This review is from: Babysitters on Acid (Audio CD)
"Babysitters on Acid," the very first album ever released by the Lunachicks, easily stands on its own because of its intense, unpolished sound quality. This 1990 CD marks a period when the band finally emerged from the grimy underbelly of the Grunge movement. With an extreme combination of distorted, statical guitars and hyperactive drumming, the nature of "Babysitters on Acid" is raw, disturbing and untamed. Without any overdubs or advanced audio effects, the 12 tracks may as well have been performed live on stage. Meanwhile, frontwoman Theo Kogan belts out cleverly written lyrics with furious speed, all the while shocking listeners with screeches and maniacal laughter. Obviously, the content of this CD is NOT for the easily offended!
There are quite a few favorite numbers I personally would like to point out. The record's title track is an insane, psychedelic scenario where a babysitter (drunk on beer and tripping on acid) roasts a crying toddler in the oven! "Makin It" is 1 minute & 30 seconds of explosive rock & roll rage, and it grossly involves plenty of bestiality! The CD's "Theme Song" is a demented and nauseating look into the mind of a cold-blooded killer; Kogan adapts the role of a murderer who takes pleasure in stabbing her victim with a butcher knife, washing in his blood and tearing out his beating heart! In "Born 2B Mild," the Lunachicks express how proud they are in being a rock & roll band while simultaneously denouncing the hypocritical preachers in the Catholic Church. The streetwise "Pin eye Woman 665" (a song about a filthy prostitute addicted to herion) includes an unbelievable drum solo by Becky! Perhaps the most imaginative and tuneful song on this album is "Octopussy," which I personally believe has drawn tremendous inspiration from a slew of science fiction flicks. In this particular track, Kogan plays a giant sea creature who lovingly caresses her partner with 8 writhing tentacles! Get this album while its still available; "Babysitters on Acid" is entertaining, comical AND obscene. It comes from one of the few bands that would NOT sell out on MTV.

Girls rule and the Lunachicks have no trouble getting that point across. If you are in to punk you will greatly enjoy this CD. BUY IT!!
