More About the Author

Patricia opened her family child care business, Patty Cake Preschool, in 1989. In her words, she "left behind a career in advertising design to pursue one with a much greater reward - making a difference in the lvies of children."
From the beginning, Patricia recognized the importance of professionalism in child care. She obtained a City of Madison Certification and then completed her Child Development Associate (CDA). Over the past 17 years, Patricia has touched the lives of dozens of children and families, building a successful business. In 2004, she completed her Associate of Arts degree at Edgewood College and in 2005 released her book, "From Babysitter To Business Owner" (Redleaf Press). The book was on the Redleaf bestseller list in its first month out. In her book, Patricia provides a roadmap to professionalism for other providers and helps them to build successful, respectful partnerships with families. Next, she earned her National Accreditation from the National Family Child Care Association. She is a member of the Wisconsin Family Child Care Association, the Wisconsin Early Childhood Association, the National Association for the Education of Young Children and on the Communications Committee for the National Family Child Care Association.
Patricia is an advocate for the child care profession, presenting keynotes and workshops at state and national conferences across the United States to help providers create successful businesses and gain the respect and appreciation they deserve. She is also constantly working to raise the level of quality care that she provides for children. From building a full size tree in her room to inspire curiosity, to taking the children on countless fieldtrips to explore the world we live in first hand, to attending conferences and trainings to learn all she can on how to customize her lesson plans to include the special needs children in her care. Her school motto is: "Teaching the 3 C's: Courtesy, Curiosity & Creativity."
Patricia continues to improve the lives of children with her newest book, "Because I Loved You" (Goblin Fern Press). This memoir shares the story of love in an adoption process and has been endorsed by many national adoption agencies as the first book on adoption that truly reflects the love, respect and understanding of adoptions today.
Patricia's goals for the future are to become more involved with the state and national organizations by serving on their boards and becoming an advocate for child care workers on the political front. She is also in the process of publishing a book to help providers solve the problems they encounter while working with parents, and a children's book set in a family child care home that inspires creativity. She will continue to present lectures to providers and parents about both child care and adoption to raise awareness and respect in both fields. And above all, she plans to spend each day appreciating the opportunity to make a difference in the life of a child.
