5.0 out of 5 stars I'd give it 10 stars if I could!!
Hooray for you for finding this gem video in a sea of commercialism. My kids and I are a big fan of many of the famous groups, but this little video is definitely the bomb-diggity! I'm so glad that I decided to try this video because it turned out to be exactly what I hoped it would be and even better, my kids LOVE it!!! It's simple and very engaging. My kids love...

1.0 out of 5 stars A disappointment!
I ordered this video for my daughter, age 2, after she showed an interest in the alphabet and numbers. The fact that this was a Parent's Choice led me to believe that it would be the perfect educational video. Was I wrong! The 2 songs that deal with the ABC's go by so fast that my daughter couldn't keep up. Don't even expect that this video will help you child learn...

I'm so glad that I decided to try this video because it turned out to be exactly what I hoped it would be and even better, my kids LOVE it!!! It's simple and very engaging. My kids love watching it again and again. They participate in the song and dance activities as if they are part of the group of kids in the video. The alphabet, color, numbers, and shapes are all covered in a totally engaging format. This video will get your kids singing and dancing, and more importantly, LISTENING to the instructions of what to do when as they follow the lead of the little kids on the video. For instance, (kids are wearing different colored shirts) "Yellow stand up and walk around red, blue stand up and hop on one foot..." So not only does your child learn colors (numbers, shapes, or the alphabet), they learn to listen to directions, and then are given the opportunity to apply their knowledge to participate in coordinated activites.

The 2 songs that deal with the ABC's go by so fast that my daughter couldn't keep up. Don't even expect that this video will help you child learn numbers. The first counting song only repeated "1-2-3" over and over and the second just showed a little girl randomly counting to 5, 6, 7, and 8. The songs didn't even keep my daughters interest. All the video contains are songs that are boring to a 2 year old and seem like they would be trivial to a 5 year old.

5.0 out of 5 stars Our baby loves it., December 4, 2005
I got this ages ago for our older son when he was a toddler, but I don't remember him ever getting that into it. I tried showing it to our one year old recently and he absolutely loves it. I think he'd watch it all day if I let him. The video has kind of a dated look about it. It shows different kids acting out songs about the alphabet or about trying to get to sleep, etc. The music is obviously all written by the same guy and the songs all have a similiar sound. My husband jokes that the music sounds like the theme song from "Three's Company", which it kind of does. In any case, our little guy loves it and I don't mind him watching it, because it is strangely soothing. No saccharin (think Barney) type kids, nothing harsh or overly commercial. It's just a nice little kids video

5.0 out of 5 stars Baby Songs is my daughter's favorite!, August 26, 2005

My two year old is absolutely obsessed with Baby Songs. If I would allow it, I think she would watch it all day long. She loves the music, has learned her alphabet and colors from the songs, and dances all over the room when it's on. Best part... mom gets a moment of peace when necessary, and I don't feel guilty because she is watching something very educational. Highly recommended! Hap Palmer is a genius.

5.0 out of 5 stars Catchy, interactive, and fun, July 19, 2001

My just-turned-two year old daughter and I love this video. We also own three other Baby Songs Videos--the original, "Baby Animals," and "Baby's Busy Day"--and we enjoy this one more than any except possibly "Baby's Busy Day." When "Tap Your Sticks" plays, my daughter runs around to find her plastic spoons and do what the kids do--e.g., tap them on the floor, in the air, etc. She always wants to hear "Tap Your Sticks" more than once. I especially like this song plus the jazzy "Betty Beep" (my favorite Hap Palmer song), "Jig Along Shapes," and "We're On Our Way." The tunes are catchy, the lyrics are creative, and the kids are natural. All in all, "Baby Songs ABC, 123, Colors and Shapes" is a great buy.

