We got this for our kid when he was about two or three months old and have used it fairly steadily since (he's just over seven months now). In general terms, it does a pretty good job of soothing him and, after countless kicks of varying magnitude, it seems to be holding up well. It's hardly a perfect product, however, and some things would likely have me reconsidering whether I'd buy it again.

Good stuff:

* Music is tolerable, though quickly redundant (it didn't take my wife or me long to be able to hum along with the playlist of classical snippets).
* The 'underwater' lighting effect is pretty cool.
* Wind-down of light and sounds is gentle and well done.
* Star button is easy for baby to smack to turn on the fun.
* Crib light function is helpful.

OK stuff:

* The remote has its own agenda and doesn't always work. When it does, it's a good thing to have. When it doesn't, it's frustrating. Partly due to what seems to be a sort of 'standby' mode (more on that below).
* Volume difference between the high and low settings on music seems more pronounced than on ocean noise.
* Speaking of which, music on loud can be pretty loud. Good if you're trying to get a screaming baby's attention, but not so great for other applications.
* The sea creatures' movements are really limited, like watching a few seconds' footage of lumbering animals on an endless loop. I find it boring, but I've had nearly forty years worth of life experience to compare it to, so maybe I'm a harsher critic than my often-engrossed kid is. Once he's seen "The Wire" and "Arrested Development," I'm sure this will hold less interest for him.

I've heard great things about this aquarium and I'm excited to give it a try. My biggest complaint so far is that it doesn't fit onto the railing of our crib. Our crib is a pretty standard size (made by Pali) so I'm very frustrated and disappointed to see that it doesn't fit. We still want to give it a try as our baby really seems to like it so we're going to find a way to make it work. My sister- and brother-in-law had the same problem with it and their crib. Another few inches of strap and this would fit perfectly. It's a HUGE oversight on the part of Baby Einstein!

I never review things, but thought that I should for this item. The movement and music are great, but the latch that attaches it to the crib was defective on ours. Just the weight of us pushing the button to turn it on caused the latch to fail and the whole thing fell into the crib. Thank goodness it didn't hit the baby, but we stopped using it immediately.

My husband and I were discussing mobiles 3 months after our son was born. A crib mobile was one item we initially didn't think we wanted/needed but we decided after a while to look for one. The Baby Einstein Sea Dreams Soother came up as the #1 Best Seller in our Amazon search so although it wasn't a traditional mobile, we decided to give it a try. It arrived today and even when we took it out of the box and played with it I was skeptical. I thought it would be way too stimulating to actually put our baby to sleep. I hooked it up to the baby's crib and decided to test it out tonight. (I had to attach it where baby's feet are facing - our front and back rails are sleigh and the mobile's adjustable attachment do-dad doesn't fit there.) I can't believe it - but this thing works. It has a 25-minute cycle that starts out vibrant and loud and dims and softens as time goes on, eventually turning off at the 25-minute mark. When we're preparing our son for bedtime, he has a habit of falling asleep in our arms and then waking up immediately when we lay him in his crib. Sometimes this is a pattern that repeats itself 3 or 4 times before he finally stays asleep. Tonight, he did the same thing - woke up as I laid him down. But this time, when his eyes were open and looking at me, I turned the new crib gadget on and quietly watched him for a few minutes. He was mesmerized in the dark by the new toy but wasn't kicking his feet or getting as excited as I thought he would. He stayed very calm. I then turned the baby monitor on once I was outside the door and watched him on the monitor for the entire 25 minutes. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes I wouldn't have believe it, but this thing actually lulled him to sleep. That was over 4 hours ago. So far I'm a big fan and would suggest any parent buy this who experiences the same issues we do with putting our baby to bed in his crib.

We are temporarily using a pack and play in our room as our little one's bed; therefore, I had to do a lot of shopping around for a mobile or alternate "crib entertainment" since most mobiles do not attach to pack and plays. I am so happy I bought this soother! After a particularly difficult, sleepless night I stopped looking and decided to just purchase this one hoping it would do at least half of what is described. The first night we used it she was out like a light :) I love the gradual quieting of the music and dimming of the light. I have stood and watched her eyes droop at the exact moment the music softens. Granted, for an adult, the songs do get a little old hearing them over and over again, but if they are putting her to sleep I don't care if they play the ABC's for 30 minutes. My daughter is only 2 months old and she enjoys staring at the lamps in the living room, but really the aquarium characters are very cute and they keep her attention. She will lay in her crib and watch the soother during the day when she's active and also allow it to lull her to sleep before the 30 minute timer is up. I only wish I would have bought this thing a week or two earlier and saved myself some tearful nights :)
