This review is from: Baby Trend Playard W/Bassinet & Canopy (Baby Product)
i made certain all sides were locked prior to placing my 14 month old daugher in this playyard. within five minutes the lock broke and the side collapsed on my daughter. thankfully she was unharmed. i called the company and was given a very hard time and was told i would have to send the item back to them to be repaired. i did NOT want to ever place my child back in this play yard as the directions specifically state if the sides collapse it can cause injury and DEATH. anne and connie at baby trend were very rude and unhelpful and insisted i send it back for repair. fortunately i was able to return it to the store, and after a discussion with the manager who saw my play yard was in perfect condition gave me a refund and i PROMPTLY WENT AND BOUGHT A GRACO. do not buy this product or your child could be seriously injured.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT...,

...unless you are able to open it up before buysing and check to make sure it can actually be assembled! After spending nearly an hour trying to decipher the vague and poorly detailed instructions/diagrams for assembly, I reached a point where I could not continue where one of the support poles could not be properly inserted into the bassinet fabric. After contacting customer service, apparently the area had been "overstitched" to where the pole could longer be inserted all the way through and I was told I would have to order a new bassinet fabric altogether and wait an additional 7 business days for it to be ordered and sent to me. (And Judging from the rep's precognitive "guess" as to what my problem was, it was also very apparent that this was not an isolated issue but probably one affecting several other customers in the past as well.) After realizing the total lack of professionalism practiced by this company - selling a defective product - I began to seriously think about simply returning the product in exchange for a NON-Baby Trend product; and after now reading several other reviews warning against the safety of this product as well, I will MOST DEFINITELY return it and never buy another Baby Trend play yard product again! Save you money, time, piece of mind - and YOUR BABY'S LIFE - by not buying this product!!!

A great playard, but room for improvment,

I really could have used a plain-jane playard, like with my first child (now 18 months) but I found that I REALLY wished it had a canopy, so I purchased this one for my now 5 month old.PROs - Very simple to set up. If you follow all the directions, it will be up in about 25 minutes - Sturdy, nothing broke off or fell off. My 18 month old can even stand in it without breaking it - The changing table (although I thought wouldnt be used) is great because it flips up and over (the Graco model like this was WAY too extravegant) and its comfortable... trust me, you will thank the flip version! - The bassinet is sturdy, and low enough that my baby (premie) is still inside of it. Its a full sized one too - It wheels around and I have managed to fit it through our doorways - The canopy is TERRIFIC! For the first 4 months while in our room, this blocked him from the sun AND a very curious toddler! The animals are adorable, and actually colorful - I love that everything fits into the bag provided, EVERYTHING! Its also lightweight and easy to bring on flights, or to grandmas - The playard folds in minutes, and goes up the same. Its still strudy and easy to use. - I like the storage, I can fit diapers, wipes, creams, pacifiers, toys, the carrybag, and a few blankets in the various pockets. CONs - Its a bit too "frilly" for my taste. The dustruffle also attracted DUST and my cat enjoyed hiding underneath it. I removed it as well, after finding several bottles and pacifiers underneath the playard - There is no music or vibrations (atleast in ours). We had to use the music from something else, which was a really annoying hassel. - I wish that it had an actual mobile, that would spin to entertain my baby - The bag doesnt have a handle, this is VERY annoying and even after trying to attach our own, it falls off and is hard to carry. - Its NOT NOT NOT for the beach or the park! I have to use the old playard (colorful Graco model, just the bottom pen) because this is a nightmare to clean (unless if its just being used on the deck or something) - This is the same with nearly ALL playards, but you cannot securly attach crib toys, or really any toys for that matter onto the playard for entertainment... I dont know how well it will be for "playing". All in all I really love this Playard, and I will defiantly be keeping it. With a few improvements, this would defiantly be the only one to get.

Sooo many extra options, but a little worried...,

This review is from: Baby Trend Playard W/Bassinet & Canopy (Baby Product)
I looked at every play yard at Babies R Us, alot of them aren't even on this website. I brought all of them down, shook them for sturdiness, took a look at all the options, and this one was my favorite. It has so many extra options that you can't get on a graco or evenflo for this price, like the sun shade that has cute little animals on it, the changing table just swings over the side out of the way, and comes right back when you need it. One of the sides has a roll up sun shade which I didn't even realized until I set it up, the padding seemed thicker than any others out there, and the side bar...plus everything fits in the bag!!!!Downside.....I don't know how sturdy this one will be. I put it up with the bassinet in it and the bottom of the play yard won't sit flat on the ground, it doesn't have a middle bar support and the connectors on the bottom are plastic and could break. The sides are locked great but the bottom is my only worry, it could collapse easily it seems. I am torn on returning it or not, it is a great price for it though. Hope this helps people out :)

