5.0 out of 5 stars Babysitting Sugarpaw highly recommended book!, March 22, 2011
This review is from: Babysitting SugarPaw (Paperback)
I highly recommend the Babysitting Sugarpaw book by VS Grenier.
Parents will love reading this to their child over and over again.
The illustrations by Keven Collier are vibrant, full of expression and so adorable.
Your child will definetly want to turn the page and see what Sugarpaw will do with the rule chart. Sugarpaw does not want a babysitter. He is determined to change the rules in his favor.....ha ha...your child will love this part.
Bonnie Whiskers is a lovable character and anyone who has babysat knows excatly what she's feeling. When she hears Sugarpaw cry out "Don't go" she worries and wonders if she will be able to babysit Sugarpaw.
You must add this to your childs reading list!

4.0 out of 5 stars Well done!, February 14, 2011
This review is from: Babysitting SugarPaw (Paperback)
What I like best about Babysitting Sugarpaw are the rules! We know right up front what Sugarpaw's home is like because of them--it's filled with love by two caring parents. We know what the expectations are and VS Grenier writes from those parental expectations. This isn't some cutsie, sugary story that rhymes poorly (it doesn't rhyme at all) and heavy-handedly 'teaches' children that babysitters are good and obeying rules is the right thing to do. All that comes organically from a good telling of the story which is heavy on the dialogue and well done at that. It's definitely worth purchasing whether your little one will be babysat for the first or fourth time. It's a great book for babysitters to read to their charges as well. - Biblio Reads Children's Book Reviews

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved the illustrations~!!, December 5, 2011
This review is from: Babysitting SugarPaw (Paperback)
Babysitting Sugarpaw by VS Grenier is an Action Adventure Children's Reader book.

Sugarpaws parents are going away and a babysitter is coming to look after him. He is not impressed and begins a plan to make things work for him.

After Bonnie Whiskers arrives to watch Sugarpaw, Mama Bear takes her to the kitchen to show her the rules that Sugarpaw has to follow. Sugarpaw has other plans and changes the rules so that he is able to do more things.

Bonnie tries her best to look after the unruly Sugarpaw; she tries to get him to play games, read a story and take a bath and Sugarpaw makes trouble for her whenever he is able. After Sugarpaw comes to realize his actions, he must tell everyone the truth about the reasons for his misbehaviour.

Again, another delightful story with a great message and wonderful depictions of the characters. The illustrations by Kevin Collier are charming and colourful and will delight your young person as they explore the pages.

I thought Sugarpaw to be a very mischievious little bear and was happy to see that he realizes his actions may hinder those around him. I loved the outcome of the story and how Sugarpaw confesses to the wrongs that happened while his parents were away. I also liked how the issues were resolved.

4.0 out of 5 stars Babysitting SugarPaw is a babysitting treasure that reminds us all of our youths., June 13, 2011
This review is from: Babysitting SugarPaw (Paperback)
Bonnie Whiskers is one of the best babysitters in town, but she has never babysat for the Bears before and their little SugarPaw. SugarPaw doesn't want a babysitter, and that's where the trouble begins.

When Bonnie Whiskers arrives, Mama Bear shows her the rules chart so she knows what to do. Bonnie feels better about her evening, thinking that she would have it easy, but SugarPaw had other plans. He decided to sneak downstairs and change the rules chart to all the things that he wanted to do. After the Bears leave, Bonnie was busy doing everything on the list, even though she was leery about some of the rules, not remembering the changed time for bed or the added bedtime snack.

Though the evening was a little chaotic for Bonnie Whiskers, SugarPaw had a great time, but he was beginning to feel guilty for changing the rules chart so Bonnie would get into trouble. What will happen to Bonnie Whiskers?

This is a cute story which will cause memories of childhood antics to surface for all adults. This is a perfect story for babysitters to understand the minds of children in a fun and brief way, and to teach them to always be one step ahead. Children will always try to outsmart the babysitter, no matter how good a child is or how old they are, they will always try.

Children will enjoy the big and bold illustrations and will laugh at the stunts that SugarPaw tries. Readers will also enjoy Bonnie Whiskers patience and dedication in taking care of SugarPaw, even though she knows he was trying to put one over on her. The author did a great job showing the two sides to every babysitting adventure and the story will delight the youngest of readers in this 32 page picture book, great for children 3 to 8 years of age.

