Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreS?Two board books that preschoolers will love, particularly when snuggled in the lap of a loved one. Each page is filled with a color photo of a tot responding in some way to the photographer. Toothy grins and yawns, bright eyes, pouts, and tears deliver reinforcement for the spare text that echoes what all parents (and photographers) say and play to get that picture-perfect response; e.g., "Look at the birdie" and "Peek-a-boo! I love you." Toddlers love looking at other children and these titles hold plenty of interest for them.?Susan Garland, Maynard Public Library, MA

4.0 out of 5 stars Who doesn't love a smiling baby? January 25, 2001
Format:Board book
"Smile!", by Roberta Grobel Intrater, is a delightful execution of a simple idea. This short book consists of close-up portraits of 12 babies of various ethnic groups. Along the bottom of the portraits run lines from a simple rhyme: "Look at the birdie / Come on, say cheese / Give me a smile / Will you, please?" etc.

Nothing groundbreaking here in terms of photography or text, just some good wholesome fun. Try incorporating the book into the popular "peek-a-boo" game!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great picture book March 3, 2000
Format:Board book
This is my little sister's favorite book. I bought it for her before she turned two and it is still one of her favorites. She has me read it over and over again. The pictures of the babies are just adorable. I would highly recommend this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute but doesn't hold up September 30, 2005
Format:Board book|Amazon Verified Purchase
My 9 month old loved the faces in this book, but I couldn't let him read it on his own because the cardboard isn't laminated very heavily. As soon as he started chewing on it, it bubbled up and started peeling away. Doesn't hold up as well as a number of other board books we have. Will keep it for when he's older.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not substantial August 14, 2010
Format:Board book|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is not a very good board book. It's not as well constructed or heavy as some we have (big book of animals by Roger Priddy, Peek a Who, My Car, etc.)and there are not very many pictures. I think 10 pictures in the entire book. Not worth the price...

3.0 out of 5 stars Can be improved.... April 27, 2010
Format:Board book|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this book for my little one and although he enjoys looking at the pages I can tell there could be improvements on the quality. The pictures are not as crisp as they can be. There is one photo where a little boy (?) is not smiling. The pages are not as stiff as some other board books that I have. Overall, this is great to add, but this book can use some improvements. I would like to see other board books that have baby faces on them to compare to this one. That's why I rated it 3 stars overall.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great purchase January 17, 2008
By Mary
Format:Board book|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a great, well made, and well thought out book for babies and toddlers. The language used with the photographs doesn't trash the English language trying to make cutesy rhymes. The photographs are fun and well done. Any in this series are great. My child loves them.
