This was an excellent fast pace read and I recommend it to other bookclubs.

Baby Momma Drama consists of several Main Characters. Jasmine who is dealing with her Drug Dealer Boyfriend Derrick and his Baby Momma Wendy. Jasmine finds herself falling in love with Dylan while Derrick is in jail but Dylan has drama of his own by dealing with trying to get over his ex-girlfriend Monica. Then there is Travis who is dating Jasmine's sister Stephanie who can't seem to stay away from her baby's daddy Malek. Stephanie risks her securee future with Travis by constantly getting tangled up in lies concerning her relationship with Malek.

Will anyone be happy in the end? Hmmm .... You'll just have to read this hard to put down book. There are so many twists and turns it will have you glued to each page.

Carl Weber has definitely done it again . I am looking forward to the sequel to Married Men in 2004 called Player Haters.

Baby Momma Drama by Carl Weber

Carl Weber is dubbed by many as the King of Drama, and after reading his third book Baby Momma Drama, I am inclined to agree. Have you ever given any thought to what "Baby Momma Drama" entails? If not, you need to read Carl Webers latest. Each character offers us a different insight into "Baby Momma Drama."

Baby Momma Drama # 1- Jasmine is currently dating Derrick the drug dealing roughneck who fathered a baby with his ex, Wendy. Jasmine finds herself making decisions that are morally incorrect for her out of fear of losing her man to his Baby Momma. In the end, she is pushed over the edge.

Baby Daddy Drama # 2- Stephanie has a good man willing to be
the "Baby Daddy" but she cannot stay out of her daughters Baby Daddys boxers. She certainly finds it easy to put her man's needs on the back burner, though.

Momma Drama # 3-Big Momma, grandmother to Jasmine and Stephanie can jump-start more drama than a little bit. She is meddling and always trying to bully her way into her grand daughters lives.

Mixed with all this drama is a whole lot of sex and spontaneous
decisions that have lasting repercussions. A baby is born into
horrible circumstances, and Jasmine unwillingly finds herself back in "Baby Momma Drama" but in a different light. Wendy and Derrick wind up in the big house doing big time.

Carl Weber did an excellent job of delivering a story filled with drama that was not only believable but also entertaining. I enjoyed hearing the male perspective on drama. If you like reading the drama of characters whose actions are consistent and not so far out there, then this is the next book you should be reading.

Carl Weber has done it again.

In this book you are introduced to two sisters. There lives are different but yet so similiar.

Jasmine has her act together but continues to wait on her boyfriend that is in jail.

Stephanie has the man any woman would die for yet she continues to deal with her baby's daddy.

This was a delightful read and I would recommend it to anyone.

Unfortunately, the third time around for Carl Weber's latest novel was not what I expected. While I assumed it would be about babies, the momma and their drama, the writing of the story seemed somewhat simple. Having read Mr. Weber's first two novels, both of which were thoroughly enjoyable and extremely entertaining, Baby Momma Drama had a very very slow start, almost to the first 1/3 of the book. When it finally picked up, it just seemed too late to introduce the drama and after finishing the book, it was like....."is that it?" I'm inclined to think that this is the author's first story written, yet published third in line. One character in particular just seemed a little bit too....dumb for lack of better words and while I made the attempt to stretch my imagination as far as it could go considering the title and contents of the novel, the character just lacked even minimal common sense.

What I did find positive about the novel is that many readers may relate if they've ever known someone or personally experienced the particular baby momma drama syndrome expressed in the novel. In addition, the author's story kept your attention with the anticipation that the drama was on it's way. There are many times in the book that one will find themselves saying "oh my goodness" as there is plenty of drama going on (last 2/3rds of the book) with the inter-woven lives of the characters, however, for me, the story was just too predictable.

On a final positive note, I believe that Mr. Weber definately has a nack for telling drama filled stories, as he's proven that with all of his novels. As a reader I will continue to buy his work because he adds a different kind of flavor to the world of fiction writing and one "not so good" novel by an author doesn't set the pace for future stories to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Beach Book, December 22, 2004

As a white, fairly conservative librarian, one might not think a book entitled Baby Momma Drama would really captivate me. But that person would be wrong.

My husband and I fought playfully over our copy of BMD during our last vacation to Jamaica. It truly is the perfect vacation read. I'm now hooked on the genre and have begun to read Omar Tyree as well. The themes and characters in BMD are more inner city than Tyree's "Do Right Man." However, both authors are careful not to paint their characters too one-dimensionally. The book is rife with paradox, people moving on up and backsliding. Having come from a Russian literature background, I also appreciated the big cast of [main] characters and the way everything tied together in the end.

If you love movies like "Deliver Us From Eva," you will love BMD. Much like "Deliver Us From Eva", BMD delivers an excellent treatment of sisterly love (and serves up some excellent villains as well!) --- ENJOY!

