From Publishers Weekly

Based at New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center, Rosenwaks, Director of the Center for Reproduction Medicine and Infertility, and Goldstein, director of the Center for Male Reproductive Medicine and Microsurgery, team up with medical writer Fuerst to guide couples through the transformation from infertility to parenthood. The physicians have worked in their field for more than 20 years, pioneering many of today's available fertility treatments. Their couples-oriented approach reflects data revealing that males account for 40% of infertility problems, females 40%, with the remaining 20% attributable to both partners. Though infertility is prevalent, affecting seven million Americans, there are many treatment options for couples hoping to achieve the goal of conception and a healthy pregnancy. In comprehensive chapters, the authors cover such topics as choosing the right medical team, cutting-edge tests and treatments, and advanced technologies such as in vitro tertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), a procedure that has "revolutionized" the field. In addition, the authors show couples how to lead a "fertile life style," exploring such factors as nutrition and exposure to environmental toxins. Though detailed and scientific, the text is reader-friendly and accentuated with informative "Take Home Messages" that will help couples expand their knowledge and foster fertility success.

“One of my toughest fights was to father children with my loving wife, Bernadette. After two failed previous surgeries, I found Dr. Goldstein. He is the best ‘cut man’ I ever had. My greatest victories are my Olympic gold medal, my world titles, and my family, the last one with thanks due to Dr. Goldstein.”—“Sugar” Ray Leonard, six-time world boxing champion

"A clear and enlightening summary of the current state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment of couples who are struggling with infertility. Both authors are world renowned and respected in their fields. They offer sensible advise and guidelines to the reader that encompass all categories of male and female fertility issues, including medical, anatomical, environmental and emotional impacts. It is an easy read that I would highly recommend to the couple starting out on their quest for pregnancy."—Sami S. This book is very well written. It is a fertility and fertility treatments guide in a pill. It contains very helpful information starting with self care things which couples can do on their own to improve their chances of conception and ending with simple and accesible explanations of complicated medical treatments for those struggling with conceiving. The world of artificial reproductive technology can be very confusing, but the authors present it in the most simple, yet comprehensive terms. In addition, the book is written with a lot of compassion and empathy for couples who are going through this emotionally exhausting and extremely difficult process. Both of the authors of this book are highly trained and experienced physicians who have expertise in the field of ART which comes from excellent training and extensive experience working with patients. This is an absolute must have for couples who are experiencing difficulties trying to conceive.
