While I was pregnant with my son Zachary, and especially during maternity leave, I searched for a book like The Baby Web because it was something I could really use. The amazing thing to me was that nothing like this was available anywhere. Not at the library. Not in the bookstores, online or otherwise.
Being a computer professional, I know how helpful the Internet can be for anyone who is even the least bit computer-savvy. And especially helpful for the parents of new babies, who never have enough time or opportunity to go shopping, run errands or get to the library. When you go online, you can find clothing, products and information that just arent available locally. Do you have a store in your town that sells toys for girls only? A store just for preemie clothing? A place nearby where you can get health questions answered about your baby in the middle of the night? Its all available on the Web. Its just a matter of knowing where to look. The problem is, finding that out can take thousands of hours. That what it took me.
What I feel Im doing by writing and publishing this book is fulfilling a need that I know exists. With The Baby Web, I feel like Im helping parents turn surfing the Web into childs play.

About the Author
ABOUT THE MOTHER OF THE BABY WEB
It's perhaps only natural that Gretchen Nalley would write and publish The Baby Web. Besides having the entrepreneurial spirit, she has all the other necessary qualifications. Foremost among these is that she's the mother of Zachary Cole Nalley, the nearly two-year-old inspiration for the book. Plus she's also a computer professional who designs web sites, and still works full-time as a computer systems administrator. Of course, it helps to have always had a great interest in young children, too. She taught English to Japanese toddlers in Yokohama after graduating from college. But the catalyst for her book came during maternity leave after the birth of her son. During her free time, she began searching the Internet for baby-related Web sites. While doing this, she discovered that there were many more than she had thought. And she began to realize that a directory of these websites could help new parents like her and her husband Critt save time, save money and make parenting! a little easier. When she found that no directory like that existed, she realized she had an opportunity. An estimated 2,000 hours of web-surfing later, her brainchild became a book. How does a working mother find time to write and publish a book? "You find time for the things you really want to do", says the author. She is currently pregnant with her next book.
