A fantastic extrapolation of reality into fiction,
By S.Y. (Marcellus, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Baby: Secret of Lost Legend [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is an excellent story that, while clearly fictitious, well represents the treatment of exotic animals by humans. As in real life, profiteers feel the need to exploit nature for their own benefit. Unlike real life, this movie has a happy ending. A PG-13 rating would probably be more appropriate; while there are topless women, we are talking National Geographic topless, not Penthouse topless.

This movie is great. I haven't seen it in like ten years but I can't wait to watch it again! I used to rent it every time I went to the video store, this and the Last Unicorn, and I just loved it! Sure, the Brontosaurus really never existed and more correctly is called the Apatasoarus b/c there was a dino race in the early 1900's and they found the complete body of an apatasaurus but no head, so they incorrectly put the head of a Brachiousaurus on the apatastaurus and called it a brontosaurus - but that's okay- it's still good!!! And to those who have negative feelings towards this movie that have already reviewed shouldn't place bad memories of their long lost childhood to fault this movie b/c it's really great!!!

When I was a kid I would rent this movie everytime I went to the video store. I've been looking for it for quite sometime and randomly stumbled upon it in a store I went to. People kind of looked at me funny when I started jumping up and down and screaming, but that's ok. This movie is sooooo addicting. Once you watch it, you'll be in love with it. It's one of those movies that you'll watch and just have to watch it again each time a friend of your says "Gee, I havn't seen that." Beleive me, for $... you can't go wrong. It's well worth every cent. Like a previous reviewer I also wish it was available in widescreen, but when I was a kid I watched it in full-screen, so it's a true blast-from-the-past in sooooo many ways. Also, for those putting out the DVDs... lets see the wide-screen come out with some cool special features on it please.

I grew up watching this movie and just recently found it on dvd I was so excited. For the time this was incredible and any one who says jurassic park is the best dino movie ever is obesly to young to fully get this movie. at the time it was cutting edge I feel sorry for you. I have all the jurrasic park movies and I would watch this one 40 times more then those. This movie paved the way for those movies. I wish they would do a remake

I remember watching this movie as a child with my father. When my oldest son started to love dinosaurs, I knew he would love this movie too. It's great to share this with him. Delivery was quick too. Thank you!

I loved this movie when I was a kid. I was so happy to find it on DVD. It is just wonderful. It is a great story and makes you take a look at what man does to the Earth and its creatures.

While this movie does not have the advanced special effects that are present in todays movies this one was top notch at the time it was made. My children and i enjoyed it a lot at the time and we still like it now that they are grown. They have added it to their dvd collections for their kids to enjoy. This is a Disney movie but be aware that this was released though one of their sister companies which does allow a few strong words in it. Other than that the movie is very good.

Baby, Secret of the Lost Legend is about a young couple in Africa who "adopt" a baby brontosaurus and try to protect it from those who would exploit her. Great family movie!

Simple, Innocent Storytelling,
This review is from: Baby: Secret of Lost Legend [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Ever wonder what the folks at Disney might do with King Kong? Well, substitute a dinosaur for the big ape and let the title creature live and that's pretty much what you get: Baby...Secret of the Lost Legend (1985).
Baby follows a pair of scientists (William Katt and Sean Young) who discover a family of Brontosaurus (or Apatosaurus, if you like) living in the jungles of the West Indies. Everything is cozy between man and beast until a group of bad guy opportunists (led by a truly nasty Patrick McGoohan) enter the picture. They see financial possibilities in the creatures and capture a baby Sauropoda. Just when things look their darkest, the good guy scientists and the mother Brontosaurus come charging in like cavalry, route the bad guys and the dinosaurs live happily ever after. The story is pretty predictable stuff, but the dinosaurs, an interesting mixture of puppets, cable control, and men in suits, works a lot better than one would expect. Largely harmless and mildly amusing. |
