I emailed Baby's Only about it and asked them about constipation and if their formula contains anything that would actual help NOT cause constipation.

I spoke with the company about this and they told me this formula is 82% casein and 18% whey. They even agreed this is mimicking cows milk and not breast milk. They said they had to do this because they could not find an organic whey source.

No wonder its so thick and hard to digest. This amount of casein is way to hard to break down. Casein at that level is not natural for a baby's system to digest. Just look at all the babies with constipation on this formula.

Breast milk composition of casein to whey ratio is 30:70. Big difference.

Also regarding aresenic from the brown rice syrup, they said there is still arsenic in the formula, just not enough to be above the allowable FDA levels. WTF?

World health says any amount of arsenic for an infant is too much and causes DNA changes which can cause cancer. Research it. What is considered detectable does not mean its safe. All about marketing here.

Baby's Only is the only formula using brown rice syrup as lactose and for good reason. Its not a good idea.

So what do I recommend if not Baby's Only? I am a mom who has been up hours researching what is best for my baby since we had latch issues and needed to supplement. I was sick over what was in commercial non organic and organic formulas. I considered making it myself using Weston Price recipe, but then found the best solution hands down.

Holle organic milk stage 1 if you want cow based or Holle organic goat milk from 6 months if you prefer goat milk - made in Germany! :)

If you want a 100% organic - all natural formula from a free range Demeter farm with no chemical additives, no unnecessary ingredients, and no DHA (sourced from GMO's, and harms gut flora) then use Holle.

I read about this product off of a Food Inc. post regarding organic baby formula, and it seemed across the board that this was the best brand. Don't let the "toddler formula" fool you. The company puts that on their to encourage breastfeeding in babies. Every heard of a company discouraging product use?! Me either! It is perfectly safe and healthy for your infant, as not all of us are able to breastfeed, it is a great second choice...or first!

I choose this rating for the following reasons:
1. It's the best formula out there. There have been studies on all the different organic formulas, how they are made, and how each ingredient is derived. This formula won the competition. For that I give it 5 stars.
2. Like many others have said, it can constipate a baby. I was so upset when I found out this formula constipated my baby. I couldn't breastfeed for many reasons out of my control, and I was a very upset mother because of it, so I was determined to find the best. And this was it. It broke my heart when it didn't work for us. I even took a break from it, went back to it to see if the formula was the actual cause of the constipation, and yes, it was. My baby was constipated again. For this, I give it 2 stars.
3. I emailed Baby's Only about it and asked them about constipation and if their formula contains anything that would actual help NOT cause constipation. Although they responded quickly and thoroughly, I was disappointed that they couldn't determine what was causing the constipation (is it the brown rice syrup?). I figured with all the complaints, they would have done a study by now. For this I give it 2 stars.

So I guess I averaged it at a 3, to be fair.

This formula is the only one my baby loves.
I had to switch to formula to supplement, now my baby drinks this formula for all meals.
But listen folks - it will cause constipation if you don't measure it out right.

It says on the can - measure One Unpacked Level scoop (8.5 g) for every 2 oz of water.
GET OUT YOUR SCALE.... set it to Grams
My unpacked level scoop was different than what my hubs did, and it was different every time I did it.
I was WAY over feeding my baby. Even if its just One gram over for each scoop - think about that added up over a 24 hour period!
3 scoops per 6 oz bottle, 6 bottles a day... That's almost a whole bottle's worth more per day of formula.
Yea - That's gonna constipate you - and its also too many calories! (cute little chunky monkey right??)
When measured out correctly - this formula is great.
My baby loves it, he doesn't get constipation from it anymore, and I feel confident that my baby is getting the next best thing to breast milk.
I would highly recommend this to anyone - but you have to administer it correctly! :)

My daughter has no problem with the occasional bottle if this if I haven't pumped enough. Good ingredients and evidently, great taste.

This is NOT Hipp (UK) or Holle (German/Swiss) organic formula! Be aware of what you are ordering as searches for Hipp and Holle are now leading to Baby's Only since Amazon took Hipp and Holle off their site (rumor has it it is due to the American formula makers protesting!). Baby's Only is just plain old US-made "organic" formula which still contains yukky products. My baby got constipation within two days of switching from Similac to Baby's Only. I am certain it is better than non-organic formula in some way, but not nearly as beneficial, safe and delicious as Hipp and Holle, both of which can be ordered through UK and European grocers.
