This was my first Ingrid Weaver.
I liked the plot, woman scientist with newborn defecting with classified material, escorted by a team of special forces. I liked that her relationship with the villain, especially as described in the beginning of the book, was a little more complex than, "He did a bad, bad thing." The hero was likeable, and I had no objections to the heroine. (D*mned with faint praise, I know). The humorous interactions between the hero and his team were OK, if a little forced. And I thought the surprise midway through was obviously coming, but subtly done.
But it was really obvious that this setting was a reach for the author. The female lead has been living in Russia since she was four, and the team infiltrates to retrieve her. Yet, there is no foreign atmosphere to this book. NONE. Yes, she learned English as a child, but after twenty years in Russia, during the most stressful time of her life, not a single word or even thought was anything but good ol' USA. The same holds true for the science. I am not expecting a college-level lecture on molecular chemistry, but how about a sprinkling from the Discovery Channel? I couldn't help but think if Weaver had spent even two hours at the library or on the Internet, she could have written a couple of phrases, an occasional word, that would have added some needed flavor to this story.
I am going to try another by this author, but I will be looking for a less adventurous plot, as I expect she will handle that better.

This review is from: Her Baby's Bodyguard (Silhouette Romantic Suspense) (Mass Market Paperback)
I was thoroughly impressed. I received it in the proper time, along with every other item I ordered at the time.
