Would this be one of the Thousand Young?,
By A Customer
This review is from: Baby's First Mythos (Board book)
Granted, not all the poetry absolutely works, but for the effort and the very concept itself, it earns 5 stars. A must forall Mythos fans and alumni of Miskatonic U. as they contemplate their future spawn, er, children. Whatever.

The idea of parodying the typical children's ABC and 123 books by illustrating them with Lovecraft's Elder Gods just tickles my funny bone. Every little snippet of writing, including the author and artist bios, is subtly clever, and the ink drawings are perfect for the subject.
The best part is...I thought I knew a bit about it, but the book actually taught me plenty I didn't know about the Lovecraft mythos. The only complaint (and a slight one at that) is the binding looks the kind that's going to crack and fall apart after not too long, which is a pity, because I'd like it to last long enough to show my own future spawn. Every Lovecraft fan should get one.

Excellent child reading for the Addams Family,

Very well done. The poems sometimes stretch a bit, but then, it's sometimes hard for find words to rhyme with Nyarlothetep or Cthulhu. The drawings, though, are wonderful. If your intention is to twist your child, much like Wednesday Addams, then this book is essential. Personally, though, I prefer to twist myself, and this book does that very well.

I wanted to like this. I really did. But ... I didn't. It's such a brilliant idea and the execution is so disappointing. The art is excellent - wonderfully creepy and Gorey-esque - but the selection of alphabetic entities seems arbitrary at best to anyone with a half-decent familiarity with Lovecraft and the "poetry" is hopeless. The little verses show a real tin ear for rhyme and meter, and don't even attempt to stick to a consistent stanza form throughout (in contrast to Gorey, whose little poems were always as beautifully crafted as his drawings). A disappointment.

The ABC's of the Mythos,

This is funny stuff. It gave me a real chuckle.
The new edition with the hard pages is fantastic. I use this with the 'Call of Cthulhu' roleplay game. I recommend it for anyone who is in to the mythos.

This book is very cool, especially if you are into the mythos. Not meant for children, I did however buy this for my son. It is very cute, a little scary, and the rhymes are great, though some are a little stretched, but its hard to rhyme some of those names. We like the numbers and counting at the end of the book as well.

My husband is a Lovecraft nut...so when I found this book for him to read our 6 month old daughter I knew he'd flipout. A is for Azathoth... What does it all mean? I'm not nerdy enough to know, but for those that do, I think this is a diamond in the rough of children's books. My one suggestion, make the font easier to read next time around! The fancy, curly script was clearly picked for the Lovecraft genre, but a big blocky print would've made it more fun for baby to learn and easier on momma and poppa's already tired eyes.

This is the best children's book ever. I feel comforted by the fact that my child will be able to tell the old ones apart and maybe, just maybe, have some extra protection from things that go bump in the night.
Aside from that, the book illustrations are wonderfully done. They are both artful and magical. The pithy sayings under each drawing are memorable and worthy of a chuckle or a raised brow. I'm truly impressed with the artistry and love that obviously went into making this book a reality. The only drawback is the binding; it is a little weak. However it has held up over many readings so maybe it feels more weak than it is.
