Lost but not forgotten,
By April Winters (California) - See all my reviews

I was thrilled to see my Uncle's name in print once again (Fred Hughes)! He was and is a talented writer and wonderful singer. Some of his songs were a top seller on Billboard charts and he even appeared on American Bandstand. His soul filled songs bring back memories of how truly inspiring his words could be. Thank you ... for remembering my Uncle and marketing his lost but not forgotten songs.

Good Golly Daddy, you're loved!,

I'm also Johnny Sayles' daughter. My sister Debbie wrote a review on here, and I couldn't agree even more. John Earl Sayles was truly talented and he still is missed. Daddy just had a birthday on February 9. This CD is great, and I'm glad that my sister sent it to me because now I have started a collection just for him. So when I grow up, I can show my children their grandfather was a great singer who passed at an early age, and had a voice out of this world. To me , I know his songs don't relate to my era, but I like Snake In the Grass because it has an upbeat rhythm and I just love hearing his voice. I'm 16 years old now, and even though he died when I was 4, a part of Johnny Sayles still lives within me. I love you Daddy!

A bass player who recorded on Johnny Sayles earlier records,

I think the album reflects the greatness that artist achieve after they have paid their dues and mastered their craft. I recorded on some of Johnny's records that were on George Leaner's labels. I also traveled with him when he was with the Five Du-tones revue. All of his years of experience shows in this album. It is one to treasure.

I am the daughter of Johnny Sayles, and when I found this CD with so much of his music that I did not own, it made me feel oh so proud. My dad was an awesome blues singer whom god took well before his time.Debbie Sayles

When I was a kid my mom and dad used to play the Baby Boy album by Fred Hughes. My fondest memory was the song "I Understand" which they also had on 45. I still own that record by the way.
I searched high and low to find a copy of this album and I was pleasently surprised to find it and Johnny Sayles on one disc! Talk about an old school treasure! Both albums are represented here in their entirety. I never realised Johnny Sayles actually remade "I Understand". It's included here. Not as good as the original by Fred Hughes, but very impressive. If you are a collector of rare soul gems, this cd is a must have for your collection. |
