5.0 out of 5 stars I did not cry watching Titanic - but I did so watching SiL.
There has never been a series like Babylon 5 - and probably there will never be another, as long as I live. I was deeply affected by the story and the characters. A story of light and dark, joy and pain, love and hate - all in a scifi series. Not a small wonder, rather a great one, I think. Four seasons of B 5 were great. The fifth was a mess, with some exceptions...

1.0 out of 5 stars the mother of all cop outs
Anybody buying this video expecting to find out what happened in the events shown in War without end is going to be disappointed. Other than knowing they survive we are told nothing. That JMS didn't complete his own story in the five series is disappointing, but to not even make the effort is really annoying.
Sheridan was given a twenty year extension on his life...

This review is from: Babylon 5 - Season 5 - Objects at Rest/Sleeping in Light [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The fifth was a mess, with some exceptions. Perhaps it is of symbolic value that the last episode was produced at the end of season 4 but broadcast at the end of season 5. One thinks of a time long lost and forgotten, of dreams long gone watching Sleeping in Light. It's wonderful, and it hurts. I did not cry when I watched Titanic. I did not cry watching E.T. But I cried at the parting of Sheridan and the fiery demise of the space station. It was sad, but in a strangely positive way I cannot describe. It was a feeling that I was on my own now but that I grew stronger out of it. In fact, Sleeping in Light has't got a proper story. But it works. It changed me deeply.

5.0 out of 5 stars Devastating, February 26, 2001

This review is from: Babylon 5 - Season 5 - Objects at Rest/Sleeping in Light [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Okay, how about this for a reccomendation? I have seen most of the Babylon 5 series eight or nine times through, at least. I have only seen Sleeping in Light four times since it first aired over two years ago. Why? Because in this episode JMS creates a devastatingly moving portrait of Sheridan's final days that is just spectacular and my not watching it is a result of being that deeply affected by it. I showed this to a friend who never saw the show, she loved it. It reaches out to anyone who has ever lost a loved one and especially to the fans who knew this day was coming and never wanted to see it, but could not turn away. Series finales are usually not this powerful or tie up everything so well, but JMS performs this task excellently.

Not to mention you will never look at the sunrise the same way again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sleeping in Light is one of televisions finest hours., September 19, 1999

While Objects at Rest was a very good episode, Sleeping in Light was beautiful, and sad, and the music was perfect. I bought this on Laserdisc, and bought the CD too. It doesn't get any better than this. Listening to the CD in the car, I can see the scenes, and it still affects me. Sleeping in Light is *that* powerful, and stays with you. Babylon 5 was an incredible story!

No television show has ever affected me the way Babylon 5 has, and the final episode was pure art. I've probably watched it a hundred times since it originally aired, and every single time it has the same effect. The combination of exceptional acting talent, J. Michael Straczynski's pen and Christopher Franke's moving score were sheer brilliance. (Did anyone else cry? I STILL do.) In all, a fitting and beautiful end to a landmark series. We probaly won't see anything like it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars OH WHY DID THIS HAVE TO END ! ! ! ! ! !, August 8, 2000
This review is from: Babylon 5 - Season 5 - Objects at Rest/Sleeping in Light [VHS] (VHS Tape)
What can I say about Sleeping in the light except that this Scifi Classic should be in the TV series hall of fame!!! I must admit that Im a real cry baby so it wasnt hard for the waterworks to start flooding when we had to say GOODBYE, I wont bore you with the details but this series had a profound effect on me, dare I say a spiritual one?? (nah not that dramatic!!!but pretty darn close!!)

Weepies like this should be given to prisoners and people with anger management problems, especially if they are already familiar with the B5 series!! I reckon theyd be crying like Niagra falls, ready to get in touch with their more sensitive sides, who knows what rehabilitative effects this beautifully done finale to the B5 series could do!!!!!