danger of collapse,

I was soooooo happy to get the entire matching set of Baby Trend's Palm Tree set. High chair, travel system and play yard. Well, the "plan" was to let Casey sleep in the play yard (It has a basinet feature) in our bedroom for the first couple of weeks until we get a "real" crib. So here I am, 5 days from my due date. The play yard has been set up in our room for over a month so our dogs can get used to it. My DH goes to move it to vaccum and IT COLLAPSED! We thought maybe we didn't set it up right, but on close inspection, we found that the plastic bracket on the center of the bottom had broken. I don't know if it was cracked when we got it or not. We took it back to Babies R US. We looked at their floor model and it looked OK, no cracks. Then DH put it through the frustrated husband abuse test.. :D Tugging on the handle to close it up. Flipped it over and sure enough, some stress cracks had appeared. Now, granted, this particular brand you are supposed to TWIST the handle and lift at the same time. If you just pull without twisting, that's when the problem arises. So we could have gotten the same model and probably been OK. But if someone else tried to break it down, they may cause damage without knowing it. Rather than risk it, we went with a Graco instead. It seemed to stand up to the frustrated husband test just fine. You should have seent he looks we got with him thrashing that thing around! hee hee!

After reviewing all Graco models and price; and comparing to this baby trend, it was clear which one was best. After bringing it home, I tested it with my 4 year old and 6 year old, and it held up fine. I feel quite comfortable that my new child (any day now) will love it...and most importantly, be safe in it! You will not be able to beat the price/performance of this item.

Beautiful playard, don't listen to the negative reviews!!!,

The negative reviews are all very strange.First of all, this is a very safe sturdy playard. It has one of the most sturdy bassinet features on the market. We have NOT had a problem with this wobbling, swaying, sagging or collapsing. I have not had a problem with the bottom support leg that is in the middle popping up either. The changing table that swings over the side is also very sturdy. I have rolled this all around my home with not a single problem. I think the negative reviewers are not setting this up right somehow. Read the instructions after purchasing to put the parts together and for first time set up and take down. It is very important. This playard has a very nice palm tree theme with the jungle animals, and the colors are a very nice neutral with burgundy and gray and brown. The mobile animals are too cute. We bought this a month ago, and my 2 month old son loves it! He loves to look at the colorful animals (giraffe, lion and zebra), which are absolutely adorable (unlike the mobiles on the other playards which have the same animal, either lambs or teddy bear heads and are not interesting to look at). He sleeps very well in the bassinet, and when I am changing him on the changing table, he looks at the animals and he smiles at them. We take this outside with us when we are on the patio, and it is very easy to take down and put back up. It has a nice carry bag that holds ALL the pieces to this playard unlike the Gracos, which do not hold everything in its bag. This is a very wonderful product, and we are very pleased with our purchase of this item. It is a great playard and has great features (bassinet, flip away changer, organizer, canopy with cute animals, ruffle along the bottom) It is very attractive to look at and for all the features it has compared to other playards with some of the same features, is less expensive. This is a great safe place for my baby. We love this playard so much, I feel sad for the day he outgrows it. I feel the quality is outstanding. Hopefully you will not let the negative reviews persuade you to not buy this product. When the reviewers all went out and bought a Graco, they aren't buying anything different in quality, just the more expensive name.