5.0 out of 5 stars BLACKBOSTONONLINE REVIEWS, February 27, 2004

This review is from: Baby Momma Drama (Paperback)
Sisters Jasmine and Stephanie seem like polar opposites. They dress, talk, and act differently and naturally cannot get along. The only time they ever communicate is when they're trying to insult and/or undermine each other.

The above scenario is not all that hard to believe and definitely does not exclusively apply to African American families; nevertheless, in many cases siblings are often more alike than they would care to admit. In Jasmine and Stephanie's situation they share a common weakness, a critical flaw in their selection process when it comes to the type of man they end up with. These sisters find themselves in predicaments because they continue to stay in relationships with men that have negative lifestyle choices or bad past associations. The baggage these men bring to the table make it impossible to have anything resembling a healthy relationship. Ironically, it is this commonality between the sisters and its resulting drama that brings them closer together. These shared experiences allow them to see just how strong they both can be for each other.

Best selling author Carl Weber has created another wildly hilarious, vividly dramatic, and entertaining novel about two separate lives turned upside down by fundamental problems as a result of BABY MOMMA DRAMA.

Jasmine prides herself on being the more responsible and hard working of the two sisters. Being very careful to choose the right man to share her life with, she assumes she's on the right the track when she meets Derrick, the sexy, well-dressed attorney who seems to say and do all the right things. Derrick's masquerade doesn't last long however, because Jasmine's wise old Grandmother cleverly exposes him for a common drug dealer. When Derrick is subsequently busted, she finds herself stuck in love, waiting for a prison inmate boyfriend who is still mixed up with his ghetto fabulous baby's momma.

If all this drama isn't enough, let me introduce you to Jasmine's friend Dylan. Dylan is a kind, gentle, supportive, and equally attractive man who clearly has strong feelings for Jasmine. Jasmine tries to remain strong in her resolve to be faithful to Derrick while he is locked up but pressures from her family, her conscience, and Dylan are forcing her to make a decision. The "monkey wrench" question remains, is the sensitive Dylan also bogged down with Baby Momma Drama?

Stephanie, Jasmine's younger sister, prides herself on having a good time until Mr. Right stumbles into her life in the form of Travis. Although Stephanie already has a baby from a High School sweetheart, Travis proves he is the real deal by treating her child as if it were his own. The strong, hard working, responsible Travis is every woman's dream. Travis realizes that Stephanie has a wild side but he tries to domesticate her through kindness, a new beautiful home, and an engagement ring. Stephanie truly loves Travis and tries hard to prepare for a quiet married life but loses control when her child's father comes into town. As a result, she finds herself tangled in an affair that corrupts her health, sanity, and everything she has built with Travis.

Author Carl Weber never ceases to amaze me by continuing to produce high quality work. Weber has a strong ability show all the sides of a character while letting the reader draw his or her own conclusions. BABY MOMMA DRAMA has a little something for everyone and will prove particularly enjoyable for people who have been involved in these kinds of relationships. I recommend this book to readers of all ages and both genders. I give this book my highest rating of 5

3.0 out of 5 stars The title sums it up, January 5, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Baby Momma Drama (Hardcover)
I found Baby Mama Drama entertaining, but not a superior work of fiction.

When I started the book I could not believe how ghetto the characters were, but after thinking about it I realized that Weber is just keeping it real and that everything that happened in this book can and does happen in real life.

To those who say Weber is a better writer than Eric Jerome Dickey, I personally think that they write for different audiences. I prefer EJD.

This book is a testament to how stupid both men and women can be in romantic relationships. At times the book gave me a headache because the characters continued to make pathetic, life-altering mistakes. Is anybody really this stupid? I gave it 3 stars because I found it entertaining for it's ridiculous situations, but the level of character development and plot twists was average. This isn't a page-turner, but it's worth a paperback purchase price or loan from the library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Momma's messy, daddy's crazy!, December 18, 2003
This review is from: Baby Momma Drama (Hardcover)
BABY MOMMA DRAMA is that and a whole bag of chip at retail price!Sisters Jasmine and Stephanie are sisters, but to hear them tell it, that is where the similarities end. Taking a closer look, you can see that the problems are closer in nature, just with different men. Jas has gone on a three-year drought waiting for Derrick to be released from prison on a drug-trafficing charge. Her take is that he is a good man caught up in making money to keep them living well. Being the good girlfriend, she makes her visits and supports him, even though his son's mother is also making visits and taking the money Jas leaves for Derrick, even going so far as asking Jas to take money he has to his baby mamma's house. Love is not only blind, but in Jasmine's world, it plays better piano than Stevie Wonder. Stephanie is no better, dealing with the appearance of her daughter's father, Malik, after become permanent with Travis, a good brother with good credit. This guy wants to do right by her, but the love-hate relationship with Malik makes Steph do some unladylike things. Another quick, entertaining read from a brother who seems to have a chokehold on the urban market with crazy characters in crazy situations.
