5.0 out of 5 stars Great for ages 0-101!
I am a trained classical musician, and father of 3. I generally steer away from most compilations, which generally consist of the same old classical top-40 stuff, in dumbed-down packaging. This CD is different- it is "smarted-up"! Still, it is totally accessible, and the selections are perfectly chosen to soothe the little ones. I like to play it while they are...

2.0 out of 5 stars What is all the hype about?
I purchased this CD on the basis of the reviews written on Amazon. I have to say I am terribly disappointed. My son hates the CD, I listened to it and I am not all that impressed either. It is ok but nothing like described by other users.

I like to play it while they are playing, to help them wind down towards nap time.

The selections, and the performances, are first rate. THere is a wide variety of styles, periods, and instrumental combinations. Some are off the beaten track, such as the Elgar. You will buy this for the baby, and use it for the baby, but will probably listen to it yourself for years to come!

This makes a great gift, much nicer than that "Music makes you smarter" junk. Music makes you musical, and that is its justification. This CD will foster music appreciation (and help at naptime too!).

Not only does our baby love this music, but it is beautiful for us adults to listen to as well. There are 24 tunes, all strictly instumental except the last one. It runs over an hour and does not have any major "loud spots" despite a very nice variety of music.

Highly recommended!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars This CD makes a wonderful baby gift for new parents., November 2, 1999

I have given this CD to several new parents and have never received less than a rave review. Many of these folks are musicians by profession, and without fail they have been very enthusiastic about the soothing qualities of the music on the album. My own daughter who is 14 listens to this recording while going to sleep at night. I highly recommend this CD as a gift for new parents who will enjoy spending some quiet time with their babies!

I listened to this CD when I was pregnant, through the rough parts of breastfeeding, and during the day. My son responds instantly when it begins to play. I am getting an extra copy for traveling / babysitter. Calms me when things get a little hairy.

A wonderful mixture of musical textures. I'm a nurse practioner at a hospital, and even my patients and their parents responded favorably to the sounds.

5.0 out of 5 stars I would give it more than 5 stars...., November 18, 2005
This review is from: Baby Sleep (Audio CD)
I had this CD when my daughter was born 5 years ago, and it gave us such a soothing environment in which to bond during quiet times. We also put it on shortly before we'd put her down to sleep, and by 6 weeks she was sleeping through the night in her own crib. I think it was her sanctuary, and the music helped her feel comforted. We've since then completely worn out the CD (she listened to it through her 3rd year), and will have to buy a new one for our next little addition (coming soon!). I found it on this site and just listened to the samples from each track. Aahhh... very soothing for Mommy, too!
I also plan to get it as a baby gift for a friend. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars This collection is great for soothing babies, October 12, 1998

I am not any kind of music expert, however I do know that this CD has lulled my baby (and myself!) into many peacful times of rest. Played softly, the music seemed to surround us with comfort and relaxing sensations. Of course we liked some tracks better than others, but I often left it on after my baby had fallen asleep to enjoy all the tracks not yet played. I am adding it to my list of must-have gifts for new parents.

5.0 out of 5 stars My girls listen to this every night, November 9, 2006

My girls (ages 3 & 5) have a hard time winding down at night. We have a regular bedtime routine (bath, snack, teeth brushing, books, hugs), but they still take forever to settle down and sleep. Adding this CD to the bedtime routine has really helped.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely, November 8, 2008

I purchased this for my daughter because it includes the Brahms' lullaby at the very end. When I first sang this lullaby to her when she was two and a half, she cried. I asked, "Why are you crying?" She said, "Because it's so pretty." We were in the guest bedroom on the second floor of her grandparents' house in Portland, a little bungalow in Northeast, the night before the Portland Marathon. The next morning, looking out the window, I said, "You can see the tree tops!" and she said, "But where is the Rockabye Baby?" So, when I bought this CD for her third birthday, we were pleasantly surprised by all the other selections as well - the sweetest pieces from a very wide time scale, from Bach to Elgar and Satie. I am particularly fond of the 4th track, "Dream Children", by Elgar, as well as the Prelude in C by Bach, which here is played on a harp. On the whole it is a very calming CD and is nice for going to sleep or grading my 7th graders' science work.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Grandmother's Dream, September 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Baby Sleep (Audio CD)
My grandson has been listening to this CD since he was born. It has always been his favorite CD. We have had to order more because it was played so much. He is almost five years of age and recently I could not understand why he loves the Tom and Jerry Nutcracker Suite so much. He wants to watch it over and over. Well it turns out it is on the CD. We just upgraded to a newer and smaller Bose system and I have purchased more of this CD which is getting more and more difficult to find. We duplicate everything for his home (one street away)and ours. I also use it in my private practice and patients love this CD. They listen to this CD and 4 others which I change out, however, I NEVER change out this one because patients always comment on it. Definitely a winner and I have probably 30 relaxation or classical music CD's.