I doubt that I will ever forget this sadly wonderful end to this brilliant series, and I will have to encourage anyone and everyone who have never seen Babylon 5 to go out rent buy or borrow a copy of the entire 5year series it is definately worthwhile, all you Trekkies out there who may feel disloyal, dont the B5 universe is so completely different that you will appreciate both wonderful Scifi creations without guilt.

To echo bresia GOODBYE AND THANKYOU SO MUCH J. MICHAEL STRACZYNSKI! I will looking droolingly forward to any future endeavours that your creative mind will share with this unworthy individual, please never stop or I might start crying again!!!

Simply beautiful and yet sad, I didnt want to watch this last episode because I didnt want to say goodbye, it hurt to see these wonderful characters go, they had become dearly loved friends, (yes even Londo! )so it was with great reluctance that I watched one of my favourite shows end.

This finale to the B5 series is about saying goodbye, it is told giving us a chance to make our own farewells reflecting on the many hours of enjoyment that the B5 crew have given us, we see a future that has moved on, as it should, (but you cant help grieving! )

I will miss this wonderful series, a beautiful end and a tribute to this scifi classic, it will stay with me forever (My eyes are starting to blur where is the damn tissues! )I urge any scifi/B5 virgins out there to watch this excellent series! you will understand why this show has a strong and loyal following. BABYLON 5 FOREVER!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Magificent Conclusion to a Profound Series, December 6, 1999

Through the Babylon 5 years, we have seen the range of emotions rarely seen in a miniseries that has lasted this long. The conclusion, "Sleeping in Light" is without a doubt a soul wrenching exploration of love, dedication, and the inevitability of prophecy. The time span between the previous episode and this conclusion leaves many unanswered questions, but it appears that everything must have turned out OK. To see this episode in isolation may not be a good idea, but with a little background, it can be enjoyed by anyone who has not seen the whole series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful Conclusion to My Favorite TV Show, February 14, 2002

This review is from: Babylon 5 - Season 5 - Objects at Rest/Sleeping in Light [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This tape contains the last two episodes ever of Babylon 5. In "Objects at Rest," change is coming to the station. Franklin is leaving for Earth and his new job, Garibaldi is leaving for Mars, and Sheridan and Delenn leave for the new Alliance headquarters on Minbar. But all does not go smoothly as Lennier makes a huge mistake and Londo arrives with a suspicious gift for Delenn's baby.

"Sleeping in the Light" tells the story of Sheridan's last few days. Realizing that his time is up, he sends for his dear friends and reminisces before heading into space for one last flight.

While these two episodes don't tie up all the loose ends (In fact, they raise some questions.), they are a powerful conclusion to this series. I've watched them several times, and I've been moved by the emotions so excellently captured by everyone involved. JMS's scripts are some of his best, and the acting is flawless.

Over the run of the series, I had come to care for these characters as friends. It was sad to see their story end. And while it may not have had the closure I normally like, there is enough closure for a feeling of completion. These two top-notch hours of television will move any fan of the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beutiful, March 30, 2000
By
This review is from: Babylon 5 - Season 5 - Objects at Rest/Sleeping in Light [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The last episode of the show was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. I cried so much, it was so sad.......yet it was also so very uplifting. I left the tv feeling elated, joyful, like while one story has ended, another one has begun. In most shows the last episode wraps everything up so that there's nothing left in the characters lives. Sleeping in Light had closer, and yet was open ended, letting the viewer see that life has not ended, there is always something left. B5 fans should get this if they've not yet seen it, it's the perfect ending for the best, most unique, show I've ever seen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great conclusion, November 5, 1999
This review is from: Babylon 5 - Season 5 - Objects at Rest/Sleeping in Light [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Not to repeat all the reviews that have preceded mine, but I thought both episodes were well done. It is sad to get so involved with television shows and characters, but having these people in your home for five years, they almost become "part of the family." Haven't had a feeling of closure to a tv show since M*A*S*H's finale. Recommend this video to B5 fans.