This is the first BabySongs video we have seen. We got it at the library and I am frantically purchasing it now (it had to be returned...tragedy!). My 19 month old daughter loves this tape passionately. "Tap Your Sticks" is her favorite, with two big serving spoons as her sticks. She asks for this video as "Shapes?"...the cheesy song where the kids are dressed in giant shape costume is another favorite. That particular song seems especially low budget, but she can tell you all the shapes now. I like how the kids in this video are real kids...not Disneyfied hams!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of Hap Palmer's best, March 10, 2002

This review is from: "Babysongs - ABC, 123, Colors & Shapes" [VHS] (VHS Tape)
We own 4 Baby Songs videos (Baby Songs, More Baby Songs, Animals, and ABC/123) and this is one of the best. It has been one of my 19th months old's favorite! The songs are catchy and interactive and we integrate some of the lyrics in everyday situations (Circle, circle, where can you be....) I think that anyone who has negative opinions of this video has a child who is either not ready for it or is a slow learner. We have never relied on this video to teach the alphabet or numbers and parents are negligent in their teaching if they rely on this instead of one on one instruction. My son already knew the alphabet, numbers 1-10, shapes, and colors when he was 13/14 months old. He did learn his color combinations from this video (ex. blue and yellow make green) and the video helps reinforce concepts...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, May 14, 2005
My dad got this video for my daughter when she was 2 years old, and I looked at it and thought it would be too basic for her and wouldn't hold her interest since she already knew her numbers, alphabet, shapes and colors, but she surprised me! She absolutely loved it! I have to buy the DVD now because she destroyed the VHS. She loves the songs...especially the alphabet rag and the stick song. She hasn't seen the video in a few months, and she still sings the songs. It is a little corny, but my daughter loves the songs, and she likes watching the other kids. I think it is a great tool to help reinforce these basic concepts, and it is well designed and fun. My daughter dances and sings with all the songs. It actually keeps her active instead of allowing her to "veg" in front of the tv. I bought her some bean bags so she can dance with the other kids to Bean Bag Alphabet Rag and she uses spoons or chopsticks to do the stick song. I am going to be buying the DVD today because she keeps asking to watch it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple but apparently very entertaining!, December 31, 2004
My mom got this for my 21 month old daughter and this is by far one of her favorites. It definitly is from the eighties, judging by the kids' clothes but she doesn't seem to care how corny the kids look. For some reason, my daughter has always been more interested in videos with the "real" kids rather than cartoons or puppets and this one features lots of little kids, many interacting with the families and friends.

The songs are very catching and mostly mellow so it's a good dvd to put in before bath and bed. Beanbag Alphabet Rag had my daughter up and mimicing the kids pointing out body parts. Betty Boop will quite possibly make an adult's ears bleed but she seems transfixed throughout it.

Yes, the people in this dvd are very goofy and my husband and I just laugh at them but it is by far a favorite of Brynn's!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Baby Songs Winner, May 17, 2006
By
ditty (Westwood, New Jersey) - See all my reviews
We love baby songs at our house. I have a three year old and a one year old and Hap Palmer's songs never fail to put a smile on their faces. I was first introduced to Baby Songs as a teenage babysitter in the early 90's. The toddler for which I babysat had 2 Baby Songs videos which he loved to watch. I found that songs like Today I Took My Diapers Off and Sitting In My Highchair would be running through my head for days. Years later, after having a child of my own, I was delighted to discover that many of those same catchy tunes that I remembered from my babysitting days had been compiled in DVD format. We started by renting at the library and then purchased our own copies of Original Baby Songs, Baby's Busy Day, Baby Songs Animals, as well as this ABC video. I prefer Original Baby Songs and Baby's Busy Day to the other two we own, but in all fairness, my kids seem to adore all four equally. Yes, the songs are a bit corny and the hairstyles and clothes are a bit outdated (which I find endearing in a nostalgic sort of way), but your baby, toddler, or pre-schooler is sure to adore it. Isn't that what really matters? This particular DVD features songs that are a bit more educational in that they focus on shapes, numbers, colors, and ABC's. Don't expect this video to flawlessly educate your child in theses areas, eliminating the need for pre-school. I'm sure they do learn something from the songs because kids are like sponges and they are busy learning from all the different things they are exposed to during the course of a day. These songs are no exception. This DVD is likely to delight a toddler or preschooler who is enjoying an increasing awareness of numbers, letters, colors, and shapes as they encounter these things in the world around them. As with the other Baby Songs DVDs we own, this one is good, wholesome fun.
