Great alternative to standard baby books!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Baby Einstein: Van Gogh's World of Color (Board book)
As a die-hard Van Gogh fan, I was thrilled when I found this book. I was concerned that my 6-month old wouldn't be interested, but she loved it! The tabs make it easy for her to turn the pages herself, and the bright colors attract her attention. Now, at 11 months, she focuses enough that I can read the colors to her and point out objects in the pictures. It is a wonderful alternative to standard, cartoony baby books. I wish they made similar books for other famous artists! (How about Picasso? Monet? Georgia O'Keefe?)Unlike the reviewers who complained that the book is just like the video, I have focused on books rather than television. My daughter loves this book, and I'm sure she will someday be thrilled the first time she is able to recognize a painting as Van Gogh.

Van Gogh's World of Color,

My daughter loved looking at the pictures in this book, and asked for it every night for weeks. At one, the text was too advanced for her, but we would talk about the pictures--object names, colors, and other things she could relate to. I think when she's a little older, she'll still enjoy the pictures, but will also be able to appreciate the text. From my perspective, a "baby book" that lasts beyond babyhood is pretty rare. Her Baby Einstein books are among the few of her "baby board" books that we are keeping so she can enjoy them again when she's older.

Baby Einsteins Van Gogh,

While this book may appear to be only for the little tykes don't let it fool you. Children as old as 40 have been known to read and like this book. What a great way to introduce Van Gogh in a simple, non-threatening way. Baby Einstein is a genius!

Very cultural but not attractive enough for my 2 yr old...colors are kind of dull. Baby Einstein has much better books than this one.

This book is just pictures of all the art that your child may have seen in the baby van goh video. I was not impressed as it does not hold my childs intrest. It shows pictures and then has captions like can you find all the yellow things. The aim of this book is to teach colors. I don't think this book does a very good job of it. Personally I found this unimaginativce and felt the baby einstein company just reguritated information to us that we already had seen and owned from them. If you don't have the video you may like this. If you have the video then don't buy it there is just no reason.

Hate it,

This book was very disappointing. The colours they speak of are not clear in the pictures. The page talks of one colour, but the Van Gogh painting's colours are sometimes so obscure that my 2.5 year old keeps asking me "where is X colour"?

great way to introduce art!,

My kids love the Van Goat character from the Baby Van Gogh video, and were really happy to see him appear in this book. The book shows art by Van Gogh with suggestions of ideas on how to talk about the art with your baby, and is a good way to teach color. We love it! Totally unique!

A book to last way past toddlerhood,

My son is almost 32 months, and knows all his colors and letters. This book is a terrific "next step" for him. It encourages thought by asking questions, for example, "What do you think the girl in this picture is thinking?" So it's way beyond simple ABCs and colors. With the book leading the way, I am encouraged to make up some of my own thought provoking questions for my son.

Bought this and a few other Baby Einstein books and DVDs for my little niece. My sister can't believe how quickly she learned from these. Now she is well ahead of the other kids in her age group.

I love Van Gogh's paintings. This book is such a great way to introduce children (and their parents) to great art!!! I enjoyed reading it myself, before I gave as a new baby gift for my niece's little girl. Her older children have liked reading to book to their new sister.
