5.0 out of 5 stars The best reggae group of time
this cd ranks up there with earth crisis and true democracy as their best work. This isnt no ub40, this group has substance check out save black music, not the king james version and blessed is the man. Plus the ballads dont be afraid and love walks out are crucial. David Hinds is at his lyrical best on this cd, if you want to hear the best i recommend this cd.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a Good Choice
This is an ok Steel Pulse album. The band has gone from a roots style, to a typical 80's music style where you hear the electronic drums, and the overdone synth sounds that wreck the music. The songs Save Black Music, Sugar Daddy, Kick That Habit, and Love Walks Out are the only songs worth listening to. Buy this album only if your familiar with reggae and Steel Pulse...

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a hardcore reggae listener, May 25, 2006

But I do listen to reggae. Mainly to artists like Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Steel Pulse. I enjoy this album very much. I especially enjoyed Save Black Music, Not King James Version and Babylon the Bandit. Steel Pulse brings the heat, whether the sound is traditional reggae music or not, I haven't a clue. But I do know these songs are inspiring and the rest of the album is good enough to warrant a sale.

Even "Love Walks Out" was a nice duet with an american artist (Gwen Guthrie I think). The only song I had little use for was "School Boy Crush".

The songs Save Black Music, Sugar Daddy, Kick That Habit, and Love Walks Out are the only songs worth listening to. Buy this album only if your familiar with reggae and Steel Pulse. Buy Handsworth Revolution, Reggae Fever, or True Democracy. Reggae Greats is also good. Those albums will show what Steel Pulse is capable of.

In order to contrast the other extrememly optimistic reviews, i have to contradict. If you are interested in Steel Pulse buy Earth Crisis, True Democracy, Sound System, Handsworth Revolution. This album is dissapointing and it just doesn't compare. In the past it seems that SP just had things to sing about and the music came out naturaly. One review says they send a strong cultural message, the third track is about having a crush on your teacher. It seems like they are forcing it. Also there is just too much synthesising, and electric guitar solo's. Its not a bad album and some my like it. You might want to listen to it a little before you buy it. Download songspy or limewire now that napsters gone. I can only give it two stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent album with a strong cultural message, November 7, 1999
This review is from: Babylon the Bandit (Audio CD)
I have been listening to reggae music for past 13 years and Babylon The Bandit by Steel Pulse is by far one of the best reggae album with a strong cultural message; Steel Pulse has done their homework on the Afrikan heritage. I highly recommend it to all root-reggae listeners.

1.0 out of 5 stars Stupid and racist, March 11, 2007
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Babylon the Bandit (Audio CD)
I thought True Democracy was one of the best reggae albums I've ever heard. This one fails horribly. Fluffy 80's synth pop with obnoxious anti-white lyrics. Not King James Version is one of the stupidest songs I've ever heard
