3.0 out of 5 stars Quality issues
I bought this based on the good reviews I read and the fact that it was attractive. It took me, my husband and two friends about an hour to put this together. The directions are not clear. The drawer is very flimsy and we can't get it to stop squeaking when we open and close it. When we finally got it put together and moved it into place screws on one leg all popped out...

I received the crib about 1 week after purchase (Free Super Saver Shipping). The box was pretty mangled but the crib was in perfect condition. I am 37 wks along and put the crib together myself in about an 1hr (using a screw gun instead of a screw driver), much to the dismay of my DH. The drawer is pretty flimsy I plan to put items in there that won't be used very often. Also, it's probably wise not to over tighten the screws to the drawer because I think it would definitely split the wood, the directions mention that as well.

As long as you organize the parts before starting the assembly you'll be fine in getting the crib together without issue. It would be nice if the crib had casters but since it doesn't I used furniture glides so I can move it easily across the carpet. I worried about the sides not being movable but I talked to a friend who has a crib with movable sides and she said she never uses it so that got me over that hump. I purchased a crib skirt since you can see into the drawer from above/below the mattress. Also, since the top rail is wider/thicker than most "conventional" cribs I found that I couldn't attach a mobile to it, and I haven't figured out a solution to that issue yet.

Overall, I am very pleased with the purchase and would definitely recommend this crib if you are looking for a modern design.

_______

April 2011: Baby #2 is now residing in this crib and it still looks and functions just as great as it did for Baby #1. The drawer is still functioning (even w/having moved 2x since the original assembly). Baby #1 & #2 have both left teething marks on the top rail. I used a dark furniture stain marker/pen to try and "erase" the teething marks which worked pretty well. I have since attached "sticky" teething guards. Baby #3 is set to arrive this Sept. and will be moving into the crib, so I feel that we have definitely gotten our money's worth from this beautiful modern crib. Oh, and the solution I found for the mobile...the Fisher Price Rainforest Waterfall Soother attaches securely to the top rail and the kids can (when they are big enough) turn it on themselves. I still highly recommend this crib. :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Soon to be parents, July 23, 2008
This review is from: Babyletto Mercer 3 in 1 Convertible Crib with Toddler Rail, Two Tone (Baby Product)
Love this crib so far. We liked the modern look. It arrived in good shape, even though the box it came in was pretty beaten up.It took about 1 1/2 weeks to arrive from order time. My husband spent 40 minutes all together to put it together. Pretty sturdy piece. Like the drawer underneath. Found the drawer bottom to be a flimsy piece of board. Won't hold anything that would have some weight to it. Hasn't past the real test yet of holding the baby. We'll find that out in about 5 more weeks. Overall pleased with the purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best crib ever!, February 6, 2009
I absolutely love this crib. It is so sleak and stylish. It isn't too high off the ground so it looks very modern and is easy to set your baby down into it. The drawer is very handy when storing crib sheets and blankets. The drawer allows easy access to stored away items. The wood is very nice and assembly was very easy as well. The only thing I recommend is that you have a bed skirt, or else you will see straight into the drawer, but I do not find that a downside at all. I would recommend this crib to anyone, and I would definitely buy it again!

I'm 7 months pregnant and haven't actually used it yet but we put it together and it's really cool looking. The only thing you need to know is that it runs slightly smaller than most cribs. I was intent on using an organic mattress but tried 2 different ones that were 52" long and found that they were too big and didn't fit. So, I had to go with a Simmons Mattress that is about 51" long. It fits perfectly but it was a struggle trying to find a mattress that fit. Simmons apparently works the best. As long as you're prepared for that, you should be happy with the crib!

4.0 out of 5 stars great deal on an eco-friendly crib that is modern and beautiful, December 7, 2010
This review is from: Babyletto Mercer 3 in 1 Convertible Crib with Toddler Rail, Two Tone (Baby Product)
We love this crib! It is beautiful, it is modern, and most importantly it is safe! I really wanted a crib made with safe eco-friendly materials that wasn't coated in toxic chemicals and searched high and low before deciding on this one. It was surprisingly easy to assemble, my wife and I are both very petite women and we put it together without a problem. It looks even more beautiful in person and is a great deal for the quality of the product. The drawer is just the perfect size to hold blankies and burp cloths or bed linens so it doesn't matter that it isn't the thickest material on the bottom of it since it can't hold much anyway in terms of heavy items. The only reason I don't give this crib 5 stars is because you NEED a crib skirt in order to use this crib in the highest position for the mattress, otherwise you can see everything you have in the drawer through the slats. Also, it is difficult to tie on a bumper because the corners are so wide, the strings can't reach around so you have to make adjustments for that (simple enough with extra ribbon, but still, an inconvenience I hadn't anticipated). FYI - this crib will not fit in a standard doorway, so assemble it in the room you will be using it in or you'll have to take it apart and reassemble it. Most cribs are too wide to fit through a door also, but we decided to move the crib into our bedroom for a few months after we had some issues with our bassinet and we had to take the whole thing apart to move it so really think about where your baby will be sleeping before you put it together and save the directions in case you end up moving and needing to take it apart again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Modern crib with storage, March 7, 2011

