Good to see Babys back in print.,
This review is from: The Baby's/Broken Heart (Audio CD)
This CD contains the first two Babys albums. The first album has a raw feel to it, which I like, But I wish it was recorded better The first 5 cuts are the strongest ones. The second album, Broken Heart, has a much more polished sound to it with string overdubs added to some songs, but is their best album in my opinion. The big hit, "Isn't It Time", "Wrong or Right", "A Piece of the Action", and the title cut, "Broken Heart" are good listens.
I uploaded an image of the front cover because Amazon's image is of the back cover.

The first alblum leaves something to be desired as far as production, but the songs are great! Not being a producer I don 't know if there is a fix to that when remastering digital. I could go into a long story of why they let the pro. go as it did ...sometimes your trusting the wrong people..etc. etc...Broken Heart was ,is a fine alblum. When you look you find that the best was the original.[as with anything in life,in this case it is the band members] Saw john waite at a bar in austin...did very well for live music and i really liked his ignition alblum before i got burnt out on it . The Best ...though.....you never burn out on ......It just gets better! B.Heart...part of my Vision.... of The Golden Mile

I bought these two albums (remember those) way back when they came out because they were on sale. They turned out to be two of my favorites from a very large collection of records. After I went to collecting cd's (also growing in numbers as well)I had a difficult time finding these. It was music to my ears when I found this compilation of the first two Babys albums. They still sound good and the remastering is fantastic. You can clearly hear a difference in recording and performing and overall sound between the two but that just shows the maturity of a growing band. After these two albums keyboardist/guitarist Micheal Corby would leave and the band would record three more great albums with two new guys. The first two releases however, are really good and have a good mix of ballads and rockers. The song "looking for love" starts off the disc with some powerful drumming and then a great guitar intro.I'm not going to analyze each tune because I like them all. They were only around for 5 albums but these British musicians made some memorable music and all went on to have great careers after wards in some big bands. This compilation of the early days is a nice snapshot of a band trying to find they're footing as writers and the maturity between the first and second album is remarkable.

I just purchased this release. So glad to see in this form. Tom Waite's vocals are so fresh on the first two releases, as well as Head First.
This remastered release sounds amazing. This is rock in its pure form along with some ballads. Take advantage of this release while it is still available. They go out of print very quickly. I got Head First when was remastered...now it is costly to buy, if you can find it. *****5 on this one. |
