More Brilliant Episodes from the 5th Season of Babylon Five, August 6, 2001
This review is from: Babylon 5 - Phoenix Rising / The Ragged Edge [VHS] (VHS Tape)
"Phoenix Rising" concludes the story arc begun in "Tragedy of Telepaths". President Sheridan (Bruce Boxleitner) and Captain Lochley (Tracy Scoggins) stall for time hoping to avert a bloody confrontation between Bester (Walter Koenig) and his bloodhound team of Psi Corps cops and Byron's (Robin Atkin Downes) rogue telepath colony. The tragic ending foreshadows a possible conflict between Psi Corps and the rogue telegraphs who've accepted Byron's leadership. And we see that all is not psychologically well with Michael Garibaldi (Jerry Doyle). In "Ragged Edge" G'Kar (Andreas Katsulas) returns to Babylon 5 with Londo Mollari (Peter Jurasik), unexpectedly finding that he has become a prophet worthy of veneration by his fellow Narns. And much to his dismay, he learns that his book has been published on Narn as "The Book of G'Kar", instantly becoming a religious bestseller. Meanwhile Garibaldi is sent on a mission to the Drazi home world, hoping to rescue a human pilot who has survived the latest raid by mysterious starships on interstellar shipping lanes. Without divulging further details, I will say that the episode draws to a close with Sheridan and Delenn (Mira Furlan) realizing who is behind these raids. Again, both episodes are replete with the fine writing and acting I've come to expect from series creator J. Michael Straczynski and the "Babylon 5" cast. Anyone hoping to see intelligent, first rate drama that is also great science fiction television won't be disappointed after watching these "Babylon 5" episodes.
