Great Picture Book,
By
This review is from: Baby Einstein: Neighborhood Animals (Board book)
This book has wonderful photograph-quality pictures of various animals; dog, cat, bird, rabbit, duck, mouse, ladybug and frog. My 1 year old LOVES to look the pictures. It also has questions with every picture appropriate for each animal that initiate interaction for toddlers and would spark connections on the next level of development. It is also a sturdy board book which is the perfect size for small hands to manipulate on their own. A must-have for your beginning library!

This book is marketed to newborns and up. It is a great book for the very young child. Each page has a true photo of a different animal and three facts about the animal. The animals are: dog, cat, bird, rabbit, mouse, ladybug, duck, and frog.

Review from a mommy of a 2 yr old and a 9 month old,

My two year old has grown to like the book. She loves the pictures. I try reading the book verbatim, but she looses interest so I just read one or two sentences. It is not her favorite, she never picks it up, to have it read to her, but when I select it she does not object. The pictures are not bright enough for my 9 mnth old. He has no interest. I would purchse this book for an older two year old who is ready for real pictures and can appreciate the real colored scenery.

Great for Little Ones,

Another super book with beautiful photos that really capture a child's attention. My daughter is still too small to want to hear the text from each page, but we look at the pictures and I tell her what animal it is. As she begins to sit longer, we'll read the text about the animal and eventually discuss the questions on each page.

Writing is boring for kids, pictures are great,

My 2 year old enjoys the pictures in this book, but the "story" is poorly written and does nothing to capture the attention of a toddler. I usually just read the first 2 lines on each page and then make up something else -- like "What sound does a dog make?" Or "What color is the ladybug?". My son has definite favorite books, and this is not one of them.

Good book for a range of ages,

I'm not the biggest baby einstein fan overall, but I think this book is actually quite good. I like there are real pictures of animals, in nice full color. There are also animations, but they are small, and secondary. What makes the book especially nice is that there are several ways to read it. Babies can just look at the photos.. or you can add the name of the animal which is large on each facing page. Then there is one slightly smaller font sentence, so when the child is a bit older you can read the name and that one sentence. Then there are a couple easy facts, so when they have a longer attention span, they can listen to the whole page, plus learn some things. Finally, the words are mostly easy enough to be an early reader when the child is ready for that. We've definitely gotten our money's worth out of this one, and I love watching my 5 year old now read it to her one year old sister.

Great addition to our collection,

Its very refreshing to see photos of animals. To us it has been a grow with me book. My Son used to just look at the pics when he was 7-8 months, then started asking for names and now wants me to read about the animals!

This is a great book for babies and toddlers. My fifteen month old daughter has loved it since she was six months old and it is still her favorite. It really holds her attention and she loves it when I tell her the name of the animal and then she gets all excited and tries to say the words, she can now say dog and cat. She has me read it a hundred times in a row, it really includes great bright and clear pictures of animals in the real world.

Library Pick,

This review is from: Baby Einstein: Neighborhood Animals (Board book)
I took my 10 month old daughter to the library for the first time. She rummaged through the board books and looked over several. I attempted to read many of them, but there were only 2 that held her interest. Neighborhood Animals was one of them. She wanted me to read it over and over again. There are photo illustrations of real animals that she absolutely loved. On the opposite page is text which was a bit much for her age, but I only read one sentence per page and she was happy with that. The next I read it I'd choose a different sentence. Along with the text is a drawn illustration of the animal at the bottom of the page. She seemed very interested in it also. Great for any baby or toddler who loves animals!
By the way, for those interested...the other book was Black and White by Parr.

A favorite of ours,

This book was one of my daughter's first favorite books. Like other reviewers have said, the words leave a lot to be desired, but for the attention span of a baby/young toddler, they just want to look at the pictures anyway. This book was what helped her get a grasp on some of the different animals. She loves to point at the dog and sign "dog", point at the cat and sign "cat"... and then there's duck, bird, ladybug, frog, too. It helped her learn the difference between these different animals, and helped me teach her the signs for them. Some of the board books aren't good for teaching baby signs (pages are too complicated, pictures aren't very clear), but this one was a huge favorite when she was figuring them out and learning what they were. She is 17 months old and is starting to be more interested in books with more complicated pictures and more going on on the pages. So this one isn't a favorite as much anymore, but for a younger child, I consider it a must-have. (Also check out the Neighborhood Animals Baby Dolittle video... it's a great companion for the book, and the only one that held her attention at all for quite awhile!) |
