A little potty, for a litte guy!,
By Madeline (NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: BABYBJÖRN Little Potty - White (Baby Product)
My sons are 6.5 months old, and 2 years old. I purchased this potty when my eldest son turned 10 months old.
I wasn't exactly potty training him then, just letting him get used to the apparatus. I could tell he enjoyed it though. He had it on his head, he liked to put bouncy balls in the "pot", and eventually (about a week later) he began to sit on it while anyone was in the bathroom. I love the design of the little potty. Both of my boys happen to be very small, my oldest is quite thin and tall, while my other son is just tiny. This potty is NOT for larger/older trainers, but it happens that my boys fit the potty just fine. The whole concept is also no where to be found other than in the Little Potty... straddling. Yes, your child "squats" onto the potty, and holds the little handle, a.k.a. the splash guard. The child should be comfortable, and the possition is actually very "good" for "making". There is no where for your child to lean back, but durring those longer time periods, the design of the potty makes it so that the child doesnt become too uncomfortable. I can justify to its comfort because my children like to sit on it to watch television, so it honestly cannot be too bad! The potty is also completely one piece, and I mean that's all it is. Its lightweight, and even stackable! The wide base means it wont tip over, and its also small enough to fit in anyone's bathroom. When I say small its small, about 4 inches off the ground, and about 8x9 inches! The size has also proven to be very useful while stowed away in the trunk of my Jeep Liberty, we just pull over and let him go (with a plastic bag lining the potty of course!) Along with its small size, and one-piece design, the potty is incredibly easy to clean. I can just rinse it off in the sink/tub, and wipe it off. I would also recomend spraying it with Lysol or something, atleast on occasions. The potty's also come in variety of colors including... red, ocean, white, sunflower yellow, black, and pink. We happen to own two, my eldest son has a blue one, where we just purchased a red one for my other son (who is completely clueless as of what to make of this thing!) They are also fairly cheap, at around $9 a piece, another surprise from the usually $$$ Baby Bjorn. As for performance, the Little Potty works for us. The catch pot is tiny, around the size of a large grapefruit, yet my son has never overflowed it, whether that be with urine, or feces. My son started "training" at around 16 months old, and can now dump the contents into the toilet as well, although there have been a few messes on occasions (due to spilling, not due to the potty's design). We also found that if you add "grippers" to the bottom of the potty, it works better. Before the "grippers" the potty could slide across the tiled floor, making a horrific screeching sound as it went... but not any more! I totally recommend trying it out in the store before your purchase. If that's not possible, have your child sit on it as soon as you get home. I say this because I am positive that there will be negative reviews because the potty is just too small, but if its too small when you purchase it, return it and try another... My friends 98th percentile 3 year old couldn't fit on this potty, and although there was disappointment, she bought him the other baby bjorn stand alone potty (with two parts) and he fits better on that one. I purchased a potty seat for the toilet, which my son is getting accustomed to now that he's older, but I certainly plan to use the Baby Bjorn Little potty for my next son, who may even become trained earlier! And they will defiantly be around for at least another 2 years, what a great potty!

Got this about 6 weeks ago when my daughter was 6 mos old. She's average size and fits fine with her feet on the floor, and can reach around for toys without falling off, but can climb off when she's done (or bored, so obviously supervision required). She goes in it regularly - she seems to have figured out what it's for (having me hanging around saying "pee-pee or poop on the potty" like a raving lunatic and making the ASL potty sign may have helped.) I put her on it before/after naps and any other time that I see her straining or when it seems to just make sense.
Easy to clean up - best method we've found is to run some water into it right after baby uses it, and then dump whole mess into the toilet; add water and dump in toilet until it's clean enough to meet your standards; then spray with Lysol.

Great potty for my little girl!,

We purchased this potty over a month ago. I wanted to start potty training our (then) 17 mo. old daughter. This was the perfect size for our PETITE girl. She is a little smaller for her age, so this worked great. She even did #1 on the first try.
This potty is as straight-forward as they come. It's all one piece, so no disassembly required to clean. Just dump and wash. SUPER EASY! I can see why it wouldn't work for bigger or older kids because of its size. But for those parents who are training younger children or those that are small, this is PERFECT! COMPLETELY happy with it!! The price is just wonderful and the design is simple!

Perfect for young babies!,

I read some info on EC'ing and thought about giving it a try when my daughter is old enough to sit on her own (even though that is not a requirement for EC). Then when my daughter was around 6 months old, she didn't want to poop in her diaper anymore. Every day I'd put her on the changing table, open her diaper, wait, and she'd go shortly after as she lay there. That continued for a week or so and I decided to get a BB Little Potty per recommendation from a mom's forum. I actually got the white one but it is no longer available online so I'm doing my review here since they are essentially the same product except the color.
From the time my daughter was 6-1/2 months old till she is 9-1/2 month old, I put her on the Little Potty every time after she wakes up from her nap. If she goes, she goes; if not, no big deal, we try again after the next nap. Well in these 3 months she has pooped in her diaper just four or five times or so, the rest in her Little Potty. It has since been "retired" because at 9-1/2 months she has moved on to the BB Toilet Trainer (that goes over a regular toilet seat). Even though she will sit on the toilet when we go out to my friend's house, I keep the Little Potty in my car in case we have to use the public restroom. I actually bought this at BRU because I wanted to check out both the Little Potty and the Potty Chair in person. Even though the Little Potty does not have a back like the Potty Chair, this is a better size for young babies, mainly because it sits lower so the height is just right. My daughter was about 6-1/2 months old when she first sat on the Little Potty and her feet can touch the floor. That helped a lot since she just started to sit on her own a little after her 6th months. Just FYI, she has long legs but she is a thin baby. This might be different for boys, but I have never had a mess with this potty. Everything is contained in the potty every time. And cleaning is very easy. I do pour in some bubble bath wash and water and soak it for a little while after each use before rinsing it clean and it gets rid of any smell very quickly. I highly recommend this product if you are thinking about EC'ing. Keep in mind though that every baby is different - it just happens that mine doesn't like dirty diapers and she's willing to sit on a potty for quite some time if she does need to go. ***** ETA Jan 2008 ***** Now my son has inherited this and has been using it since he was 2-1/2 months old.

