About the Author

Julie Aigner-Clark founded The Baby Einstein Company in 1997. Her goal was to provide fun, interactive ways to expose her own babies to the arts and humanities, subjects that were important to her as a former English teacher. Julie's first two videos, Baby Einstein and Baby Mozart, were filmed in her basement using borrowed equipment and edited on a home computer. Five years, ten videos and 30 children's books later, Julie sold Baby Einstein to The Walt Disney Company. In 2001, the year of acquisition, the company's sales exceeded $20 million and Baby Einstein-branded products could be found at specialty and mass retailers nationwide. Baby Einstein videos received accolades for giving infants and toddlers a way to experience joy and laughter through classical music, poetry, nature and art. As reported in The New York Times on October 28, 2003, 32 percent of all new babies born in the United States own Baby Einstein videos. Prior to the sale to Disney, Julie and the story of Baby Einstein were covered extensively by the national media, including appearances by Julie on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Entertainment Tonight, Live! With Regis and Kelly, The View and The John Walsh Show , and feature articles in USA Today, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, Time Magazine, People Magazine, Redbook, Elle, Entrepreneur, Parenting Magazine, Child Magazine, Baby Talk and Working Mother. Julie also is the recipient of Ernst & Young's "Entrepreneur of the Year Award," as well as Working Mother's "Entrepreneur of the Year Award" in three categories - Most Philanthropic Company, Most Innovative Business and Best Small Company. In 2003, she received The Distinguished Alumni Award from The College of Arts and Letters of Michigan State University. In the citation, she was credited with starting a billion-dollar media industry centered on stimulating the minds of infants and toddlers. Julie's new venture is a return to familiar territory - creating and incubating new brands. Aigner Clark Creative combines her love of the creative process with her commitment to charitable-giving.

1.0 out of 5 stars Only if you use in conjunction with the videos, September 3, 2003
This review is from: Baby Einstein: Language Discovery Cards (Baby Einstein (Special Formats)) (Cards)
I bought this cards thinking that they had true photographs of the actual objects. Instead, the animals are the stuffed creations from the videos and not photos of real animals at all. I thought this was very disappointing, especially since I loved the concept of the different languages on the cards. I think this set is only useful when used with the videos.

1.0 out of 5 stars Serious Warning, July 17, 2008
This review is from: Baby Einstein: Language Discovery Cards (Baby Einstein (Special Formats)) (Cards)
As a homeschooling mom (myself raised by teachers) I was very disturbed by the BE Language Discovery Cards I bought for my 1 yr. old. But first I'll mention the positives: the cards have large letters and colorful pictures. On the back are teaching tips, and the word from the front of the card is written in 6 other languages with pronunciation provided. I almost gave 2 stars just for this aspect. Now for the bad: I was disgusted that many of the pictures that are supposed to represent words are stuffed animals, abstract toys, and other confusing items that just don't represent the word well. Examples: the word CAT has a picture of a shiny, slick plastic cat figurine while the tip on the back says, "cats have soft fur". The word STAR has a picture of something like a teething toy with round corners - it barely looks like a star. The word BEAR is represented by a ceramic statuette of a bear wearing a suit and playing a violin. The teaching tips say, "This bear is playing a violin" and also, "Bears live in the woods". Hmmm... since they think I need tips on teaching my baby, it would help if they would explain how bears who live in the woods can obtain suits and violin lessons. Don't plan to raise a scholar on these cards unless you plan to do a lot of un-teaching

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Baby Einstein item I've bought!!!, April 13, 2003
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Baby Einstein: Language Discovery Cards (Baby Einstein (Special Formats)) (Cards)
My son and I absolutely love these cards. It's very educational and my son spoke his first word as soon as I pointed to one card. The quality is great; each card is laminated to last you many years. All the items in the cards are found in other Baby Einstein videos/dvds. I especially love the teaching aides and words in various languages on the back of the cards to help parents use the cards effectively. I found that it's not only educational for the child but for the parent as well.