I had been deciding between this Baby Trend playard, and the EvenFlow playards...I heard (as well as almost everyone else who is pregnant) wonderful things about the Gracos, but I didnt like the bright colors (was supposed to be for napping) and that not everything could fit into the bag provided... I chose the Baby Trend playard and I am truly satisfied. 1. The color is very nutral, and matches with a few of the other Baby Trend items... Its also quiet enough for a baby to sleep in, as well as drawing the attention away from itself (good when you have a very curious toddler and a sleeping baby!) 2. I found that setting up the playard was very simple, BUT you MUST follow the directions... A few parts are sort of a no-brainer, but if you follow ALL the directions the first time, it will be set up correctly, and you will MOST likely not expirience any other problems. I also found that once the playard was assembled, it was fairly sturdy... My lab/golden mix bangs into it, and even "jumps" (front paws only) onto it, and its never so much as wobbled. 3. The features are terrific, Canopy with the hanging COLORFUL toys... I cannot explain how much my son loved them, and now at 7 months its yet to get "old". The bassinet is a FULL bassinet and happens to be very sturdy. I never expirienced too much of a "sway" and my son always napped well inside of it, and its never sagged or been too hard. The changing table is probably one of the best availible on a reasonably priced playard... It flips over the side, so you dont have to detach it, yet I found it to be EXTREMELY sturdy, and my son STILL loves to be changed on it. I also like the music (although my son never "took" to it) and it played for a fairly long time, and had a few various settings. I also happen to like the vibration, which is something my son LOVES, and it was quiet too. The light was okay, but my son never really slept in the playard at night, so I cannot vouge for its greatness. And lastly, the changing organizers! There is one HUGE pocket on the side of the wall, and this holds diapers, blankets, books, onsies, and an extra changing pad. The other side holds my travel wipes case, pacifiers, bottles, and toys. They are very well made and hold up extremely well. 4. EVERYTHING packs up into the bag (ours has a handle) and its very easy to do. Once in the bag the unit is quite heavy, so we never used it as a "carry on". Its also easy to set up and take down, ANYWHERE! I also love that the playard can fit through most of my slightly larger doorways, which is a HUGE plus! 5. Outside on the deck the playard is fantastic, but I would NOT recomend bringing this fancy model to the park, or the beach... We happened to invest in a Graco Pack n Play Sport, which is TRULY excellent for outdoor useage (or for larger children as it doesnt have a weight limit) All in all I highly recomend you purchasing this playard. I find it to be very sturdy, beautiful, and convinient. The other "negitive" reviews still confuse me, but I am sure if you follow the instructions, you and your baby should have a wonderful expirience with the Palm Tree Playard.

very nice item for the price,

I am not sure of the problems the other reviewers had. I don't understand the problems they had putting it together after purchasing it and I am wondering also about the collapsing. Yes, it will collapse, IF it is not properly set up, which will happen with ANY playard if not properly set up. Maybe they didn't like that Baby Trend is only sold at babiesrus and toysrus, and didn't want to trust the item because it wasn't a "popular brand", or again, maybe they weren't reading the instructions how to properly set this up, there are enough warnings and instructions printed all over this item as well.My husband is 220 lbs and was leaning on this and it didn't collapse, then he and I BOTH were leaning on this and it didn't collapse. We took this apart and put it back together in the store with no instructions in less than 25 minutes and put it back together in no time at all. He put this together at home in around 30 minutes without reading the instructions because there was nothing really to it, snapping on a couple of wheels, the other end feet, and snapping on the sides to the changer, big whoop. The other stuff was a piece of cake too. Just be sure to read the instructions though, because there are safety features regarding the handle on the bottom and how to put up and take down. I looked at all the playards at babiesrus and then all the area stores (Burlington, Sears, Kmart, Walmart, Meijer). I looked at quality, features, looks and prices. Knowing that my baby won't be in this item for a very long time, I didn't want to spend $140.00 on a playard with the same features because I won't be having anymore children. I didn't want a used one because I didn't want to take a chance with recalls and unknown problems. My husband and I while in the store took this one off the shelf, took it apart, and put it back together. At first we couldn't get it to lock, but then a lady with an Evenflo playard said she had to pull up the handle in the middle and then lock the sides, well when we did that, they all locked with no problem, so to be sure we could "master" this, we unlocked and locked them again, and leaned on the sides with no problem. Like I said, we did this in less than 25 minutes. I also tried the graco ones and couldn't get the buttons to release so I could collapse them, and after reading those reviews about not being able to put everything in the bag, decided against those, what's the point of taking it places and not being able to carry it all together? And the evenflo, which I did like also, you have to unsnap everything before being able to collapse. Once I got this home and read the instructions, the handle on the bottom and the way you have to rotate it to put up and take down, this is a safety feature. I liked the features, the flip away changer, the bassinet, the canopy, and the organizer. Added feature is the ruffle along the bottom. I liked the patterns on the other playards, but this one is starting to grow on me, it is a nice neutral pattern and goes well with our home and my husband liked it as well over the others. We also liked the two sectioned bag it stores in, it holds everything to the playard. I do wish it had a mattress sheet though, so I will be going to buy one at babiesrus later. My husband and I found the quality of this item comparable to the evenflo, and graco models after inspecting all of them in the stores for 3 hours. We liked the price of this one for the quality and features we were looking for. Good luck to everyone and I hope this helps someone, especially, after reading all the other scary reviews on this. I don't think it was fair to such a nice item. It really is not difficult to use and is really a great value. |