5.0 out of 5 stars Humorous Story About What Not to Do When the Babysitter Comes, June 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Babysitting SugarPaw (Paperback)
Sugarpaw does not want a babysitter. He bitterly complains about having one. Then, after his parents leave, Sugarpaw decides to become a babysitter's worst nightmare. It's utter chaos and mayhem. Fortunately, Sugarpaw realizes that the nice babysitter is going to get in a lot of trouble for the messes he's made. He has a change of heart and learns that it's better to be honest and follow the rules.

Babysitting Sugarpaw is a very good book to share with kids when it's time to bring over the babysitter. It's a useful tool to use when talking about following the rules. The illustrations are cute and do a nice job in showing the expressions of the various characters. Parents can easily point out how upset the babysitter is when Sugarpaw is not following the rules.

I would recommend this book to kids ages 4-8. I think it will help make the babysitting experience more enjoyable for everyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good book for parents and children to read together, May 2, 2011
This review is from: Babysitting SugarPaw (Paperback)
Babysitting SugarPaw is a wonderful read aloud story for parents to share with their young children--especially if they will be leaving their children with babysitters. The story lends itself to great discussions about good and bad behaviors and the effects those behaviors can have on others.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book for introudcing babysitters, September 10, 2009
This review is from: Babysitting SugarPaw (Paperback)
I love kid books, I'm not ashamed to admit it. From If You Give a Mouse a Cookie or The Little Engine that Could there's nothing like a touching story to spark the imagination.

Recently I was given "Babysitting SugarPaw" to review and I was happily surprised with he cute and fun story. As someone who has had to babysit I could relate to poor Bonnie Whiskes' plight as she deals with a very mischievous SugarPaw. A fun and easy read, Babysitting SugarPaw is a great introduction to the world of baby sitters. I also loved the lesson that your actions have consequences on others (not just yourself).

Author VS Grenier shows her understanding of a child's mind and the bright, playful illustrations by Kevin Collier make this book enjoyable. I would have liked a bit of a longer ending, which seemed a bit abrupt, but other than that, the book is fantastic! Parents will love the subtle lessons about dealing with babysitters and kids will love the mischievous antics of SugarPaw. Check out Babysitting SugarPaw for yourself!

5.0 out of 5 stars A first-time babysitter adventure, August 6, 2009
This review is from: Babysitting SugarPaw (Paperback)
Bonnie Whiskers happily arrives at her first babysitting job and becomes quite nervous upon hearing SugarPaw's protests. In her best attempt not to be thwarted by SugarPaw's negativity of being babysat, Bonnie Whiskers listens intently as Mama Bear explains the rules chart. Relieved her task at hand appears simpler than she thought Bonnie Whiskers relaxes and attempts to engage SugarPaw. Unbeknownst to all involved, SugarPaw tampered with the rules chart and chaos ensues. What can Bonnie Whiskers do to get SugarPaw under control without causing more harm?

Along with the colorful illustrations of Kevin Scott Collier, VS Grenier brings to life a first-time babysitter's apprehension and mixes in the high jinxes of SugarPaw into a delightful story of acceptance and understanding. Your personal copy of Babysitting SugarPaw will surely become worn out from reading it many times over.

4.0 out of 5 stars A baby, a babysitter, and an enchanting story, July 25, 2009
This review is from: Babysitting SugarPaw (Paperback)
Mama Bear and Papa Bear have hired a babysitter for their baby, SugarPaw, while they go out for the evening. SugarPaw, like many children, doesn't think he needs a babysitter. But Papa Bear ignores his pleas and insists that Bonnie Whiskers is the best babysitter in town.

A very unhappy SugarPaw decides he'll change the rules chart that shows how late he can watch TV, what his bedtime is, and things like that. He doesn't know that Bonnie Whiskers has already seen the chart.

After his parents leave, SugarPaw gets into one kind of mischief after another, hoping, I think, that Bonnie Whiskers will never want to baby sit him again. Nope, I'm not telling you what he does. Let's just say that he's every babysitter's nightmare. Even the naughtiest of children, including SugarPaw, can have a change of heart, however. Kevin Scott Collier's illustrations add the perfect touch to a delightful story.

A neat twist at the end made me smile. Combine an unhappy little bear and a clever babysitter and you end up with a fun read. Babysitters will be nodding at SugarPaw's antics, perhaps recognizing him in some of the children they've sat with. And young readers will giggle as SugarPaw does his mischief. Perhaps they'll also think twice about being a troublemaker when they have a babysitter, especially if she's a good one like Bonnie Whiskers.

Ms. Grenier's sense of humor sparkles in this picture book. I recommend the book for parents, children, and everyone who enjoys a good laugh and a little bear with a big heart.
