The Centerpiece Of This Cd Is Mr. Curtis Stigers Wonderful Voice!! He Has Hit The Mark With This Great Jazz Cd. Stand Out Songs Are, "Marie","Everything Happens To Me", "I Keep Going Back To Joe's" & The Great Title Track. Buy This Cd If You Enjoy Jazz, Sung By Someone Who Knows How!!! Looking Forward To His Next Cd!!!!

As a keen Curtis Stigers fan for many years, I was at first surprised that he would record a jazz album at all. With an initially meteoric pop career, it seemed to me that Mr. Stigers' market still lay in soulful pop. I would have thought that the commercial limitations of jazz might have further restricted his profile to the wide audience he truly deserves. However, what an absolute scorcher of an album 'Baby Plays Around'actually is.
His superb vocals provide a really fresh feel to a beautifully crafted selection of top notch straightahead jazz.

Curtis Stigers (singer/songwriter) has gathered a talented jazz-musician backup...featuring Randy Brecker (trumpet), Christian Minh Doky (bass), Larry Goldings (piano), Dennis Irwin (bass), Adam Nussbaum (drums) and Bill Stewart (drums)...makes his latest release with Concord, destined to be a hit with the jazz enthusiasts.

Of course there are some stand outs ~ "BUT NOT FOR ME", "LET'S GET LOST" and "ALL THE THINGS YOU ARE", these standards are timeless, as Stigers gives his heartfelt renditions...but the highlights are two new songs "LOVE" and "BABY PLAYS AROUND", blends soul and jazz into one lingering melody, uniting passion into every lyric.

I've always said that Curtis needs to do more jazz, more jazz, and more jazz. "Baby Plays Around" quickly became one of my all-time FAVORITE albums before I even finished my first time listening to it! His amazing voice rivals, in my humble opinion, even that of the late Frank Sinatra. In addition to his masterful voice, the group accompanying Curtis displays their chops as well, and are a brilliant and soothing support for Stigers. You won't lose with this CD!

For Curtis Stigers fans like me Baby Plays Around is the perfect album. He has truly mastered his voice. For those of you who don't know him, now is the time to become educated. Curtis is a platinum-selling vocalist and saxophonist who has put together an album of time less classics like "But Not For Me," "Lets Get Lost," and "All The Things You Are." Along with these covers Curtis also has a couple of new songs "Baby Plays Around," and "Love" on the album. He is truly in his prime right now as an artist.

One of my favorite cd's of the year. Curtis Stigers never sounded better and this is an artistic triumph. He reinterprets some old and new standards and makes these songs his own. The musicianship on the cd is impeccable and it sizzles.

first heard him over the credits of the film GAME 6 doing Take Me Out To The Ball Game. sounded great. went out & bought this one based on all the reviews. he aint no Chet or Mel or Franks, but he is OK. i will even buy the disc with Take Me Out... on it. you can buy Baby, it gets better each listen.

He moves on with this new album onto playing lounge style jazz. You would think he had been doing it all his life. His ease, rhythm and style makes this one a winner for me. Friends who have heard it have expressed similar delight. It is good!

Stigers publie un album de standards de jazz, le premier qui constitue pour lui le réel tournant dans sa carrière.

Peu ou mal connnu en France, Curtis Stigers est un grand chanteur, calme et posé qui a reçu une solide formation musicale à New York ; après avoir fait beaucoup de pop, il est passé à un rpertoir très jazzy dont ce disque est la première illustration de marque.

Baby Plays Around a été enregistré pour le label Concord Jazz auqeul participent en back office des pointures comme Randy Brecker et Minh Doky, entre autres.

D'autres albums de jazz confirment cette herueuse reconversion : "Secret Heart" (2002), "You Inspire Me" (2003), le sublime "I Think It's Going to Rain Today" (2005), "Real Emotional" (2007) et le tout dernier "Lost in Dreams" [2009] Tous sublimes.
