I am a first time parent. I purchased this book because I wanted easy access to quality information that could help me understand how to care for my infant and understand his needs. For everything from diapering tips, fingernail cutting, poop consistency, nursing and so much more, I feel like this book offers decent advice. The book is separated into very convenient sections: * a list of "firsts" to help you learn proper newborn care * Birth to 3 months * 4 to 6 months * 7 to 9 months * 10 to 12 months * First year health guide This book also has advice for new dad's, experiences from hundreds of real people, postpartum advice (especially useful sexual advice), and also shows both sides of current issues such as breast v. bottle, pacifiers, circumcision, which diapers to use and much much more. It isn't perfect but it offers some great advice from experts and everyday people like you and me.

I purchased this book because I like the pregnancy one (I really recommend that one). Got this and the What to expect, I like What to Expect better. I was quite bumped with this book because (I think) it's so general. As a first time Mom and with no close relatives around to ask for advices (I think) this book doesn't really tell me what to do and what to aware of. Having a high-need-first-baby is so frustrating if I can't get the info quick enough and in detail. I ended up with worrying too much and the What to Expect has most answers of my question (and so relieving that those questions come from other moms, I'm not alone!). This book just didn't work for me. I gave it three stars because if I'm in different situation, maybe it serve the purpose.

I have turned to this book periodically over the last year for advice. I think it combines encouragement, tips, and substantive information well.

This book was kind of ridiculous. They start each chapter with polls about baby milestones. If you put any confidence in those polls, you'll end up with a completely messed up idea of what to expect of your infant. Very few of those numbers agree with anything else I (or anyone else I know) have read or experienced personally. The rest of the chapters are basically fluff - no real substance. There is a little good info in the section about the first week, but beyond that it's totally useless. Definitely skip this one.

This was a great book to get a very general idea of what to expect in your baby's first year of development but it was too general for me. The book did not break it down by each month of development but by phases ie. 4-6 months. I prefer to have a book that goes into more detail. But overall not a bad book.

I bought BabyCenter and Babt 411 and liked this one much better. It really has everything you need to know edited in a very easy to follow and interesting way. The information is up to date and the different polls give you the parent's practical perspective. Completely recommend this book!

Babycenter ties together everything you need to know during the first year of your baby's life. I love that the book flows nicely and covers most everything you can or will need to know. The real life reviews are also great!

This book covers a lot of info that you will be interested in during your baby's first year. It's laid out very user friendly and touches on almost everything and inclues lots of anecdotes from new mothers. My only problem with it is that it doesn't go into as much detail as I would like. If I am looking to find info about diaper changing girls rather than boys I want them to spell out every little step and what I should be considering. I would recommend this book as a supplement to your baby book library not the only one you need.

I got this book after I become a mom for the third time. Even though Im an "experienced" mom, this book has helped me in ways that I cant explain. This book is like the perfect combination of professional advice with tips from parents like us. I would highly recommend this book, wether you are a first time mom, or mom of five.

I found the book to be very helpful to 'typical' children. I have 2 children, my oldest has Cerebral Palsy and my youngest was born prematurely. If you are looking for specific advice on premature babies or kids with special needs, this may not be your book. There was some wonderful advice on breastfeeding, and basic child care. I thought the polls at the beginning of each section were great. It's fun to see what other children in that age group were doing (ie: eating, sleeping, development, etc). I have recommended this book to many pregnant friends. Out of all the books involving a 'typical' first year, this is the best I have come across! BabyCenter's pregnancy book is an absolute MUST if you are expecting!!!!!!
