5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Little Pies! February 21, 2013
When our oven was out of commission and waiting for repair, I used this pie maker a few times and each time Babycakes made perfect little pies. Our favorite was a chicken/sweet potato pie. I have the best results with Pillsbury refrigerated pie dough. My only tips: be gentle when pushing in the dough with the forming tool so you won't rip the dough - push 1/2 way and reposition dough if it's off-center. The other tip is to run a paper towel with a dab of canola oil along the bottom and sides and the pies will come out with ease. Never make a 2nd batch when the unit is still hot. I'm so pleased with this machine, that I'm thinking about getting the mini pie maker to use for smaller hors d'oeuvers. Love it; great gadget I wouldn't have discovered if not for the broken oven.

2.0 out of 5 stars Unnecessary device that's hard to clean April 21, 2012
Durability: 2.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 2.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
The idea is exciting--mini pies without having to heat up the oven! The actual reality is far more mundane. The device lets off a lot of heat during baking, so it's not really safe for kids to use. And it's a huge pain to clean up, because if even a single drop of filling spills, it gets caked onto both sides of the inner workings. If this had been designed so the inner pie tin area could be pulled out and washed separately, this would be a pretty great device. But as it is, it's so difficult to clean that I probably won't use it more than a few times.

If you're hoping to make mini pies, your best bet is just to get some mini pie tins and stick 'em in the oven. Far cheaper, far easier to clean, and they'll take up way less space in your kitchen.
