Rhythmic text, fun pictures and lots of touchy-feelies!,
By Scrapbookin' Mama (North Carolina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Baby Einstein: Baby MacDonald on the Farm: Giant Touch and Feel Fun! (Board book)
My son is 16 months old and he LOVES this book! He chose it in the store several months ago (actually, he grabbed the book and began to eat the horse's hair...needless to say, we didn't have much choice about buying it!) and it has been his favorite book ever since. He pulls this book from his basket almost daily and loves to touch the "feelies." The rhythmic bounce of the text and repetition of the animal names aid in animal recognition and help develop verbal and auditory skills. The text also includes a plethera of wondefully descriptive phrases for vocabulary enrichment. Kids are never too young to be exposed to content-rich language! My son has learned several animal sounds because of this book!!! When he is not in the mood to listen to the text (which is a touch lengthy for a one year old), we sing Old MacDonald's Farm and use each page as the basis for the song. I am an Early Childhood educator and I highly believe in the Baby Einstein products!

We bought this one because our 9-month-old just loves her Baby Einstein Old MacDonald DVD and the other Baby Einstein giant touch-and-feel book, "Violet's House." While "Violet's House" has relevant and many touch and feelies on each page, this one only has one per page and the feelies aren't anywhere near the actual feel of the animal. (i.e. the pig feely is plastic bristles.) The chicken feely is feathers, although relevant to the animal, they do come off easily.
We were so impressed by "Violet's House" and the DVD that we expected a little more quality. It is also very wordy for each page instead of more simple reading, which should be targeted for this age group.

My baby loves this book!,

I strongly believe in "Touch and Feel" books to let babies explore different textures. This book is great for that - all the animals have very realistic fur, skin, etc. and my daughter will literally reach for this book if she sees it (she's only 5 months old). The text is cute - they use alliteration and it is poetic. I strongly recommend!
Baby Einstein - please create more Touch and Feel Books!

I bought this becasue we all love Violet's House, and I thought this might be similar. Our 1 yr old son LOVES touch and feel books. It does have great pictures and colors, and our son loves the size of the book (nice and big). He likes some of the textures, though most are a bit odd, and don't always feel like what they represent. My biggest gripe is the text. It doesn't talk about the pictures, like in Violet's House where every feely item is described in the text so we can direct his attention to different parts of the page as we read. This just rambles on with a lot of adjectives, and I don't think they mean anything to a child because they're not really in any sort of context that indicates their meaning. So rather than ramble on with a bunch of meaningless words, I tend to sing Old MacDonald as another reviewer suggested. I wanted to like this book, but it is a disappointment. If you don't already have it, I highly recommend Violet's House instead. Hope this helps.

My 2-year old received this book as a Christmas gift, and he LOVES it. I like the fact that it not only has cartoon-ish pictures of animals, but realistic ones as well. My child is experiencing a developmental delay, and I worry that he gets confused with what a real animal looks like, versus the animated versions of them that he usually sees. The textures are also very good, and my son enjoys feeling the rough, soft, and furry animals.

Great Book To Learn Animals,

I got this book for my daughter from our library, and she loves it so much I may need to buy it. The touch and feel are so unique. She especially loves the horse's main and the cow's fur. I love how each line of the text repeats the animals' names. This is one of her favorite books to pick up and "read" on her own. The first time we heard her say "cow" we looked and she had the book on her lap open to the cow page. The only downer is that the chicken's feathers can be pulled out.

What a wonderful touch and feel book. It is not the same texture over and over again! My son loves the sticky mud and the pig skin the most. We have purchased Violet's House as well with many more textures. It takes us a long time to read the book as my son wants to stop on every page and play with each texture. Thank you once again Baby Einstein!

Excellent farm animal book,
This review is from: Baby Einstein: Baby MacDonald on the Farm: Giant Touch and Feel Fun! (Board book)
We have this book for our 20-month-old daughter, who loves anything with a farm theme. I have purchased all the Baby Einstein things I can find with a farm theme, and this is the best. She loves to feel the textures, especially the sheep, her favorite. The sheep is at the very end and is the fluffiest animal in the book, which is a treat for babies to pet.
These products are all wonderful, but this particular book, because of its large size, is perfect. I also love the poems in the book...the text really places an importance on the role animals play in our lives.

Best book so far!,

I ordered this book for my 10 month old son thinking he would like the "touch-and-feel" idea. Well, was I right (not quite but close to the first time thats happened). He absolutely loves "reading" this book to himself or anyone who'll listen. He'll sit and turn the pages, "touch-and-feel" the different textures and "talk" to all of the animals. This book is so cute and entertaining. I'm on the lookout for more just like it.
