.

2- When you have it in the "number" set up and you press a key, it plays music, then if you press it the second time it says the number. I know that the musical aspect of this toy is the main feature, but in my opinion it'd be better for "cause-and-effect" purposes if the toy would always say the number (and maybe after that play some music) when you press the keys while in the "numbers" set up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely a best buy! August 16, 2009

I bought this because I had no other real toys for my 5 mos. old. He loved kicking the keys at first, now it has helped him sit up so he can use his hands. I did have to put the toy up onto the tray of his little seat so it would be at hand level, but once he is sitting up better, this may not be the case. I would definitely recommend this toy if you are wondering what to buy your "transitional" baby who is between 4 and 6 mos. old and not quite sitting up unsupported yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than I could have imagined. July 14, 2010

I bought this piano along with some other toys for my 5 month old twins. It looked like fun so I got it not realizing that it also plays the numbers in English, French and Spanish. It also plays several classical compositions and can change from piano to xylophone, etc. I was so intrigued by it I showed it to my husband and we played with it for like 30 minutes before we actually gave it to the twins. I do find that the number 2 button sticks sometimes but it wasn't enough of a problem to make me take away a star. Your kids will love this toy.

The only reason I am giving it 4 stars is because it's not that loud and some of the levers aren't as kid-friendly (i.e. it's hard to tell which selection they made). Read more
