5.0 out of 5 stars Best Baby Einstein item I've bought!!!
My son and I absolutely love these cards. It's very educational and my son spoke his first word as soon as I pointed to one card. The quality is great; each card is laminated to last you many years. All the items in the cards are found in other Baby Einstein videos/dvds. I especially love the teaching aides and words in various languages on the back of the cards to help...

1.0 out of 5 stars Only if you use in conjunction with the videos
I bought this cards thinking that they had true photographs of the actual objects. Instead, the animals are the stuffed creations from the videos and not photos of real animals at all. I thought this was very disappointing, especially since I loved the concept of the different languages on the cards. I think this set is only useful when used with the videos.

1.0 out of 5 stars Serious Warning, July 17, 2008
This review is from: Baby Einstein: Language Discovery Cards (Baby Einstein (Special Formats)) (Cards)
As a homeschooling mom (myself raised by teachers) I was very disturbed by the BE Language Discovery Cards I bought for my 1 yr. old. But first I'll mention the positives: the cards have large letters and colorful pictures. On the back are teaching tips, and the word from the front of the card is written in 6 other languages with pronunciation provided. I almost gave 2 stars just for this aspect. Now for the bad: I was disgusted that many of the pictures that are supposed to represent words are stuffed animals, abstract toys, and other confusing items that just don't represent the word well. Examples: the word CAT has a picture of a shiny, slick plastic cat figurine while the tip on the back says, "cats have soft fur". The word STAR has a picture of something like a teething toy with round corners - it barely looks like a star. The word BEAR is represented by a ceramic statuette of a bear wearing a suit and playing a violin. The teaching tips say, "This bear is playing a violin" and also, "Bears live in the woods". Hmmm... since they think I need tips on teaching my baby, it would help if they would explain how bears who live in the woods can obtain suits and violin lessons. Don't plan to raise a scholar on these cards unless you plan to do a lot of un-teaching

All the items in the cards are found in other Baby Einstein videos/dvds. I found that it's not only educational for the child but for the parent as well.

2.0 out of 5 stars Warped, August 22, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Baby Einstein: Language Discovery Cards (Baby Einstein (Special Formats)) (Cards)
The concept for these cards is great, but I do not recommend you buy them. The pictures of the animals are not of animals at all, but of stuffed toys that barely even resemble the animals "depicted." Children would be confused by, for example, a frog that barely even resembles a real frog. I pulled all of the "warped" cards and have used the remaining ones with my daughter.

I definitely agree with what another reviewer wrote that these are just a plug for the videos. I was on a search for flashcards and these were the only ones available at toys r us. They are totally a plug for the baby einstein dvds. A lot of the pictures and suggestions for parents arent so great. The Early Learning Fun Flash Cards are WAY better and a much better value. I wouldnt waste my time or money on any of the baby einstein flashcards!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Learning Tool..., January 9, 2006

I bought these cards a few months ago for my now 18 month old daughter. She loves these cards along with the other ones I bought her. She loves to look at the pictures and point to the things she knows. The pictures on the cards aren't as of the same quality as the Nature or Animal ones because they're not an actual picture; the cat on the card is a pretend cat as opposed to a real cat, but for a little kid I don't really think it's that big of a thing. What I find really cool about them is on the back they give you different pronuciations of the word in many different languages. I find these to be a great learning tool.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as other cards in the series, February 13, 2008

These cards display stuffed animals instead of real animals. They are usually the same animals featured in the different videos. Some of the animals aren't recognizable to a young child, so they aren't very useful. There are some useful cards, like the pictures of some fruits and vegetables. However, these cards are overall very disappointing. Instead of real instruments, they feature play horns that, again, are likely featured in the videos. The Animal Discovery and Nature Discovery Cards are much much better.

5.0 out of 5 stars these cards are a perfect learning tool for toddlers, February 18, 2007
This review is from: Baby Einstein: Language Discovery Cards (Baby Einstein (Special Formats)) (Cards)
I got these cards because my little girl is still not talking. On the first day I recieved these, her eyes lit up when she saw the bright pictures and she really enjoyed them. I have trouble getting her attention and these cards worked instantly. I think that these cards are a great teaching tool for parents of toddlers. She is well on her way. I would highly recommend these. =)

4.0 out of 5 stars Baby Einstein Language Discovery Cards, August 28, 2005
This review is from: Baby Einstein: Language Discovery Cards (Baby Einstein (Special Formats)) (Cards)
I bought these cards when my toddler was about 19 months old and at first the images on the cards concerned me since (as the other reviews state) some of the images are of toys not actual objects or animals. But with regular exposure and use, my little one breezes right through these cards and can tell you what the cards depict. The cards are well made and hold up great to regular use. Also, they include about three blank cards so that you may personalize or create your own flash cards. I put a photo of my son's dog and pictures of relative who live out of town on the set of cards that I have. Baby Einstein gives you a suggestion sheet with these cards that help you with ideas on how to use them....also each card has examples of how to say each item in several different languages.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy these!!! Buy "My First Touch & Feel Picture Cards: First Words" by DK publishing instead!!!, January 6, 2008
This review is from: Baby Einstein: Language Discovery Cards (Baby Einstein (Special Formats)) (Cards)
As many other reviewers mention, the images on these cards are terrible! For example, the image of what is supposed to be a bear--- is actually a plastic bear figurine playing a violin!!! Is that what we want to teach our young children??? A bear is natural, big, living creature....and I have never seen one play a violin! The same goes for the image of the duck, frog, fish, etc... they are all images of ugly plastic toys! These cards are poorly done.
