Grade 7 Up Penny adores her older sister. Although she is aware that they are very different people, she wishes she could be like Cassbrilliant, original and vital. Cass mostly pays attention to Penny when she wants to reform her: make her more interested in schoolwork and less prissy. It is only when Cass goes away to college that Penny begins to come into her own, finding that she loves sewing. She begins by sewing simple patterns, then quickly goes on to sewing entire wardrobes and re-upholstering the living room. She realizes that since she hates school she might as well drop out and earn her diploma by taking an equivalency exam. But her most important realization is that she has long been in love with Cass' down-trodden, rejected ex-boyfriend. He soon discovers that what they'd both assumed was friendship was love all along and they decide to marry. In a short book, Sachs offers some good insight into sibling relationships, rivalry, various kinds of love, self-awareness and growth that may especially appeal to girls not much taken with mainstream high-school life. I like this book because it was a good book. This book really inspired me. It was so good that I know that I shouldn't be lazy anymore. I now that I should always go to school and to the library and when I need a book to read. Reading books makes me be a better reader. Thenks a lot.
