This review is from: Baby-Sitting Is a Dangerous Job (Mass Market Paperback)
I liked this book because everytime you turn around something exciting happens! The characters are fit for the book.I liked the main character, Darcy, because in the end she is very brave. This book has exciting, mischievious characters. The baby-sitter,Darcy Stevens, gets interviewed at this "high-quality" house. She gets the job and finds out that the children are pests! The second day as she was finishing making lunch ,when all of the sudden the burgular alarm went off!The police come and search, but there's no one around. The police leave and a few minutes later... If you want to know what happens you'll have to read on!So hurry up! It's to exciting to wait!

Perfect for a baby-sitter,

From the moment that Darcy set her eyes on the three foster kids, she knew that baby-sitting would not be a "fun" job. Even though the pay was twice her rate, was only for a few hours a day, and Darcy was an experienced baby-sitter, she didn't count on the mysterious things that started happening at the children's house after she took the job. She did everything a good baby-sitter was supposed to do. She didn't let the stranger saying he was from the gas company into the house, and she called the police when the house alarm went off in the middle of the afternoon. All of a sudden, a strange thing happens, and now it is up to Darcy to rescue the foster kids and herself from three dangerous kidnappers. This book is full of suspense. That's why it's interesting to read. Once you start reading you can't stop. You just keep on turning the pages. Will Darcy be able to save herself and the kids? If you want to find out, read the book and get caught up in the great adventure with Darcy and the three kids.

My dad got this book at a clearance, I thought it would not be that great. Then I read a couple of pages and I could not put It down. Its so intensifying, I just cant explain it!! Well actually I can :P There is a girl named Darcy and she is baby-sitting three bratty kids. One day the burglar alarm goes off, the police come and go, then she realizes (when she sees them) that they got into the house and were there the whole time! The burglars plan is to ransom the kids! Darcy and the three children begin to like each other and help each other get through. Will they escape or not? Hmmm...

This review is from: Baby-Sitting Is a Dangerous Job (Mass Market Paperback)
I liked this book because it was exciting and you never really know what is going top happen next.
This book was about a baby-sitter who while baby-sitting the brattiest kids ever. An alarm goes off and she thinks it was one of the kids just playing around but then she finds out that some one actually did break in and that they are planning to kid nap the kids for ransom. They were going to let the baby-sitter go but then she let it slip that she knew who the leader of the group was. Now they are locked in side of a house and Darcy (the baby-sitter) has to do what ever is possible to get her self and the kids out of there. And with a little help from the kids maybe she can get them out. I would recommend this book to someone who liked books of suspense and thriller. Willo Davis Roberts is my favorite Suspense/Thriller writer and i have read a couple of her other books I would recommend that you read also Twisted Summer and Scared Stiff.

I read this book over 13 years ago, and it remains one of my all time favorites. When I go through my boxes of books and find it I have to smile b/c I remember how great it was and how I was up until 3am on a school night reading it. Now I'm twenty-five and tempted to go through the boxes just to read it again. Wilo Davis Roberts should be commended for writing books that people want to read thirteen years after they already read it many many times.

gripping mystery story,
This review is from: Baby-Sitting Is a Dangerous Job (Mass Market Paperback)
Thirteen-and-a-half-year-old Darcy Stevens lives in Marysville with her dad, mom, older brother Tim, and younger brothers Bobby and Jimmy. She has been babysitting since she was eleven. She has been asked to babysit the three Foster children while their housekeeper Mrs. Murphy is having some extensive dental work done. Mr. Foster is a bank official, and Mrs./Dr. Foster is a psychiatrist. During the interview, Darcy, who has never babysat three children at once before, decides that Jeremy, six, Melissa, four, and Shana, two and a half, are spoiled and bratty, but she is promised twice her normal hourly rates and a bonus for a job well done, so she agrees.
However, the three unruly kids are the least of her worries. Mysterious things start happening. When returning home from the interview and later that afternoon when out with her friend Irene, Darce notices that she is being followed by a black car. After starting her work, she does everything a good baby sitter should do. She doesn't let the stranger claiming to be from the gas company into the home. She calls the police when the burglar alarm goes off in the middle of the afternoon. However, some time after the police leave without finding anyone, three intruders break in the house, kidnap Darcy and the Foster children for ransom, and take them to an old house out in the country where they are guarded by ferocious Dobermans. Darcy recognizes the men as the father and two brothers of her classmate Diana Hazen. What do they plan to do with the kids? Is it possible for Darcy to escape and get help? Author Willo Davis Roberts, who is a two-time Edgar Allan Poe Award winner, has created a gripping mystery story with a great deal of spine-tingling suspense, which will make it hard for most children to put down. The subject of child abuse is brought up and dealt with sensitively as Darcy and Irene learn that their friend Diana is being mistreated by her father and try to help her. There is very little objectionable. While told from a girl's viewpoint, the plot is exciting enough to interest boys as well, although some parents might consider the little discussion of Irene's still being flat-chested as opposed to Darcy's developing a little faster to be somewhat inappropriate for pre-teen boys. As to bad language, the euphemistic word "gosh" appears once and that's it. Young lovers of mystery adventures and anyone who has ever done babysitting should like this story about a babysitter's worst nightmare. |
