I am the mother of five and this book was my oldest child's favorite (she's 12 now) and it's my youngest child's favorite, too. We have bought several copies over the year because they've been loved to death. It's simplicity and the clear photographs are it's best features and the toddler could be either a boy or girl, though it's probably the latter. I'm just delighted that it's still on the market after all these years. You won't find a better value. My sixteen-month-old is absolutely enamored with it.

This is a wonderful gem of a book. Our daughter (now 4) got one as a baby gift. We call it "The little girl" book (though the child in the pictures might be male or female). "The little girl" captivated my daughter with her table behaviour, getting dressed, playing, etc. The book is very well photographed, with cheery, Scandinavian-style clothes and furnishings. Each page has one big theme word at the top of the page, and several additional words. It is so charming! ... a teeny cube-like board book. Somehow we misplaced my daughter's precious copy, and now that we have a new infant, I have frantically tried to locate another copy - but alas, it is out of print. (A web search will show, however, that it appears on virtually every list of "best books for children" - obviously everyone loves it). So.... please o please, can the publisher print it again? I promise to buy 10 copies!!!!

This is a very simple first word book for young toddlers. There is one picture to a page with the word underneath. It is an older book so the pictures are 1970s-ish but I found it to be very helpful when my daughter was beginning to speak. The book is a nice little board book and perfect to travel with. I would recommend to others.

This was an excellent first words book and I taught my daughter to read at the age of two with it. She is light years ahead of her classmates with charecter and number recognition now, and has skipped a grade.

This book has excellent simple photos and clear text identifying common objects in a child's small world.

It is a pity this book is out of print. It is worth searching out.
