Slapped Together Without Much Thought,
This review is from: Baby Faces (Look Baby Books) (Board book)
I am so glad this we were able to check this book out at the library (along with quite a few other board books by the author) before purchasing any online. My son (16 mos.), like other infants and especially only children who do not have the opportunity to engage in activities with other children often, really enjoys seeing pictures of other babies. However, this book bored him after reading it the first time. He never picked it up again. This book contains some photos of babies haphazardly thrown together without any sort of attempt to teach anything - feelings, body parts, etc. etc., and was put out on the market just as fast as they could. In fact, the whole series of these books by Margaret Miller are not designed with babies in mind at all...she is a photographer/illustrator and not a childcare development researcher, teacher, etc. For example, go out in your yard, take some pictures of your kids and neighbor's kids playing, add an ambiguous, almost meaningless sentence on each page like "We are friends," "Let's have fun" and you have one of Miller's books. I absolutely would not spend any more than .50 cents for Baby Faces at a yard sale-if you happen to run across a copy. The only design advantage of this particular book is that very young infants might enjoy the simple design of each page..but even they need some variation. You could simply show them pictures of babies in Parenting Magazine and it would do the trick. Instead of this book, I recommend "My Body Board Book" (one in a series) and a real hit with infants and toddlers.

teaches things you'll have to un-teach later,

Ugh. You'd do best to pick a different book. Not only is this one a measly 6 pages long, but the expressions don't match the words they've chosen--so you're effectively teaching your child incorrect words for a particular expression (nothing like making them unlearn things later!), and, while the editor clearly was intending to include a "diverse" set of babies, they ended up putting negative words next to both of the two black babies they included! Nothing like showing your little kiddo a darling black girl and saying "yucky!" as you read the text. Puhlease.

My kids so much enjoy looking and laughing at the faces!,
By Lara Laurence (Long Island, New York) - See all my reviews

This book, filled with baby faces with wonderful expressions, has kept my children's attention for much longer than any other 6 page board book I own. They read and re-read the book. That should say it all.

A wonderful beginner book!,

This review is from: Baby Faces (Look Baby Books) (Board book)
This book, in short simple ways, shows a diverse array of children and common emotions. An excellent beginner book, the close-up shots attract the attention of young infants and the simple words (especially when said in an entertaining voice) make for a fun read.

My boys love this book!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Baby Faces (Look Baby Books) (Board book)
I don't know what it is about this book, but both my boys, ages 1 and 4, love it so much! I guess it's probably the big, clear and so expressive faces of the babies. My 4 year old especially loves it that one baby is crying---I think because that's a reality of babies that so many baby books seem to ignore, and it probably helps him accept that his brother does cry sometimes! I'd really recommend this one!

My daughter's favorite car-ride book,
By
This review is from: Baby Faces (Look Baby Books) (Board book)
My daughter LOVES this book for short car rides- half an hour or so. She doesn't go to daycare AND she's an only child so she doesn't see other babies except from the seat of a shopping cart when we run errands or in the park. So she LOVES this book and laughs and coos at the babies on the pages. My only complaint, and this is really small since she doesn't actually READ the book, she just looks at the babies faces, but some of the baby faces don't look like the describing words on the facing page. If you want this book to teach your baby describing words, this isn't the best one, but just for the pictures, it's very cute and entertaining for baby.***EDIT Note: My daughter is 2.5 now and she still LOVES this book!!! Will be getting one for my friends why they start having babies too!!!

Cute Picture Book!,

This review is from: Baby Faces (Look Baby Books) (Board book)
This is an adorable book filled with faces of babies showing various expressions. The size of the board book is perfect for little hands and the faces are true-to-life in size. My 11 month old is enthralled with book and giggles while she looks at it. Even my 3 year old likes to look at it with her!

Are all babies unhappy babies?,
By Rachel Lo "rachello" (St. Davids, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Baby Faces (Look Baby Books) (Board book)
I bought this book because it was recommended as a good book for babies to look at other baby's faces. I was not happy with it because it most of the descriptions of the various baby faces are negative, like "stinky" "uh-oh" etc. I had a hard time explaining to my 3 y.o. daughter why each of the babies was unhappy and my 3 month old son didn't give a darn about the faces. I'll be passing this book along quickly.

Our Son's Favorite,
By Bruce H. Cohen (Columbia, MD United States) - See all my reviews

This is our son's favorite book. He's 8 months old andlaughs every time he sees the faces in the book. When we pick up the book he crawls right over to see it. We highly recomend this book as well as Margaret Miller's other books. They're a hit with our kids.

My husband threw it away!,

I had heard that books like these would be beneficial for babies to recognize faces. The problem with this one is that most of the faces are sad / negative. My husband threw it out - didn't even want to give it away!
