5.0 out of 5 stars One of My Fav Books for Kids Hats!
The only book I like better than this one, for kids hats is Itty Bitty Hats. Really you need to own both! These 2 books have the cutest hats for babies and children and they are a blast to make. With simple personalizations, you can make these styles into 100's more!
Highly Recommend!

2.0 out of 5 stars Some Pros, BIG Con
The great thing about this book is that it has great patterns for a beginning to intermediate knitter to learn new skills while creating fun patterns with relatively good directions. Some of the patterns are cute, some of the patterns could be cute with different colors, and some of the patterns are downright weird. There are patterns for knitting in the round, designs,...

4.0 out of 5 stars Get Itty Bitty Hats instead, September 21, 2008

This book has some interesting stitches and some nice patterns. There is nothing in particular *wrong* with it. However, buy "Itty-Bitty Hats: cute and cuddly caps to knit for babies and toddlers" by Susan B. Anderson instead. The babies are cuter, the colours are much nicer and the patterns far more appealing. While I have made a couple of the hats in this book, and the patterns are okay, but not brilliantly written, I have made almost all of the hats in Itty-bitty hats and found the patterns very easy to follow.

I borrowed this book from the library, and after making a couple hats from it, I have decided to buy it for myself. I love the argyle pattern, and the instructions were easy to follow. I recommend this book for someone who wants to make cute gifts for the babies in thier life.

2.0 out of 5 stars Some Pros, BIG Con, May 15, 2011

The great thing about this book is that it has great patterns for a beginning to intermediate knitter to learn new skills while creating fun patterns with relatively good directions. Some of the patterns are cute, some of the patterns could be cute with different colors, and some of the patterns are downright weird. There are patterns for knitting in the round, designs, new stitches, etc. The recommended yarns are relatively cheap, but then the finished product feels, well, relatively cheap.

The biggest con to this book is that all the patterns are basically sized for a 12 month old. And, I don't know about you, but I don't think most babies are still wearing booties at a year old. Booties are for babies who are not yet walking, since if they're walking, they need soft-soled shoes or non-slip soles. So, while the patterns for the booties are cute, most of them are useless to actually make or have worn. So if you're looking for a book to make a hat and booty set, look elsewhere. If you're looking for a book to make some cute or "original" hats, knock yourself out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute and unique hats for 6 month-2 year olds, March 8, 2011
This review is from: BabyKnits Hats & Booties: 15 Matching Sets for Noggins and Tootsies (Paperback)
If you want to knit a gift set for a little baby, this may be the book you would want to get! There are 15 different hats and 15 matching booties you can make using this book, and considering that you have so many choices for colors to use, the possibilities for the kinds of hats and booties you can make are endless! The hats in the pictures are adorable, as are the babies of course. And for an intermediate knitter like me, the patterns are pretty straightforward.

The book also contains tips and tutorials relevant to knitting these hats and booties. For example, many patterns require the use of circular or double-pointed needles. If you're not used to using those two, the instructions can be quite useful. The abbreviations used in the patterns are defined in the back, and some of the more advanced techniques are explained in depth on the same page as the pattern. I thought some of those explanations about advanced techniques to be slightly confusing. I know it's hard for a writer to be clear to all knitters, but I found it more helpful to look up the knitting technique on YouTube and watch a video demonstration of how it's done.

The other thing I think this book can improve on is to have sizes for younger babies as well. Almost all the patterns were sized for babies between 6 months and 2 years old. I was hoping for more newborn patterns, but there was only one hat pattern for 0-6 month olds. I chose another hat pattern, that was supposed to be for 12 month olds, and I changed the pattern a little to fit a newborn baby instead. My hat turned out fine, but I think adjusting patterns would be much harder for those who are new to knitting. If you want to make hats for 6 month old babies and older, this book will be fine for you. But if you want to make hats for younger babies, you will need to be good at adjusting patterns by yourself to use this book.
