Great concept for toddlers, but not younger... We bought this toy for our daughter when she was 7 months... I would not receommend this for any child under the age of 1 1/2 yrs. old... Why? becuase @ 6 & 7 months my daughter is trying to climb and pull up on anything w/in arms reach and this is not strong enough to hold 16 lbs. of baby weight... Besides that it is also virtually impossible for tiny inexperienced hands to grasp the balls once inside the base to get them back out.. so once the pound them through teh holes they stay there until mom and dad remove them... too much trouble.. not enough child interaction.

My son & I both love this little toy, it has a volume control and the hammer and balls aren't heavy so they really wouldn't hurt if he hit someone, or himself with the hammer. I would have given it the full 5 stars, but MY GOD FISHER PRICE!!!!!!!! This thing took me 15 minutes to get out of the packaging, and I cut my finger with the plastic that covered the balls. Why do Fisher Prices toys have to be, taped, stapled, and WIRED in the package? Give a Mom a break!!!!!!!

Good toy for the money,

We bought this for our 7 month old son and he loves it. The lights and music keep his attention well and he's starting to learn how to use the hammer to hit the balls in. I agree that the opening should be bigger... he currently can't get the balls out of the bottom. But it still has a button to activate the lights/sounds on the base so it doesn't require constant adult interaction...(BTW, the songs are very catchy compared to most baby toys with music)

My 11 month old son loves this toy. The hammer was, overwhelmingly, the best part for him in the beginning, now he has learned to put the balls on the top and hammer them through. Unfortunately he has a hard time getting the balls out of the bottom. His little fingers are continuously getting stuck while trying to get the balls out. The openings definitely need to be bigger. Aside from that, this is a wonderfully entertaining toy to have.

Our daughter loves the sound effects. Stuffing the balls through is great fun. Sometimes she's not interested but when this one catches her attention, she'll play with it for a good long time, experimenting with what else from her big pile of plastic shapes will fit in it and what will make it make sounds. She hasn't gotten the idea of setting the ball in place and then hitting it with the hammer, but that's ok, a plastic hammer is always a lot of fun, so long as the fragile stuff is out of reach, there aren't other kids around, and the cat has sense to run away (alas, he doesn't, but it doesn't hurt him).

I bought this for my 5 month old nephew and at first I thought he didn't like it, I think it scared him. It was loud and he wasn't sure about it. Three days later I couldn't get him to stop playing with it. He's 8 months old now and still loves this toy. Now that he can hold the balls with one hand he thinks he hot stuff. He's been able to push the balls through the holes since the beginning and now can use the hammer to hit everything!! His face still lights up when he makes the toy's lights and music play. One thing I wish they would have done to make the toy a little more educational is make the ball's colors match the colors around the holes to help teach colors later. I would buy this again.

My little one received this as a 1st Birthday present. It has gotten the most use. She doesn't understand the concept of the hammer, but she loves putting the balls down the holes over and over again. The only negative is that she knocks it over from time to time and it topples pretty easily, but once it is up again, a-pounding she goes! Oh - the two volume levels are GREAT!

My 2nd daughter, unlike my first daughter, likes very few toys. She does like to whack things, oddly. The plastic golf club set and this toy are the only 2 that hold her attention. She seems to enjoy the fact that she controls when the lights and music turn on. And unlike the other reviewers children, the small opening for ball retrieval wasn't a noticeable problem. This was definitely worth the money for us.

We have the Stand-Up Ball Blast too and our daughter likes that better. This one is still good because not all babies can stand yet, it is less expensive, and the baby can put the balls back in without having to sit and stand, in theory. I have yet to see my 9mo old put the balls in the holes after she knocks them in with her hands. She does chew on the hammer though. I am hoping that she will grow into the toy and use the hammer to knock the balls in the holes and then replace them....we'll see. She does have fun with the toy, probably because she makes me do all of the work. It is also portable so you can take it to Grandma's. The toy has some educational value because babies do need to learn to pick up objects and place them in specific places. Also handling that hammer is a skill...think of how many times you have hit your thumb.

My baby and I have fun with this toy! The music is so happy and cheerful so when baby gets the balls in it makes her feel like she's accomplished something great and every mom loves to see that on their baby's face. I think she uses it more without the hammer that came with it but she has found other uses for that!
