5.0 out of 5 stars mom's opinion March 26, 2011
By mom
I got this DVD as a baby shower gift and just got it for a pregnant friend of mine as well. For me and my husband the DVD was the perfect starter kit. We were clueless about baby care and had no idea about how to prepare our home. Some of the books made us even more anxious. So finding this DVD was a big relief. We loved the experts because they are down to earth and deliver clear answers to basically all the questions we had. They finally do not make the whole parenting experience sound like a complicated scientific experiment. The best part is the parents because of their honesty. Being a fresh parent is fantastic but for sure not rosy all the time. Just hearing that from others and how they moved on helped us so much. This is a great guide that helped us with all the practical questions and the emotional side of being a parent as well.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't Waste Your Time or Money February 27, 2011

First complaint: Not enough video demonstrations. If you're looking to learn how to change a diaper (there's maybe a 15 sec video of that) or how to breastfeed, don't look here. They do TALK about breastfeeding, but when describing the different positions and how to get the baby to latch on, they show a static line-drawing on the screen and simply talk about it, instead of having a video demonstration by an actual mother and baby (it's like they wanted to make the DVD "G-rated," for whatever weird reason, instead of being useful).

Second complaint: Not enough factual content. If you've read any baby books, even just one, you know 95% of what's in this DVD.

Third complaint: Terrible production values and poor choice of health care professionals. The three professionals who made up the majority of the video were just, simply, not good. The only worthwhile chapter in the DVD had two other professionals (Dr. Moritz and Dr. Kerner) discussing what women could expect post-partum (I admit, that chapter was quite good; no other chapter was).

Overall, skip this DVD and find something else.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this DVD August 30, 2010

We love this DVD. It has detailed information on what I should expect as a new dad. My wife really felt prepared and ready for our baby boy. Seeing these parents and their babies was so reassuring. You could sense that the DVD has been done by parents who had the same questions that we had and you sometimes feel too embarrassed to ask. This really is the most honest and comprehensive and fun to watch baby guide we could find.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good Summary, but you'll need more September 14, 2011

This DVD is helpful, but it depends on what you are using it for. I don't recommend this as a substitute for an actual class. It's great as a summary BEFORE you take a newborn care class or as a refresher after you've taken the class. Suck it up and take a class through a local hospital and buy the Baby Whisperer book. Our local hospital had the option of taking the newborn care class in one day, and it included the breast feeding class. The classes were especially great for first time parents who have never handled an infant or did many, many years ago. The classes used DVDs made by InJoy. We read the Baby Whisperer book after taking the class and it really made everything come together and make sense. The book provided further details on the daily life of the baby and super helpful procedures parents should take to make the baby's life perfect. The bottom line is, do what is best for your baby by educating yourself to the fullest.

5.0 out of 5 stars baby tips September 7, 2011
By Ellen
My friend recommended this dvd as a baby shower gift and my husband and I absolutely love it!

I like that the real people and real experts offer their honest opinion on the upcoming months. The facts and tips are very useful and comforting. The dvd is better than any books we have read as it is very easy to understand and informative. I particularly enjoy watching this dvd with my husband together, after dinner, before bed and on the weekends. My husband knows now what my body will go through and how he can help once the baby is home. Seeing these parents make me feel confident. It's also soothing to know what to expect. I feel ready for the baby.
