I got this book to document the first year of my baby daughter's life. For that purpose, it looks like it will be wonderful. Using the analogy of car maintenance records, it takes you through the first year of baby's life. The first few pages are for recording vital statistics like birth weight and length, as well as some reflections on how you felt at the birth and who was in attendance. The bulk of the book is blank pages, one for each week, on which you can place events, accomplishments, discoveries, and milestones in your baby's growth. For instance, we've documented when our daughter could first track the movement of our face with her eyes and when she first picked her head up enough to turn it from one side to the other.

If you're looking for advice or lots of information, this is not the book for you. Instead, there is a companion to it entitled "The Baby Owner's Manual" that I would recommend. The "Maintenance Log" is primarily for keeping records, not for providing information.

First the disclaimer - I don't have any kids. However, I have bought this book, as well as its companion, for a few new parents. It might not be the "only baby book you'll ever need" but it's good as a present that's something a little different. New parents get plenty of carriers, onesies, and serious how-to-care-for-your-newborn books. This book is fun to read and still has useful information for the first-time parent. Everyone who I've given this to has loved it and has told me that they continue to refer to it months after they received it.

While this book looked like it would be useful, it fell short of that. Its hard to navigate to the section you want and its not user friendly when it comes to writing in it. Original concept though.

Compact and cute, with lots and lots of places to record just how often your child defecates and urinates and what color its eyes are. The novel hook is comparing your baby's record to a maintainence log on a new car. Office visits are "service records". Some handy boxed tips, a couple of graphics, but very little information. Probably better for the glove compartment than the diaper bag.

I got this as a baby shower gift and thought it was a cute and different journal from the beginning. I love that there are many open spaces to journal what happens each week in baby's first year, but there are also more "fill-in the blank" type sections about every 3 months that ask more directed status-update type questions. I wasn't sure I'd be able to keep up with journaling every week, but I did. I could write down 1 sentence at a time about a new skill, funny story, or family event that occured and keep a bulleted list each week. And once all the pages were filled I was a little sad that the first year had come to an end. I wish I would have continued journaling in this manner. It's so fun to look back at!

COLORFUL WITH LOTS OF SPACE TO WRITE IN. LIKE THAT IT IS NOT LIKE THE EVERYDAY BABY LOG. GREAT & UNIQUE WAY TO RECORD BABY'S FIRST YEAR.

This product is great. Not only does it make me laugh, but it is also convinient if you want to keep a record of when you breastfeed or poopies and pees, or also your baby's randomness or firsts. I use it as a little diary for my little girl. I would recommend this product to others.

My husband and I were expecting #1, and hub is a car geek. We were kidding about user manuals and how he could cope with new baby if one existed. He loved this book! It's definitely more father-friendly and funny. The gag does run a bit dry, but at least it's consistent throughout the book. We just purchased another for #2!

We send this book along with a shower gift and mark it for the dad. The dads never get anything for them so they actually read it and find it's not so hard. When something was wrong with either of our two kids, I would reach for the What to Expect Book and my husband would reach for this one. We come up with the same solution, only to his credit he'd get there faster because this book tells you what you need to know and that is it! A fabulous read for all dads!

I bought this book for my son-in-law before the birth of his first child four years ago. I just purchased a new copy for my niece's husband to include with his Chirstmas gift. They are expecting their first and my brother's first grandbaby in April! This book was a big hit!!
