How to raise a schitzophrenic baby...,
By
This review is from: Baby's First Lullabies (Audio CD)
Flow is everything, which apparently the creators of this CD forgot about. When I think of a lullaby CD, I think of nice, relaxing music that you can have on in the background while you rock your child to sleep for the night. Am I wrong here? So, when we popped this CD in tonight (without ever listening to the CD - our mistake), the first two songs were incredibly soothing, soft and great to calm down our 4-month old. Then we hit #3 - Hush A Bye Baby. Our child woke up and thought it was playtime. The song was an upbeat (and not terribly great) rendition of the old classic. YUCK! The volume was set higher than the other songs, and added to the playtime feel. The next two songs are fine (Fur Elise and Schubert's Serenade in D Minor), but then, once again, we hit a peppy tune (another annoying vocal piece), Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Then comes the strangest piece of music on the CD - Autumn from The Four Seasons. I don't know who thought it would be a good idea to put this haunting song on a child's lullaby CD, but it is just plain creepy. A lot of harpsichord at the beginning and everything in minor tones. This should be on a Halloween CD, rather than this lullaby CD. My notes could go on, but really, the makers of this CD either didn't intent for it to be a lullaby CD at the end of the day, or they wanted to raise thousands of schitzophrenic babies. Either way, skip this CD and go for another more soothing one.

Beware of the obnoxious tracks!,
By Muzak to my Ears (Sacramento, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Baby's First Lullabies (Audio CD)
I saw this CD and thought it would be great for my daughter whom I like to expose to as much wonderful music as possible, particularly at bedtime. The first night I played it, I stayed in her room and listened to the first 2 songs - they were charming versions of some well-known classics. Then, I turned on the baby monitor and went into the other room. Suddenly, my ears were accosted by the most obnoxious, laughable sound of track 3. It is a synthesized, incredibly upbeat version of Hush A Bye Baby sung by a woman with the most grating voice. The same can be said of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Frere Jacque (tracks 6 & 11). Besides being irritating, these songs are actually LOUDER than the rest of the instrumental songs and could easily jolt a sleeping baby out of slumber. Those 3 tracks completely undermine the "Lullaby" theme. I will be burning this CD onto another CD and leaving out those 3 tracks. Had I read the reviews and seen that others had complained about these same tracks, I never would have bought it. This CD defies logic and you will be better off without it!

with so many good lullaby CDs, why buy this?,

YUCK. The songs are great, but some are loud, some are quiet, some pretty and some are noisy. Completely inconsistent. Just about the time my baby falls asleep a loud, racous lullaby begins. YUCK.

Wonderful and Awful,

This CD has some wonderful classical guitar and orchestral pieces, very soft and soothing, but in between are these awful versions of children's songs, sung by someone who sounds like my junior high choir teacher, accompanied by a loud, squeaky synthesizer. Just when you're almost lulled to sleep, on comes this woman's voice and jolts you right out of your sleepy state. Pass on this CD. There are better ones out there.

Its a LULLABY!,
By Nic Rosenau (Minneapolis, MN USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Baby's First Lullabies (Audio CD)
A lullaby is a soothing song used to lull a child to sleep. This CD features the most annoyingly rambunctious renditions of Hush A Bye Baby (track 3), Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (track 6) and Frere Jacques (track 11) I have ever heard. (Of course, I've never before heard any rendition of Hush A Bye Baby that could be characterized as rambunctious.) These tracks are peppy, bouncy, not at all soothing. Might be good for a toddler jumping dance, but the CD is called LULLABIES, not Baby Dance Tunes. These tracks are guaranteed to wake up the soundest sleepers. They certainly won't lull anyone INTO sleep. The last track (14), When You Wish Upon a Star, isn't as annoying as the other three, but it also isn't as soothing as it should be. Strangely there are absolutely no liner notes. No indication of who this incredibly annoying vocalist is, or who performed any of the music. The remaining tracks are all instrumentals. They are acceptable renditions, but not particularly noteworthy. A major disappointment and waste of money. I would recommend Mozart Wombsong from Musical Soup instead. Soothes my little guy every time.

If ever there was a good decision you made, it was to read the reviews of this product before buying it. If you are looking for a lullaby CD for your child KEEP LOOKING. This CD is terrible! If you play the first two songs and have the volume adjusted to the soothing melody, you are thinking, 'hey this CD isn't half bad.' Then Track 3 (a ridiculously bad rendition of Rock a Bye Baby) comes on at about 350 decibels higher than the prior songs, sending you madly dashing to the CD player to turn the sound down before half the neighborhood comes banging down your door or calls the police -- not to mention the baby you were just trying to get to sleep is wailing in your ear because you were an IDIOT and bought this CD despite the horrible reviews on Amazon! And if you keep listening it will happen again and again! Fun!

Lose tracks 3, 6, and 11!!!!,

Beautiful, soothing melodies interspersed with loud, jolting, horrid vocals. The first (and only) time I played this I was nursing my peaceful baby to sleep, only to have him jolted awake by a sudden, loud singing. Tracks 1 & 2 are soothing... then 3 has you jumping out of your seat... tracks 4 and 5, soothing... 6 has the baby screaming... 7 and 8 are fine, but I held my breath (and my baby's ears) as 9 began (thinking there might be a pattern), but 9 and 10 were fine -- only to have 11 slap us in the face. If you buy this inexpensive CD, do what I did: load it into your computer, delete tracks 3, 6, and 11, and burn it on to a new CD -- now it's fine. I only regret I did not read the reviews before purchasing!! I bought a second copy as a gift for someone else -- I guess I'll save it to give to someone I don't really like...

this CD could make your kid a rap star,

If you want to turn your child off classical music forever, this CD may well do the job.
It has absolutely nothing to recommend on it. # 1, the volume fluctuates, and like ads on TV, the worst tracks are usually the loudest. # 2, many of the tracks are badly performed; ponderous, scratchy, and amateurish takes on what should be good listening, but isn't. # 3, there are 4 vocals. WARNING to all mothers: Baby might think this awful voice is you singing to him/her, and cause deep feelings of resentment, needing years of psychiatry to unravel. I am a huge believer in the importance and value in what we feed our ears. Many worry about the effects of 2nd hand smoke, I preach about the dangers of 2nd hand boom-box, and the horrors and negativity of rap music. Few things are more important than what your baby listens to, whether verbal or musical, and there are many "Adagio" recordings that are expertly performed on the market that would be a pleasure for baby's ears, an education for his mind, and a joy for his soul; this CD is to be avoided at all cost. Total playing time is 50'29 dreadful minutes.

As a first time parent I want to give my child every advantage I can. Studies have shown that playing music to your child helps to enhance their learning ability.I saw "Baby's First" cd series and as they were so affordable I decided to go ahead and buy them without hearing them first. My decision has been rewarded! The cd's are very good, and provide hours of music to stimulate my babies mind. Buy this CD today, you won't be disappointed, and neither will your youngsters! :)

Don't Buy This,
By A Customer
This review is from: Baby's First Lullabies (Audio CD)
I should have paid more attention to the reviews that said the quality of music was terrible, but I don't have much musical training and I've never been able to distinguish between performances so I thought I wouldn't notice. I was wrong. The quality of music here is VERY poor. About the only thing I got out of it was learning the titles of songs I liked already but didn't know what they were called so I can now go out and buy a much better rendition. It's cheap, but don't waste your money.
