Not like the PBS TV show,

This review is from: Baby Sister (Caillou) (Board book)
This book was very disappointing. The characters and the storyline are very different from the usual TV show on PBS. Caillou misbehaves and although he is reprimanded, it could be confusing to a small child. I ended up skipping those pages when I read it to my daughter.

Not the kind of ideas I want to give my child.,

This review is from: Baby Sister (Caillou) (Board book)
In this book, Caillou models all kinds of acting-out behavior. Although it may be dealt with effectively, I feel it will put the wrong kinds of ideas in my child's head about behaviors. While the feelings Caillou tries to express are definitely valid and normal, I don't think I need to give her any ideas about biting or hitting.

A Wonderfully, Honest Book,

This review is from: Baby Sister (Caillou) (Board book)
My 2 year old son received this book as a "baby shower" gift while I was nearing the end of my pregnancy with my daughter. He really identifies with 4 year old Caillou and he loves the bright illustrations. I was concerned with the unacceptable ideas of biting the baby and hurting a doll, but my son actually received positive messages that biting and hurting someone else are not acceptable. I really like the loving parental response to typical anxiety about the arrival of a new baby. My son has never even attempted to hurt his baby sister, though I often hear him repeating "We can bite apples, but not the baby." I've purchased the book for all my friends who were expecting their second or third children. I also recommend Caillou's "Potty Time" and "Mealtime" books.

Timely cute story,

I was researching many books at the children's book store to meet this hearty story about new family member arrival. Through the 2year old brother to be eyes, we could get to know the various emotions about his new sister.Recomend to the mothers who are expecting the second baby, not only for mothers but off course big sisters or brothers to be to share the new feelings about the upcoming event.

A must for all toddlers who are big sibs,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Baby Sister (Caillou) (Board book)
A book that sensitively and realistically portrays the feelings and anxieties of an older sibling dealing with the arrival of a new baby in his world. My 22 month old loves this book. It helps him identify his feelings of jealousy, aggression, sadness/anger in an accepting and understanding way. In the story, Caillou's mom and dad acknowledge his feelings and wishes while helping redirect his behaviors in more acceptable ways. Contrary to the negative reviews about the book written on this site, this book actually addresses all the normal (but complex) feelings and behaviors of toddlers in a sensitive and effective way. It in no way encourages nor condones negative behaviors. Highly recommended for all toddlers who have younger sibs.

A book full of bad ideas,

I bought this book for my daughter who loves Caillou. It's a terrible book filled with so much bad behavior, I'd like to throw it away. Caillou bites the new baby! Not a book to read to an impressionable sibling--especially one who loves to be like Caillou.

Not a good example. . .,

I bought this book for my son right before his sister was born but the little boy in the book talks about hurting his sister and I think that is a very bad example. The idea is good though, for talking to a toddler about having a sibling.

Pure Disappointment,

I was very disappointed and shocked when I first read this book. My jaw literally dropped.Caillou is portrayed as a very naughty child who regresses in development and displays poor behavior after his sister is born. He wets his bed, wants to drink from a bottle, bites his sister, and throws a doll against the wall that happens to look just like Rosie. I find this book very inappropriate to read to a young child; and I am saddened to see Caillou portrayed this way; especially knowing how much my daughter adores him.

Surprisingly horrible,
By A Customer
This review is from: Baby Sister (Caillou) (Board book)
As my daughter loves the PBS show, I was excited to find a book that showed a tv friend in the same situation as she -- soon to become an older sibling. I was horrified to find that Caillou BITES his new baby sister and gives other terrible ideas to its young readers. Why in the world would the author introduce such thoughts?? I will never buy another Caillou book!