Love this Potty!,

This review is from: BABYBJÖRN Little Potty - White (Baby Product)
We have had other potties and this is the best, except for the Baby Bjorn Toilet Trainer which fits on the adult potty. The potty plastic is hard but contoured to fit a child. Hard plastic is more sanitary because it won't crack and gather germs like the padded kind. The urine splash guard does the trick with little boys until they learn to aim, but is not cumbersome for females, either. It actually helps provide some stability to the child. The design is clean and nice, which is important to us because my kids' bathroom is also the guest bathroom, decorated to look like a spa in cool blues and white. The white seat doesn't stick out like a sore thumb or look overly cutesy or childish in a nice bathroom. We take the seat on vacation with us and visiting relatives. Personally I would prefer that both my one year old and my two year old use the Baby Bjorn toilet trainer that sits on top of the regular toilet, but my daughter gets freaked out way up there. I like not having to empty the little potty and clean it out all the time, but Clorox disinfecting wipes help with that. If your child is scared of sitting up so high, go with the Little Potty. This varies with each child. My daughter is scared of the adult toilet and likes the Little Potty, but my son wants to be "BIG" like us and use the adult one. If you end up needing a floor potty, go with either a one piece design like the little potty, or a design in which the 'collection bowl' can't be removed by the child while sitting on the potty. We had a Royal Potty -TRASH! My son was scared of the red light that sensed urination or bowel movement, and freaked out when it made noise. The splash guard was bothersome to him, causing him to hurt himself more than once, and he frequently pulled it off in midstream, making a mess. He also pulled the collection bowl out from the front in midstream, and ended up peeing directly on the floor. Love the Baby Bjorn - you can't go wrong for less than $10

Great for Elimination Communication, too!,
By
This review is from: BABYBJÖRN Little Potty - Red (Baby Product)
The Baby Bjorn Little Potty is the potty of choice for those practicing Elimination Communication (taking baby to the potty when they need to go, rather than relying exclusively on diapers). The small size makes it easy to help even newborns use it, with mom or dad close behind to support their body fully. As children learn to walk, they find endless excitement in learning how to sit on the potty by themselves. By the time our son was 18 months, he also started dumping this potty in the toilet by himself... a feat he could never have performed with a larger or more complicated potty.
The only ways they could make this potty better are: (1) a higher splashguard for boys (available on the Baby Bjorn Splashproof Potty, which is no longer distributed in North America, sadly); (2) A clear version (available in the Babywunder Potty from Germany); (3) a non-skid rim along the bottom (available on a similar potty a friend found at Target). But all in all, it's a potty that works for *all* ages... even the youngest ones!

Got this potty today and I am so glad that I am finally able to throw the old one in the bin.
This potty is a simple design and so easy to keep clean. My daughter is just 3 and small for her age, but she fits on it fine. She loves her new potty! She doesn't sit on it for ages, just sits down does her business and off she goes. Thank you for saving my sanity. Finally potty time clean up is simple and easy.

Great, but not for my little one,
By
This review is from: BABYBJÖRN Little Potty - White (Baby Product)
When I found this potty in amazon, I was more than happy because it
seemed exactly as same as my ideal image; however, when I actually got this, i was little disappointed due to the size. It's smaller than I've expected, and pretty tight for the boys. But overall it is one of the greatest. It's in one piece, so really easy to clean up. Other products, I found in local baby stores, are multi-pieces, so you would need to un-assemble every time of wash, or to put plastic bags on attachable tray to avoid water-cleaning. And also, it is stack-able(if you have two or more), means easy for storing.

This potty is great. As the previous reviewer mentioned, it's one piece so nowhere for the pee to go except inside. I think the only fault is that it's incredibly low to the ground, so although that is great for new learners, once they master the potty training and you just need an extra around the house, it doesn't encourage them to go because it's too short. If you can spend a bit more, the newer model with the inside that comes out ($24.95) is much better in my opinion. HIgher for sure, and actually easier to dump since it has an insert. Make sure never to use bleach in these, though, I ruined the bottom of one of these by letting it sit in a 50% bleach solution, it ate away the smooth bottom.

Not for us,
This review is from: BABYBJÖRN Little Potty - White (Baby Product)
My son who is 2 really liked it at first and would sit in it while reading. When I tried to get him to sit in it without his clothes on he hated it since it was hard plastic. When he got up after less than 5 minutes his bottom had a really dark red ring around where he had been sitting. It just didn't work for us.
