Book Description

Formerly titled Baby Grand: The Beginning

Humble hero Kevin Johnson, a small boy blessed with quick reflexes and nerves of steel, has to stay in rural Wisconsin with grandparents he’d met once. Isolation and boredom are on his agenda until he learns about a side of the family that had been hidden from him. Among other things, he’d had a great-great-grandfather known as the Motor Maestro who started working in the auto industry in 1904 when he was Kevin's age, and a great-grandfather who drove in the 1927 Indianapolis 500. Too bad his career ended in a tragic wreck, landing him behind bars. Now Kevin’s grandfather wants help reproducing that ill-fated car, believing it could redeem the old racer and mend their broken family. But before they remove one rusted bolt from the relic they're starting with, the pushy pianist from next door talks Kevin into showing it to her. It's the event that changes his life forever.

Other books in the series: Baby Grand Conspiracy, Baby Grand Opportunity. All are full-length, stand-alone novels.

5.0 out of 5 stars Baby Grand I: The Beginning September 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed reading Baby Grand I: The Beginning because it had my interest from the "beginning". At first I thought it was about a piano but no about a car. It was about a family, two young people starting to learn about their families. You get to learn about the main character then part of his family he never knew about. Families are very similar and different at the same time. The main character is more mature, for his 14 years, how he thinks and grows. This is not about just him but his young second cousin, how they learn about family history and interests. A very very interesting book and you become interested in how they grow into family business. Not just a teen age romance novel! A very good book that I only read at bed time and finished in no time. A very good author, you can tell he knew a lot about racing, kept you interested!

The development of the two main characters Kevin and Desiree, as well as the surrounding characters drew me to an emotional involvement. The anticipation of the future growth of the characters made my reading time longer and faster time to read after resting. The author did a remarkable job of meshing all the characters into believable co-existence. Fast reading, but made you read each line. Captured the emotions of youth into a believability to the reader and could not wait to read his next book.

I choose this rating because this book held my interest and showed the hero side of a young person who is usually looked upon as trouble, I also loved the family togetherness
