I have have three young children, having used both this feeder and the previous feeder put out by Sassy the Sassy Teething Feederthis one is an improvement. The ring at the top of the feeding bag which sits inside the green ring on this version does not collapse where on the previous version it did. As a result with the previous version there was always a risk the bag could be pulled out from the feeder itself allowing baby direct access to whatever food was inside the bag, posing a choking hazard.I do not agree with previous reviewers which said these are difficult to keep clean. Banana, Avocado, sweet potato, frozen cooked fruit it all comes out, and I've had no issue with it staining the bags, even when the food has been left in the bag for an extended period of time, rather then being rinsed out when baby is finished. I do not use bleach or anything like that to clean the bag. I rinse the bag as I'm turning it inside out, spray it with a little Biokleen Bac-Out Stain & Odor Eliminator with Sprayer, 32-Ounce Bottles (Case of 12) and let it sit for a few minutes while I'm loading the dishwasher, give it another quick rinse and then put it in the cutlery tray in the dishwasher. I don't consider that difficult to clean because I use Bac-Out on everything from carpet stains to laundry stains, I have yet to find anything it will not remove. Secondly turning something inside out to wash it is a pretty normal thing if you want your garmets to last, I'm not sure why the previous reviewers would suggest soaking an item, or turning it inside out makes it harder to clean. At some point in your adult life you are going to have to soak a pot, pan, baking dish, cups or other dishes and cutlery to get them clean this is no different, if you have kids there will be items which need to be soaked. I think the bigger problem is the cleaner being used not the product itself. I also have had no issue with the ring cracking, chipping or otherwise breaking. I check them before I use them to make sure they are fine, just like I check all toys before the baby plays with them. He bangs them on the table, throws them on the ground, chews on the green ring and handle (prefers it to a teether toy) and at one point his oldest brother (4) was trying to play a strange mix of hockey and soccer with one of them. For me it has proven to be very durable. Maybe the other reviewer simply got a defective product, I suggest contacting Sassy to see if they will send out a replacement for the defective piece. In short I feel it is a great product for helping babies to some control over and feed themselves. They learn through mouthing. This feeder has helped me to get my son to eat foods which he previously did not want, because he was introducing it himself, he could take little tastes. Instead of it taking 10 times of me trying give him a new food, using the feeder, it only takes 2 or 3 times. I'm very happy with it.

good it but keep an eye on it,

I use this product often with my 6-month old son with fresh fruit. The bags get gross and hard to clean, so buy replacements from the start. Be careful though, as my son gnawed a hole in one side with his little bottom teeth buds. I had cherries in it at the time and it could have easily choked him. I will still use the product, but keep a close eye on it. The hole only happened to me once with many uses.

Our 7 month old daughter loves this, a piece of ripe banana inside and she's in baby heaven. The screw on design is easy to use, and the replacement bags make washing up easier. (and you can buy new ones too)We got the munchkin brand first, and the design of that one is far inferior to this. You have to pinch little plastic tabs to release the hinge, and the mesh is not replacable.

Children's Store Owner,

I went on Amazon to read all the reviews of baby safe feeders. I wanted to find a product with nicer packaging than Designs 2U. The packaging is so ugly and old-fashioned (in a bad way, I often like old-fashioned) And it must be hung on slat, rather than set on a shelf. After reading all the reviews I realize I am probably already carrying the best feeder. Other products are made in China, have paints that come off of a product meant for babies to chew, or come off in pieces in babies mouth pieces, ALL UNEXCEPTABLE. It seems highly unfair for customers to take off stars because my baby "doesn't like it." That is not a helpful review. Even more unfair and absurd it the complaints about the cleaning. A mesh product that is meant to be be a sieve for pulverized food will, by design, be tough to clean. But grow up and get real. You are asking for way too much in a world that is so easy compared to what mothers of days gone by had to deal with in their lives. All babies are different and of course, some will like to eat in this way, while others will not. Obviously this is designed to prevent chocking and therefore certain compromises must be made. For what it is designed to accomplish, this product is the best. I have sold many hundreds of them in my store with no returns or complaints; I just don't like the size and design of the packaging. Made in the USA is most reassuring also.

