Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Pres-Grade 2 Many controlled vocabu lary books are dull and trite. This one is an exception. Baby Koala and her mother go from tree to tree, branch to branch, trying to find a place to rest for the night. Each time they find a branch or tree whose ``leaves are sweet, just the kind koalas eat'' the two of them are asked to move on, first by mouse, then owl, and finally by snake. When they come to rest in the very top branch, they have found their home. The owl, mouse, and snake would like to have Koala's branch for their home. Mother Koala tells them that they ``can't STAY here, but come for tea!'' The story uses just 85 basic words. Each page is filled with a bordered brightly colored illustration accompa nied by four lines of text in a bordered mini-panel. Baby Koala is quite cuddly with a pink neck ribbon and a puffy multi-colored patchwork quilt as she sleeps snuggled under her mother's chin. The text and illustrations make a winning combination. 5.0 out of 5 stars "Best. Book. EVER.", March 4, 2011

... In the words of my little sister, that is.

Picked it up on a whim at the library's used book sale, decided to give it to sis... (She is, by the way, eighteen.) ... and for some reason she fell in love with it. The story is simple and cute, if a bit repetitive, with a slightly offbeat/funny/surprising twist of an ending. I've no doubt my nieces and nephews will eventually be hearing this story.
