If your child loves the zoo, this is for you!,

This review is from: Baby Genius - A Trip to the San Diego Zoo (w/ bonus music CD) (DVD)
My three-year-old son loves this dvd. He is a huge fan of animals, and the two zoos near our home. He is constantly flipping through animal encyclopedias, doing animal puzzles or viewing animal websites.
This is a good dvd for his never-ending appetite for animals. The classical music is very soothing, they break up the videos of animals with the ABC's, and the footage of the San Diego zoo is beautiful.

Not really impressed...,

I thought this DVD a bit slow, but I gave it 4 stars because my nieces really like it. This was given as a gift to my son but my boys don't care much for it. I think it just depends on what types of videos the child it's intended for enjoy. My boys like DVDs with a lot of music and singing (i.e. Blue's Clues, Veggie Tales) and this one is not for them.
My oldest son loves trips to the zoo, so this DVD might be better if it had animal noises in it as well as the music. I think it's a fantastic concept and maybe the boys will grow to like it, but right now it seems to not interest them.

This video is slow - good for small children who shouldn't be exposed to lots of flashing movement. The classical music is nice. The videography is nothing to write home about, but there are plenty of animals to be seen. My 18 month old daughter oohs and aahhs over them all.
What I cannot fathom is why the creators decided to superimpose cartoon animal pop-ups on the screen every minute or so. It is incredibly annoying and seems so out of place!

My [..] loved the Baby Genius children's songs DVDs so I purchased this thinking it would be a hit also. This one is not the same as the others. It is mostly just animals from the zoo with a classical music score. It is pleasant to watch and listen to, but it doesn't keep their attention for very long. The kids really prefer the videos with a lot of action and other children to watch.

My one year old Daughter loves this. I love how it shows so many different animals. It looks like the zoo cleaned up the park because it looks cleaner than usual. The animals have way more energy than when I have been there in person usually they hide out or are sleeping but on this video they are really fun to watch. They even have a counting song thats catchy too. It's my favorite Baby Genius Dvd. People complain about the pop up cartoons but that just makes it more fun for the kids to watch. I also enjoy the classical music that plays while they show the animals.

I like the music!!,

I liked both The San Diego Zoo and the Underwater Adventure. My son began watching these at about 1 year old, and he is 4 now and still pops them in every now and again. If you think that dvd's are really educational, then you are probably missing the boat. I just enjoyed having this on while I was preparing dinner, in the car or having him wind down before bed or a nap. I would take the classical music over the cartoons and kids songs anyday (I know they are good, but how many times can you hear them over and over!!)

Bought it for my grandkids they watch it over and over. We had to put a time limit on how long that they were allowed to watch it or they would sit and watch it for hours. Very educational. I received it before the date promised and it arrived in excellent condition. Will buy from this seller again.

I bought this for my 1 year old grandson and it was his absolute favorite. It was very age appropriate and he still likes it nearly a year later.

Gets them ready for TBS,
This review is from: Baby Genius - A Trip to the San Diego Zoo (w/ bonus music CD) (DVD)
Like other reviewers have said, there are obtrusive cartoons that distract from the viewing of the animals and don't offer anything to the video. It's like watching TBS with their animated graphics distracting viewers from the program.
That is probably the future of television so DVDs like this one will prepare children for a lifetime of obstructed TV viewing. |
