I read vol. 1 en 2. If You are a carbine-fan You must have these books! There are something like the "carbine-bible"! Good to read, as much info as there is available after all these years! If You are a collector, only buy after reading Ruth!

If you are serious about collecting the M1 Carbine, then you really need both volumes of the War Baby series. If you are looking for answers and are tired of the arrogance and snobs on the message boards, then go directly to the source with these two volumes, and save yourself some frustration.

This book a must for those who own carbines that they aquired 40 years ago, or last week from the CMP.
The author carefully records and documents everything known, and debunks the myths about this unique weapon.

Good compilation of the history of the Caliber 30 M1 Carbine.. Great detail from manufacturing, minimum information on the Saginaw Steering Gear (Saginaw Mi and Grand Rapids Mi) Serial Number assignments. Otherwise, excellent book.

Then you need this one also. More history, details on associated gear and tools, and a very good review of the commercial carbines out there. Another great reference for a great weapon. (I hear Volume III is coming out soon so don't delay on this one).

This book deals allot with the Changes for the M1 Carbine going into the Korean War. If you plan on owning a M1 Carbine or collecting WWII memrobelia this book is a great resorce of Carbine Information.

I was looking for a few more stories, though there were some and some good pictures of the rifle in the field. The depth of accessories and every model of the M1 Carbine you could ever image and its' life in the civilian world was the real focus here. Some info about the controvery included. Bottom line, the M1 Carbine did exactly what it was designed to do and the fact that many Joes preferred them on the front lines is amazing. People that compare this nifty semi-auto niche-carbine to the M1 Garand just don't get it.

These two books are the Bible on the M1 .30 cal Carbines, anyone collecting the carbine needs to have them as reference material. You may think they are a lot of money, but believe me they will save you a great amount on wasted purchases George
