Practical suggestions for simplfying the chaos,
By A Customer
This review is from: Baby Love (Paperback)
Seeing the cover of this book I was apprehensive. Another book on how beautiful it is to have children, with little substantial help, I thought. Well it is about the beauty and a lot lot more. A comparitively short book, each paragraph has practical, sage advice on a host of things one would only learn after years of experience. Written by the daughter of a midwife, the book has years of expereince to draw from. Advice ranges from dealing with family, pets, and guests with bad timing, to setting up a useful nursery. We plan to give this book as a gift to several expecting friends of ours.

This was my favorite book during pregnancy.,

"Baby Love" was one of the best things I read before I had my son. It focuses on keeping things simple when planning for the early needs of your infant. It is so easy to get caught up in all the gadgets and "must-have's" that we see at stores and in magazines and on the internet. This book makes you concentrate on what the baby really needs - love and nurturing and comfort. She gets past the clutter of baby stuff and addresses what you'll need to keep the baby - and you - warm, fed, happy and healthy. To top it off, the pictures are beautiful and sweet. It is a short read and very soothing when you're feeling overwhelmed by everything you hear during your pregnancy. I read it 4 or 5 times when I was suffering from information overload. It's a treat.

Keep it simple, sweetie,

I actually bought this book before I even knew I was pregnant and put it away for the future. A few short months later, it was the first book I chose to read about parenting and baby care. It was comforting to read such straight-forward, child-centered advice. I believe that reading this book has shaped my attitude toward parenting into a more natural, simple approach and has helped me keep my focus on my child's needs before anything else. It is reassuring to know that you don't have to have it all or know it all to be a good parent. I highly recommend this book for other first-time moms.

The Diapering Chapter Alone...,

is worth the price of this entire charming, calming, informative book. I've read so many parenting guides, but none as warm and reassuring as this one. Maud's tips on diapering and handling visitors are the kind that will make you say, "That makes so much sense, how come no one else has ever said it?"

I loved this book.,

I purchased this book while I was pregnant and the cover brought tears to my eyes (still does). I believe strongly in a relaxed, calm, loving approach to parenting, and was annoyed by all the people who tried to convince me that I should be stressed out about this baby! This book really met my needs - informative and practical, and a soothing read for both calm and nervous parents. The black and white photography is just beautiful.I'm trying to find it for every pregnant friend!

If you are looking for an easy-to-read, basic guide to preparing for a baby, buy this book! It is a great addition to any pregnancy or baby care library. It really is a simple book about calm, soothing parenting and preparing for baby, but depending on your needs/experience, it could be all you need. I bought several as gifts for friends and they all love it.

Some fresh ideas,
By Callista "from SMS Book Reviews" (Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Baby Love (Paperback)
This was an okay book. I got it from the library which is what I suggest you do. It has great photos which help you learn things such as clothing your baby, holding your baby, swaddling your baby, bathing your baby and more. Most of the photos are just fun to look at. I read this book after reading many other baby care books but it offered some new ideas for care which I now use. The only problem with this book is that it shows babies lying on their sides or stomach to sleep which is not recommended because of the increased risk of SIDS. Babies should be placed on their back. Keep that in mind and the book is a good read.

I received this treasure of a book as a gift when I became pregnant; I poured over the warm, charming photos and gentle guidance then and continue to refer to the sensible, timeless advice now that I have a newborn.

A charming, calming breath of fresh air,

Parenting advice is, by definition, subjective. But most parenting books attempt to be so evenhanded (or are so research-based) that they fail to present an opinion and instead confuse the reader with information overload. Maud Bryt has created the perfect counterpoint to the frenzied new mother books that dominate the shelves. Her unabashedly direct advice about caring for an infant is more applicable than anything else I've seen (on my way to both my first child and now, to my second child). Buy this book and keep it on your nightstand during pregnancy. It's a beautifully calming force filled with gems of wisdom.

A calm antidote to the usual "how-to" baby fare,
By A Customer
This review is from: Baby Love (Paperback)
A truly "calm" antidote to the usual "how-to" baby books. Unlike old standbys like "What to Expect in the First Year" and the Penelope Leach books, this one doesn't make reader feel so nervous about everything that can go wrong while taking care of a new baby. It's very informative, and has a relaxed, accepting tone. The beautiful pictures make this a perfect shower gift.
