Keeping the memories,

I just got this journal for keeping the memories of this very precious first year for my daughter. It is a good companion for scrapbooking. You can look back and remember the milestones and when they actually happened. I like having space for journaling, however, this journal almost doesn't give you enough space sometimes. There is no questions to help you think of things to journal about. There is however alot of little tidbits about Physical, Cognitive and Social growth that your baby will experience this year posted at EACH day...a bit more than I wanted actually. I have books about stuff like that already. I would have rather had a bit more space to write my own stuff. Another thing I didn't care for was the cover, it is not very attractive. Looking back now, I should have gotten "Cradle the Thought, by Tracy Nelson" which I found LATER online.

a perfect companion to The Pregnancy Journal,

I received The Pregnancy Journal as a shower gift from my sister and was delighted to find shortly after the birth of my son, this companion journal. As was with the author's previous work, The Pregnancy Journal, the Baby's First Year Journal is a day-to-day "almanac" of what happens developmentally (sooner or later), in the physical, cognitive and social-emotional aspects of your infant's first year. I love this journal, as I'm the type who likes to have alot of information at my fingertips, and this Journal is text-laden. I also enjoy the delightful "fillers" at the bottom of each page containing a-quote-a-day on childhood by famous people, as well as suggested play activities and other important pieces of information for parents to be aware of, such as safety, nutrition, and healthy habits. Blank columns interspersed throughout gives me the opportunity to jot down my son's "milestones" when I sit down with the Journal. There is also a small open pocket in the back cover for keepsakes. This was a very carefully thought-out and very well-executed project by Dr. Christine Harris. I hope Dr. Harris and her editor has plans for a follow up "Toddler Years and Beyond Journal".

Not a journal,

I recently purchased this book and was disappointed when I got it. In the editorial review it says that you can record your little ones accomplishments. There is a tiny little note section and the only thing that actually personalized the book is you putting in the dates, from birth date through the first year. As a first time mom I want to record everything my son does not see how he is lacking behind at something. This book is a book for a parent that wants to make sure there child is right on time with everything, and as most parents know every child does things at their own pace. I do not recommend this book at all.

This is now my official shower present,

so if you know me and are pregnant, don't buy it - I'll be getting it for you! I love this journal and write in mine every few days, making notes on the interesting or silly things my son is doing, new foods he's trying, new words he's saying, and everything else he's up to. If you're not ordinarily a journal or diary keeper, the structure of having a book like this to write in my help you create a wonderful momento for your child - when he or she is old enough to read, that is.

This is a nice book for a first time mom in those very early weeks when she is probably very nervous and unsure and might want a neutral source to refer to instead of listening to all the advice of well-meaning friends & family. After the first few months I rarely looked at it aqain though.

Not really a journal,

This book should not be called a journal as there is very little space for writing or personalization. It is basically an academic child development textbook that has been broken down into daily reading segments. I found that the segments were very repetitive and not that precise (stating things like "sometime between week 3 and week 15, your baby should be able to do..."). Overall, it was not that helpful for recording memories or learning the developmental stages of my baby's life.

Baby's First Year Journal is full of fun and interesting facts. This book covers the cognitive, social and physical growth of your baby on a daily basis, enabling new parents to enjoy their baby's development all the more. Quick and easy reading is a must for the busy parent... I definitely recommend this book!

After using and loving the Pregnancy journal, I am slightly disappointed in the First Year Journal. The same information is repeated on many of the days. My baby is now 3 1/2 months old and I find myself writing in the journal but not even bothering to read the published information most days. However, the spiral binding and hard cover are nice, and it will be a nice keepsake for my baby when she gets older.

Educational and Easy to Keep Up With,

When I was pregnant, I found the task of keeping up with a blank journal to be overwhelming. I ended up abandoning it after 10 weeks and have regretted it since. So when it came to keeping a record of my baby's milestones and development I quickly picked up this book. It provides great information that educates parents as to the typical cognitive, social, and psychomotor changes that babies go through. My husband and I both enjoy reading this information. It helps us to recognize and be on the look out for changes in our baby. I love how it offers blank lines for notes every few days. This format encourages me to write down the subtle changes I see in my baby without feeling the need to be too wordy. I love this journal and only wish that I had picked up the pregnancy one as well.

I love this series. It's light reading, but has enough information. As a new mom, you don't always have the time to read a book this size, but its broken up into day to day reads, so you can either read one day per day or on week at a time. I got this as gifts for all my friends.