This crib arrived in a bit of a dinged up box but thankfully none of the crib was the slightest bit damaged. My husband assembled it alone in about an hour. I was thrilled with the final product. It looks great and is very sturdy. I love the low profile - it is much easier for me, as a shorter mum (5'1") to reach my son. Also, as we were replacing an older crib, my son is approaching the age when he may attempt to leave his crib without permission and I like that he is closer to the ground if he does manage an escape. It comes with the toddler rail so transitioning to the toddler bed will be a breeze. The drawer is very stable and pretty decent in size. Overall, this crib is stylish, safe and functional.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great duplicate for more expensive options, March 6, 2011

This review is from: Babyletto Mercer 3 in 1 Convertible Crib with Toddler Rail, Two Tone (Baby Product)
I've owned this crib for 21 months, and would highly recommend it for purchase. I purchased it primarily because it so closely resembles some more expensive modern cribs in style and function. The coordinating furniture from this company does not have the same good look. Linens from Pixel Organics work very well with the crib- especially the sheet size and bed skirt (which you will need when the mattress is elevated. It is difficult to safely affix a crib bumper to this crib, but you need one for such a short time, that it does not take away from the overall appeal of the crib. I am 5' 9" and it is quite a lean to put my 25 pound daughter into the lowest setting. She is tall, though, and there is still room for her to grow before we have to convert to the toddler bed (at 32" tall, the top rail is still higher than chest height on her). Overall, with the Pixel Organics bedding, this was the best purchase I've made for our nursery!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this crib!, September 25, 2010

This review is from: Babyletto Mercer 3 in 1 Convertible Crib with Toddler Rail, Two Tone (Baby Product)
This is a gorgeous, unique and modern crib without the insane price tag. I wanted a crib that was modern looking, functional...without breaking the bank. This crib fits the bill.

Also I am 5'1" and find that this crib is the perfect size. It comes up to just above my waist. It is much easier for me to get my son in and out of than standard cribs. And I love the drawer underneath for storage. The perfect place to put crib sheets!

As a note, I read other reviews and made sure to get a mattress that fit. It does run a little smaller than other cribs, so be careful with that. And the bumper that I have doesn't fit snug around the crib (it is because it is a little smaller). I am ok with that because I took the bumper out anyway. My son would put his face up against it, and it would get me nervous. Lastly, the top of the rail is thick - so if you are going to get a mobile, make sure you get one that straps on (that is true with any crib that has a thicker top).

Overall, I love this crib and couldn't be happier!

4.0 out of 5 stars Looks Fabulous, Some Pieces Could Be More Solid, December 17, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Babyletto Mercer 3 in 1 Convertible Crib with Toddler Rail, Two Tone (Baby Product)
Item is very heavy in the box. Being 7 months pregnant when it arrived, (it was left on the porch when I wasn't at home), I was not able to lift or drag it over the threshold and into the house. Because the front and back crib panels are a few inches off the ground, you will need two people to put this together. It took my husband and I about 2 hours, mainly because we were trying very hard not to scratch anything, but a couple of the directions were a little off. It really wasn't hard to put together, though. The worst part is the safety stickers all over one of the brown panels - we still haven't gotten those off. Be sure to take them off before you start assembling - it will be easier on you that way. Also, the instructions say not to use a power screwdriver, but we did, carefully & on the lowest setting, and that saved a ton of time and did not split or damage anything.

The wood is a little soft. I imagine it will scratch and ding very easily. All four panels have marks you can see where each vertical rail was nailed to the top piece - the directions try to help you position those pieces so you won't see the marks. They are tiny enough, and they were painted over, so they didn't bother me. The drawer pieces are very flimsy, other than the front. Besides that, the crib seems very sturdy once assembled.

I liked that it came with a toddler rail and has multiple positions for the mattress. The best part is the style. It is just very difficult to find modern baby furniture, and when you do, it's very expensive. We bought this with the Baby Italia Scandi dresser, and they look great together.

If you have modern sensibilities, you won't want to buy a crib skirt - sorry - you are going to have to with this crib, or you will see a gaping hole and everything in the bottom drawer. Find a straight skirt or one with a single pleat instead of ruffles; it won't detract from the minimalist look of this lovely crib.

Searched several sites for rhis crib. Even went to Babies R Us.com, but wanted to charge an extra 100.00 just for shipping. Thank goodness for Amazon's free shipping. Took about an 75 minutes to put together. Beautiful overall and love it.
