Book Description

March 21, 1991
A parent's journey through the early years of a child's life is composed of exciting and surprisingly rapid changes in its growth. In 'Baby Talk', Monica Devine, a seasoned expert in the field of speech and language pathology, helps parents to enhance communication skills in the early stages of infancy and toddler hood through a delightful array of age-appropriate activities and games which are typically built into daily routines.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Dividing the first three years of a child's life into three-month intervals, Devine discusses how parents and other caregivers can encourage the development that takes place at each stage. The three-month intervals are not to be taken rigidly; each child should be allowed to develop at his or her appropriate pace. A great how-to text, this book recommends a wide variety of ways to interact (communicate) with a child from diapering to playing with a baby's toes. Some adults seem instinctively to know how to communicate with little ones. But even the pros can learn much from Devine, as she presents both new ideas for activities and the reasons--based in sound theory--for doing them. Highly recommended for any collection with an interest in children's care.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hands on book for the parent that wants to take action, June 11, 2004
This review is from: Baby Talk (Paperback)
I love this book because it offers up things one can do to help the child learn. It also tells you what to expect at different stages of baby's growth. It is easy to read and understand and offers up early intervention. I highly recommend it.
