When our oven was out of commission and waiting for repair, I used this pie maker a few times and each time Babycakes made perfect little pies. Our favorite was a chicken/sweet potato pie. I have the best results with Pillsbury refrigerated pie dough. My only tips: be gentle when pushing in the dough with the forming tool so you won't rip the dough - push 1/2 way and reposition dough if it's off-center. The other tip is to run a paper towel with a dab of canola oil along the bottom and sides and the pies will come out with ease. Never make a 2nd batch when the unit is still hot. I'm so pleased with this machine, that I'm thinking about getting the mini pie maker to use for smaller hors d'oeuvers. Love it; great gadget I wouldn't have discovered if not for the broken oven.

I bought this pie maker (and a mini-pie cookbook) for my mom a couple months ago, and we love this thing! The pie maker itself works well and very fast. It comes with a cut-out thingy for the crusts, a mini cooling rack, and a manual with a few cool recipes in it. Usually, the pies only take around 12 minutes to bake. There's a lot of reviews that say the cleaning is a huge pain, but the inside is non-stick and super easy to just wipe down in my experience (just don't make a mess when filling the pies and you'll be fine). Since the manual only has a couple recipes I also bought a book called "The Magic of Mini Pies" by Abigail Gehring. I HIGHLY recommend it for this pie maker (it's got tons of sweet and savory recipes perfect for this machine/ you can also use store bought roll-out pie crusts too if you're lazy like me). On the down-side, it does get SUPER hot (like steaming hot) so keep the kids away during cooking. And even though cooking times are super quick, making the pie fillings does take the same amount of time as for a full-size pie. All around, it's a great tool to have if you're big into leftovers and preparing pie fillings ahead of time because cooking goes so fast. No problems other than I'm sure it will make me fat...

Perfect individual pies, quiches, even muffins and so easy to use. Perfect to make small batches so a large pie doesn't go to waste when you tire of the same thing.

I love it, and highly recommend it. Use it for many different kinds of dishes, not just for cupcakes and pies. You are limited only by your own creativity!

This is a fun thing. My family and friends love getting their own mini-pie. The problem is cleaning it if any fruit escapes during baking. My suggestion is: after the pies are formed and before closing it to bake, put a small piece of plastic wrap over the crust cutter, cover each pie and spray with Pam and don't forget the lid. If you still have fruit residue: after the pies are baked, while the cooker is still hot, lay wet paper towels inside for about 5 minutes then clean. Another thing I've tried is using my pie maker to form the pies then transfer them to a muffin tin for baking. You can make more pies at once this way. The muffin tin cavities are a little too deep but a small amount of oat fiber covered with a circle of parchment paper does the trick.

This price seems really inflated - I just got one at the grocery store for $9.99, marked down from their normal price of $14.00.

The recipe book is really small - you may need to create your own or get another book for mini pie recipes, but the recipes in it look good.

What a great idea! large pies often go unfinished, dry out, but with the babycake pie maker, they are individual and gets finished up right away. Really like this. Very economical in the long run. Can make two pies one day and more another day, and they are always fresh.
