5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Score - B5 Fan or Not, November 30, 2005

This review is from: Babylon 5: Sleeping in Light (Audio CD)
This is excellent atmosphere. It is very moving and relaxing. When juxtaposed to the climactic ending of the series, it makes the hair stand on the back of your neck.

The marketplace seller holding a $109 price tag over a used copy is either an over zealous fan or... you make the call. This, and all available B5 soundtracks, can be ordered from Christopher Franke's Entertainment company Sonic Images Entertainment, Inc. for $11.56 including shipping at [...]. Here the creator get's his compensation.

If Amazon actually stocked this item, I wouldn't be here saying this. I want people to enjoy this wonderful album, just don't over pay some huckster and leave Franke hangin'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sleeping in Light - One moment of perfect Beauty, November 24, 1999
This review is from: Babylon 5: Sleeping in Light (Audio CD)
This is one of the finest CD's in the Babylon 5 episodic series and in my opinion some of the best music Christopher Franke has ever written

The score has a much darker overtone than much of the previous incidental music, and in some ways is presented almost as a requiem mass for the series. The whole piece is deeply moving and emotional. For those of us who have seen the episode Sleeping in Light the poignant beauty is perfectly captured in such passages as Good Night My Love, when Sheridan says his final farewell to Delenn (which could be any of us parting with a loved one for the last time). Dying Station, which accompanies the abandoned Babylon 5 being blown up to prevent it becoming an obstacle to navigation, wrenches the heart strings. Unlike much TV and Film Soundtrack music when removed from the drama, Chris Franke's compositions work in their own right for standalone listening.

If I have one complaint, it is that at 24:40 total running time is on the short side, but the concept of this collection is to present the music as cued and sequenced from each episode with no enhancement or additional compositions. It is to be hoped Sonic Images and Chris Franke will hurry up and release the promised Volume 3 compilation album of B5 music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the Best, August 3, 2000
This review is from: Babylon 5: Sleeping in Light (Audio CD)
This is the most fitting music for an episode I've ever heard. The musical style, while dramatically differant from the series itself, is very in tune with what has come to be expected from Christopher Franke. The new cues were first introduced in Objects at Rest, the episode right before this, and were used to great effect.

Each time there is a build up, you just know *that* is the best he can do, and he tops it - every time. How much better can this music get?

Often times, when I listen to a soundtrack to television or movie, there is almost no sense of the show. When I listen to a soundtrack from the original star trek series, for example (and I am a long-time Trek fan) unless I look at the title, I have no idea what episode I'm listening to; there is nothing differant. There is nothing to tie this music to the series .... While in Sleeping in Light (and *ALL* Babylon 5 for that matter) there is a direct link between the music and what is happening on screen.

When I listen to the music, I can *SEE* what is happening in the back of my mind ... and at the end, with the final buildup in track 5 leading to the destruction of the station - words cannot describe the feel of chills going up my spine, of ripping my heart out and leaving a feeling of loss, yet of hope for the future.

If Franke has not yet won an award for this cd, he deserves demonstrates the reasons he deserves to.