Baby Loves This! Bags Aren't Dyed! Made in US,

I chose this soft food feeder because it was made in the US and the feeder bags weren't dyed. Why on earth would I want my baby to suck on a purple feeder bag when he can suck on an undyed one? These are easy for my 5.5 month old to handle, and in my experience clean up pretty easily it you turn it inside out and scrub with a toothbrush as soon as he's done. These are definitely an improvement over the cheesecloth that I was previously wrapping pieces of fruit in, though we'll see how durable they are once he's gotten some teeth.

Decent product, but there is a better method.,

I bought this product very excited to be able to offer my baby tastes of solid food, because he doesn't like being spoon fed most of the time. I had no issues with the product, other than the fact that my baby was not interested in the food in the net. He preferred to chew on the plastic half rather than the bag containing the food. I was disappointed, but a friend of mine mentioned to me another method called "Baby-Led Weaning". I purchased the book titled the same and have had much more success! It is not about weaning off of formula or breastmilk, but rather about allowing the baby to explore easy-to-handle pieces of solid food. To my surprise, the baby has natural reflexes that prevent swallowing chunks of food or choking on food. My baby is 7.5 months and will suck on bread, meat, vegs and fruit with no problem. I am a careful parent, a physician who knows too much about what can go wrong, but still I felt comfortable allowing my baby to explore solid foods once I had the guidelines and the backup of the information in the book. As a first time parent, there are so many gadgets and methods to try. I thought that I would like the netted baby feeders, but now much prefer handing my baby food directly. He gets to experience the full texture of the food, practice his motor skills, and there are no nets to clean! I recommend looking into Baby-Led Weaning instead of this product if you like the idea of baby learning to feed him or herself.

My little munchkin wasn't much for food, but the baby safe feeder was a great way to get her to taste more foods. I freeze baby food in BPA free trays, and then I can pop a cube in the feeder, and she'll suck on it. Then when I try to feed her the real food, she's more receptive because she's familiar with the taste. Great product!

My son and I both love these. We have tried a few other types of feeders but these are the best. I've been giving him fresh fruit in these since he was about 5 months old. Soft fruits seem to be the best, pears, grapes, mellons, etc. Bananas can be a pain to clean but I've found that a small scrub brush does the trick easily. I use one of the fruit and vegie scrub brushes or a nail brush. Definately a good purchase. It gave my son the ability to feed himself easily and I don't have to worry about him choking on small pieces. The bags last quite a while but do need to be replaced occasionaly.I have only had one bag get a hole in it and have never had a problem with the plastic pieces even though they often hit the floor. I have started using a binky leash to keep them off the floor when he drops them. My son is 10 months old now and still loves theses. He actually goes into the drawer and pulls them out when he want some fruit!

My mother-in-law gave this to us when our son was about 6 months old. We used it with him, and our daughter years later (she's now two). We washed them in the dishwasher - they clean very easily as long as you take them apart. My kids never chewed through any of the sacks, but I did have extras just in case. I washed them regularly in the little baskets for baby bottles and other small miscellaneous kitchen items. These mesh feeding bags have been great for teething times, especially. Highly recommend them! Kathy, mom of two

I LOVE this wonderful, inventive feeders! It is a great way to introduce flavors to your child and a wonderful teething toy. I have used apples and peaches with my daughter and she gets to have the taste without the choking hazard. I see alot of people talking about putting bananas in them and some with problems- I don't think I will ever try bananas- they are so soft they seem like they could squeeze through the mesh and would be tough to clean.I wash mine by soaking it in hot water, then scrubbing the mesh inside and out, and for safe measure I sterilize the mesh with the bottle nipples and my pump equipment in the microwavable Medela steam sterilization bags (great for a little extra comfort in the disinfection!) |
